Oklahoma infielder Michael Snyder talks to media Feb. 22, 2024.
Transcript
00:00 >> Oklahoma, it was pretty straightforward process,
00:04 entering the transfer portal, talking with the coaches,
00:08 Bo, Skip, Russ, Reggie, Butler.
00:10 It's all about finding a good fit for me as a person.
00:15 I think just going to a place that has a really good culture, really good staff,
00:19 that's built on tradition and winning, that's really important for anybody,
00:23 any ball player.
00:24 So finding a good place that's about culture and winning, so
00:27 that was a very easy thing for me.
00:28 >> What about, I guess, just been your immediate takeaway,
00:31 not even immediate, you're right, but just with Jackson and John, Kendall,
00:36 they're kind of the veteran group of this.
00:38 Jackson talked about the veteran culture this year, last year, but
00:42 how have you seen those guys kind of be leaders this year?
00:45 >> Yeah, as a fifth year guy going to a place that has a lot of veteran
00:49 roommates, it's really cool to see one.
00:51 They know how to handle business and how to get guys going,
00:55 get the younger guys going, and keeping the culture together, and
00:58 keeping everybody accountable, and having fun while doing it.
01:01 I think it's really cool to see that these other guys are just doing what they do.
01:04 I don't think there's anything special about it in terms of doing anything crazy.
01:08 It's just like they're doing what they should do in a great way.
01:12 I think it's really cool to see.
01:13 >> You look pretty comfortable up there this past week.
01:15 >> Yeah, it's a good spot.
01:15 >> Is that something that just come natural, or what's your experience over there?
01:20 >> Sure, I'd say here we practice a lot on defense and taking ground balls and
01:24 a lot of reps, and have a great infield coach Russ,
01:28 who we're doing a bunch of different drills and ground ball takes every day.
01:32 So it's just about putting one foot in front of the other and
01:34 taking ground balls every day.
01:36 >> Where's this infield stack up defensively on ones you've played on,
01:39 with the two Jacksons, Rocco first or McKenzie at first?
01:42 Just seems like you guys, not a lot of weak spots on the defensive end here.
01:47 >> Yeah, we just come to the field every day ready to work, ready to get better.
01:51 And we've got some young guys, Rocco, Jackson Willits,
01:55 two really good young guys, really fun to watch.
01:58 I think it just comes down to the work that we put in every day and
02:01 trying to get better.
02:02 That's about it.
02:04 >> A lot of games on turf in Washington, does it feel turfy?
02:06 >> All turf.
02:06 >> It's turf we've been serious to.
02:08 >> Yeah, turf is nothing too unfamiliar.
02:10 >> Yeah.
02:11 >> Does it feel good to get a couple big swings here early in the season,
02:16 just kind of get the minor in going forward?
02:18 >> I'd say for anybody, it's really cool to have a couple good swings,
02:21 get the vibes going, get the dugout going.
02:23 >> Sure.
02:24 >> It's very contagious when you hit, you hit, and
02:26 it's contagious for everybody in the lineup.
02:28 So I think it's a really just a fun part of the process thing.
02:32 >> [INAUDIBLE]
02:42 >> Sure, I think the staff here really harps on simplicity and
02:46 just doing things that matter, not getting too involved with these other things that
02:51 kind of take away from what hitting actually is, like let's simplify it.
02:55 Let's go to work and just continue to do the things that work for you.
03:00 But the main thing is just keeping it simple.
03:02 >> I'm just looking forward to getting out here, home game for the first time,
03:05 playing for the home fans.
03:06 >> Super stoked, I think we're all very stoked.
03:08 Players, coaches, we're all super happy, excited to be here and
03:12 be in front of a big crowd at home, so it'll be a good time.
