00:05 >> All right, Coach, congratulations on the sweep.
00:07 >> Yeah.
00:08 >> Talk me through the momentum swing in that first inning.
00:10 >> Yeah. >> To have to double play and
00:11 then put five on.
00:12 >> That was, in my opinion, you can't really win a game in the first, but
00:17 you can definitely lose a game in the first.
00:19 And bases loaded, nobody out.
00:24 And he was teeter-tottering.
00:27 I think they got a walk, an air, five roadie, and then another walk.
00:33 So kind of exactly the way we didn't wanna start the game.
00:37 When you win two ball games, you wanna see how your team's gonna react when they
00:40 come out on Sunday and we go walk, air, walk.
00:42 That was, for me, was like, okay, let's see where this group is.
00:46 And then Zach did a really good job of getting the strikeout and
00:49 getting the double play.
00:51 And then it's amazing how offense and defense leads to,
00:58 I mean, I'm sorry, pitching and defense leads to good offense.
01:00 Cuz next thing you know, one swing and a bat, you have a one-nothing lead when
01:04 the opponent thinks after the first three hitters, we're gonna score a couple runs.
01:07 So that momentum was big in the first inning to be able to jump out on
01:12 early lead after them not scoring anything in the top of the first,
01:15 I thought was huge in terms of momentum.
01:18 And then just in terms of the lineup, just, there's different guys all the time.
01:23 Sammy, two for three, Carson hit a big home run, Chad had a really good game.
01:28 So it's nice, Tony didn't have the game that he wanted to, except for
01:31 a really, really good at bat with a guy on second base and hit it really good.
01:35 I thought he hit it really hard into the wind.
01:37 Got the guy over to third with one out.
01:39 So probably his best step out of the day.
01:40 But other than that, when he's maybe not having the best day offensively,
01:44 you have people around him to pick it up, and that's what a great offense does.
01:47 >> Like beyond just the offense in the first inning too,
01:49 that helped Zach settle into the game.
01:51 He looked much better in the second and fourth.
01:53 >> Yeah, I think the big thing with him is belief and then tempo.
01:57 I think when you have really good tempo, you don't think as much.
02:01 And I think when you have poor tempo, I think you're thinking too much.
02:04 And so with him, it's hey, let's not think, let's trust and pitch with tempo.
02:08 So if you pitch with tempo, you don't have a lot of time to think.
02:12 And I think that's when he's at his best.
02:14 >> Coach, Ethan Lowe with TC 360.
02:17 What does it mean with five games this week to put the game away early and
02:22 save some arms?
02:23 >> Yeah, good question, Ethan.
02:24 I mean, and then have a guy that hadn't pitched this weekend, and
02:27 Moziello, who's a veteran guy, be able to get those three out and
02:31 save two extra innings of arms where Louis Rodriguez didn't throw.
02:36 And you have a bunch of guys down that haven't thrown on the weekend.
02:39 But you have five games in six days.
02:41 So their time is gonna come.
02:44 But to limit today to only have to play seven, I think, was crucial in terms of.
02:49 Now you have Mo with, I probably only threw about 15 pitches.
02:52 He'll be ready to go for the midweek.
02:54 Ben only having to use him once.
02:56 And then, like I said, Louis and Hoover and Storm and a bunch of guys down there
03:02 that are looking forward to getting their first run this season.
03:05 Looking forward to it.
03:05 It's gonna happen Tuesday and Wednesday for sure.
03:09 >> Sammy Myers earned a little bit more consistent playing time at this point.
03:12 >> Yeah, I mean, I think Sammy's doing exactly what we thought Sammy was gonna
03:15 do.
03:15 Really, really good at bats and played.
03:19 He hasn't played right field a whole lot and
03:22 handled himself out there really well.
03:24 So consistent at bats.
03:26 When you're consistent in the batter's box and
03:28 you know what you're gonna get from somebody, you're gonna get more at bats.
03:31 You're gonna get more opportunities.
03:33 I thought Jack, even though he didn't have offensively in terms of the numbers,
03:37 Jack hit only two for three.
03:40 And his one fly out was pretty dang good pitch too.
03:42 So you gotta try and find a way to get him in the lineup.
03:45 So that's a good thing to have and that's our job is, we never write the lineup.
03:51 It's always the players who end up writing the lineup.
03:53 And so there's a lot of guys pushing for a lot more playing time and
03:55 that's for dang sure.
03:57 >> You have the top ten teams that are out there and
04:02 I know it's just about you guys, but you're the only undefeated team in there.
04:05 >> No, Bill. >> To this point.
04:07 What does that mean for your program and such two weekends into it?
04:11 >> Well, I think what it tells you is that the guys, what they prepared for and
04:16 coming into an early season slate that wasn't easy, they were ready to answer
04:20 the bell and it tells me that you have a bunch of guys that know how to win and
04:25 play together and play for each other.
04:27 And I think that's the biggest thing for me coming off of this weekend is
04:32 the fact that you should be in a nut shell.
04:35 It's pretty awesome in terms of the guys that aren't playing,
04:40 being with the guys that are and then vice versa and
04:42 the interaction between it is really good and it's really positive.
04:45 And there's no panic, there's just belief in each other.
04:50 And so it's really fun and is it always gonna be that way?
04:52 We're gonna hit our speed bumps 100%.
04:54 But the thing that I think they're doing is they're galvanizing,
04:57 they're understanding what it does look like to play really good baseball.
05:00 And so when the tough stretches do come, cuz they will,
05:04 you can kinda resort back and think back to what it felt like when we were playing
05:08 good baseball and hopefully we stay out of those valleys and stay even keel.
05:12 And cuz right now I'm starting to think about Washington State and
05:17 I know they're not, but that's fine.
05:19 They have a good day off tomorrow and then five games out of six days and
05:24 we're gonna have to have our A game for sure with this West Coast swing,
05:27 what we've got coming with Washington State, Arizona, ASU and USC.
05:30 So pretty fun.
05:33 >> I may have missed on it, you mentioned it last night, but
05:35 no Peyton Tole in the lineup today.
05:37 Was the reasoning that for kind of in preparation of this week's games?
05:41 >> A little bit, a little bit.
05:42 He's out of sorts just a little bit timing wise.
05:44 And Jack, Jack took some great at bats.
05:47 And so totally he's a huge piece of what we're gonna do.
05:50 We hit in the middle of order, he starts on Friday night.
05:53 That's who he is and that's who we think he is and we know he is.
05:55 And so for us it was more about what Jack has done,
05:58 not so much about what Peyton hasn't done.
06:01 And so in a, like we're talking about in this little stretch,
06:05 with him having to also pitch, it was a good time for
06:08 him to be able to get off his feet a little bit.
06:10 And we'll see him back in the line of ASAP and he'll be rocking and
06:16 rolling again.
06:17 >> Hampton's going Tuesday, presuming, you're right, you have-
06:20 >> You're gonna ask me who's gonna go
06:21 Wednesday? >> Yeah, well, just a couple names.
06:22 >> I don't know.
06:23 We'll try and win the game on Tuesday and figure out who's available on Wednesday.
06:27 >> I've got a guess, but I'm not gonna say that loud.
06:29 You can guess all you want cuz you probably were wrong.
06:31 >> [LAUGH] >> Cuz I don't know.
06:34 >> There you go.
06:35 >> Thanks, Coach.
