00:03 Welcome to Mojo Plays and today we have Arisen to the challenge set forth by Dragon's Dogma 2 and
00:13 everything we need to know heading into the sequel. "Welcome, Arisen."

00:26 Jumping in. "From this moment forth,
00:33 thou art Arisen."
00:36 The original Dragon's Dogma released back in 2012 and was not an immediate runaway success.
00:42 Even with the enhanced version Dark Arisen a couple years later,
00:46 the series started as a slow burn and developed enough of a cult following in the years since that Capcom
00:53 finally greenlit a sequel. However, for those who missed out on the original game,
00:57 Dragon's Dogma 2 takes place in an alternate reality,
01:00 meaning newcomers won't end up being completely lost jumping into the sequel.
01:05 The story will follow a similar setup to the original in which a dragon steals the player's heart and they become
01:11 Arisen and are now destined to confront the dragon to prevent a world-ending disaster.
01:15 It will also feature a much deeper political aspect than the original game with the many warring kingdoms
01:22 the Arisen will encounter.
01:24 "Pitiable Arisen,
01:26 [Dragon Roars]
01:28 why dost thou fight?"
01:30 Tools of Creation. Like any good RPG worth its salt,
01:34 Dragon's Dogma 2 will feature a robust character creator. Players will be able to select from multiple races,
01:40 including Beastran for the first time in the series, as the original game struggled to properly render all their fur without
01:47 completely crashing. With a myriad of sliders to fully customize your character,
01:52 Capcom is giving players the tools to make their adventure their own while also affording this opportunity to their main pawn companion who is also
02:00 completely customizable. For those who aren't looking to spend hours in the options menu, Dragon's Dogma 2 also features a randomizer,
02:07 featuring hundreds of pre-scanned real human faces that will auto-generate
02:13 characters and pawns for players to choose from, so they can get adventuring as quickly as possible.
02:17 Vocation, vocation, vocation.
02:21 [Dragon Roars]
02:23 [Fighting]
02:25 [Dragon Roars]
02:27 [Fighting]
02:28 Whereas in other similar RPGs, players must choose a class and are locked into this play style for the entire duration of their adventure,
02:35 Dragon's Dogma 2 allows for far more freedom of customization than your typical RPG.
02:41 While at the start of the game, players can only choose from four classes, the fighter, the mage, the thief, and the archer,
02:48 they are able to unlock additional classes by completing certain quests within the world, such as warrior and sorcerer.
02:55 These vocations can be further upgraded and even combined to create new hybrid vocations,
03:01 one of which, the Wayfarer, allows players access to nearly every weapon class in the game. Capcom has also
03:08 extensively balanced these many vocations,
03:10 so one is not overly powerful compared to another, and
03:14 players are also not locked into one class throughout their playthrough and can easily switch back and forth at any time.
03:20 I would gladly pass all the wisdom I possess into your hands.
03:25 [Dragon Roars]
03:27 Pawnin' Around.
03:29 Welcome, Arisen.
03:31 [Dragon Roars]
03:33 We pawns have long awaited your arrival.
03:35 One of the aspects of the original Dragon's Dogma that made it stand out from other fantasy RPGs was its pawn system, in which players can
03:43 bring along companion NPCs during their adventure and even recruit other players as pawns from around the world.
03:49 With Dragon's Dogma 2, this system has become even more important.
03:54 Not only will players be able to create their own main pawn to tag along,
03:57 but the pawns they can recruit from other players will be able to lead them to quests their player
04:02 completed in their game that might have gone otherwise undiscovered.
04:06 The team has gone to extreme lengths to make sure the pawns feel like real characters within the world,
04:11 even going so far as to record extra dialogue to make sure they don't simply repeat the same lines ad nauseum and
04:17 customize them with their own vocations.
04:20 Climb on, don't sit here and worry.
04:22 [Dragon Roars]
04:24 [Dragon Roars]
04:26 Fantasy Immersion.
04:28 Arisen.
04:30 [Dragon Roars]
04:32 You'd only believe in your own destiny, Arisen.
04:36 These days, there is a lot of debate around video game UIs and how much the game leads players along,
04:42 as well as the multitude of markers dotted around the map for players to follow.
04:46 Dragon's Dogma 2 is taking great strides to make the player feel like they're part of the world,
04:51 and in doing so, won't feature what is considered traditional quest markers.
04:56 Instead, along with pawns leading you to quests and points of interest,
05:00 NPCs will approach the player during their travels and offer them activities and missions
05:05 with only vague instructions to lead them to their destinations.
05:08 The goal is to completely immerse the player in the world of Dragon's Dogma,
05:12 and not constantly hold their hand from one quest to another.
05:16 You do not remember? Then have you forgotten that you protected me from the dragon's flame?
05:21 Touring the Countryside.
05:23 Reportedly, the map of Dragon's Dogma 2 will be four times larger than the original,
05:28 and game director Hidetaki Utsuno wants players to feel that scale.
05:33 Therefore, instead of players simply being able to quickly traverse the world,
05:37 there will be numerous modes of travel available to them.
05:40 These include the usual "on foot", which offers its own set of perils,
05:44 as the world is especially dangerous off the beaten path.
05:47 But players can also choose to travel by the more reliable ox cart,
05:51 which also is not safe from the threat of attack.
05:54 While not a main mode of exploration, fast travel is an option,
05:58 although it will cost a fairy stone each time, and these are rare and often expensive.
06:04 Players may also risk missing out on many of the randomized encounters
06:08 and missions they could potentially encounter by traversing the world as intended.
06:12 A game of dragons.
06:14 "Went to his orb was certain that her son would take his father's place."
06:18 "Word reached the castle that the Arisen had been found."
06:23 The gameplay isn't the only thing gaining an update in the sequel.
06:27 The story of the Arisen awakening in Vermoond will be one filled with political alliances
06:31 and warring kingdoms as they attempt to recover their heart from the dragon.
06:35 Pawns will also play a larger role in the overall narrative,
06:38 as the pawns themselves are looked down upon as second class citizens,
06:42 as are any who travel with them.
06:44 This immediately puts a mark on the Arisen, as they are one of the few able to actually summon them.
06:49 The theme of rebirth is also present in the world itself,
06:53 as game director Hidetaki Itsuno stated that even though this game takes place in an alternate realm to the first one,
06:59 fans of the original will still find many nods and references to that game,
07:03 as well as possibly familiar locations.
07:05 "What is your purpose here?"
07:08 Not so side quests.
07:11 Within the world of Vermoond, even something as simple as a fetch quest
07:15 could spiral into a nail-biting battle between life and death.
07:18 Because the game doesn't feature traditional quest markers,
07:21 players will be given a general area to travel to,
07:24 and will need to forge their own path to the destination.
07:27 During this time, any number of randomized and organic things can occur.
07:32 The bridge to the goal could have been damaged and a new path must be discovered,
07:36 or a mini-boss could mercilessly hunt the player and company down until the beast is finally slain.
07:42 Some encounters, such as the mysterious Sphinx and her riddles,
07:45 are hidden away within the world and can be completely missed by players not searching off the beaten path.
07:51 Climb to victory.
07:52 "What could possibly impel a being of such size to motion?"
07:57 Another aspect that sets the Dragon's Dogma series apart from its contemporaries is the game's combat.
08:03 Namely, the ability to scale your larger opponents a la Shadow of the Colossus.
08:08 This too has been overhauled for the sequel,
08:11 with players not only being able to climb their larger foes,
08:15 but also make use of environmental hazards to help bring them down for additional damage.
08:19 Some enemies also have specific weak points that are the only way to damage them,
08:24 and these specific areas need to be targeted before the fight can truly get underway.
08:28 Some encounters, such as the Talos, are multi-stage encounters
08:32 which will lead the players along multiple paths to finally fell their foe.
08:36 Few games offer this level of scale during battles, let alone this realistically.
08:40 In a genre well known for their over-the-top enemy encounters.
08:44 "Let us attack with the full sum of our strength!"
08:47 "We must try to delay its course by any means!"
08:51 Strategized to survive.
09:00 "Show me the path to our worst war."
09:06 The original Dragon's Dogma was notorious for its difficulty,
09:10 and not much has changed in the sequel.
09:13 While there will of course be various difficulty options available for players of all skill levels,
09:17 the game seeks to create a fully immersive experience,
09:20 and therefore won't be mindlessly guiding the player along on their journey.
09:24 The world of Dragon's Dogma 2 is dangerous,
09:27 and likewise, players will need to maintain more than just their health bar.
09:31 Should the player take damage during combat,
09:34 a chunk of their health will be permanently deleted,
09:37 and can only be fully replenished by resting at a campfire or an inn.
09:41 Capcom has also fine-tuned the game's combat,
09:44 so that players won't be able to spam their most powerful attacks,
09:47 and will need to carefully plan each encounter,
09:49 and choose their vocations wisely,
09:51 while also making smart use of their pawns to survive to the next encounter.
09:55 "Strike hard enough, and we might not have to do this twice."
