00:00 >> Rogue off my mouth.
00:01 >> Okay.
00:02 [BLANK_AUDIO]
00:03 Do you have a nothing on the back?
00:05 >> No, I mean, it's gonna be one of those, we're gonna get a CT scan on him,
00:10 make sure there's nothing structurally wrong in terms of where he,
00:14 I mean, he got hit right in the temple, which is scary to begin with.
00:18 But we're gonna get a CT scan on him.
00:21 He's moving around his normal self, but we're gonna pay close attention to him and
00:26 we'll see where that goes from there, but yeah, that's always scary.
00:30 >> This weekend, three and now you're at a program best 12-0.
00:34 What does it say about this team that you've gotten at the East Coast?
00:37 >> Well, I think it says a lot.
00:38 They find ways to win and we gotta pitch better.
00:45 But I think the main thing is,
00:46 the pitching is held up against really good ball clubs.
00:50 We've had some bad stretches, but the offense is the name of the game right now.
00:55 I mean, Coach Bruce and Coach DeLara, Coach Scout, I mean,
00:59 you can't say enough about having the guys prepared in a way where they just,
01:05 the next guy, it doesn't matter who it is, and they're ready to do it.
01:08 Take it really good at bats, he's in the middle of the field.
01:11 So I can't say enough about Coach Bruce and
01:16 what he's done to the mentality of our offense at TCU.
01:19 >> [INAUDIBLE]
01:21 >> Yeah.
01:22 >> [INAUDIBLE]
01:29 >> Well, I think the first thing was is
01:31 Storm Heroes hadn't thrown in a game since May 2nd, or May 7th of 2022.
01:36 So that was great to see him back out there.
01:38 Colt Taylor hadn't pitched in a TCU uniform yet.
01:41 I thought his inning was as big of an inning as any inning in terms of what he
01:44 did, I thought he executed and threw the ball well.
01:47 And Zach closed it down.
01:49 But yeah, Vicks, we wanted to make sure that, there's a lot that goes into it for
01:53 a young kid that goes through Tommy John in high school.
01:56 And the main thing is, can we get him into a spot where we feel
02:01 is a good spot for him to start?
02:03 And today was the day, and I mean, it was a 7-5 ball game.
02:08 And all he did is he filled up the strike zone.
02:12 And it was really good to see because we're gonna need him as the season goes on.
02:18 And it's a good confidence boost for him to know that, hey, my stuff and
02:23 what I do is plenty good enough at this level.
02:27 And he really only did it with one pitch.
02:28 He threw a couple good sliders, but really, he dominated with one pitch.
02:32 And I thought my big two takeaways watching the pitch was in the first inning,
02:36 he fell behind the guy, and I saw him take a huge deep breath.
02:39 And then in his third inning, I saw him fall behind the guy 2-1, and
02:43 I saw him take a huge big breath.
02:44 Which to me, that tells me that he was in control of himself.
02:48 He realized it, he understood it, took a breath, got focused back in and
02:52 did a phenomenal job.
02:53 >> It makes me think a true freshman, I just kinda wanna ask,
02:56 how do you guys feed the freshmen that you get?
02:59 >> Well, I mean, it starts with Coach Dakin in terms of,
03:04 the big thing is getting these guys in in July for our summer school.
03:08 So that they can have an understanding prior to the fall semester starting,
03:13 what our culture is, what our program's about.
03:15 They get to know each other, they get familiar with PCU, and
03:18 they get familiar with what's expected of them.
03:21 And a lot of that happens in the weight room with Coach Dakin over the summer.
03:25 There's a lot of discipline instilled with him.
03:27 And then really from that point forward, it's just a matter of,
03:31 it's just daily work.
03:33 Daily work every single day and giving them opportunities to have success.
03:37 And then it comes down to the player.
03:40 But it was really good to be able to see Micah Kendrick get in there for
03:43 the first time and play third base.
03:45 To see Zach Wattis get in there for his first time.
03:47 But I know it didn't go as perfectly as planned, but
03:50 it's their first time in the college game.
03:52 And I thought it was awesome to see those guys.
03:54 And then Ryder Robinson, I thought, played a really, really good shortstop.
03:58 Just giving Anthony a day off and getting his legs back underneath him.
04:02 It was great to be able to see Ryder do a good job playing shortstop.
04:05 >> Sammy Myers in the center field today too.
04:08 >> Yeah. >> Getting some of the day off as well.
04:10 >> Yeah, I mean, you're gonna get quality of bouts.
04:14 You're gonna get quality of bouts.
04:15 He's hitting in the two hole for a reason,
04:18 cuz you know what you're gonna get there, especially after a shot.
04:22 At the top of the order, and then you got Sammy.
04:24 You got some ability to do a lot of different things with him.
04:27 So he just continues to do what we know he's, I mean,
04:31 he's playing for a really good organization in the summer, the Texas 12.
04:35 And Coach DeLara is saying his praises for a long time.
04:41 But he's never gonna wow you with maybe when you watch him take BP or do whatever.
04:45 But just wait till the game starts.
04:48 And Coach DeLara, like he is most every time,
04:51 is right on the money with his evaluation.
04:52 So, all right.
