Transcript
00:00 >> This was a unique game in that your team usually plays so solid.
00:04 And today they didn't do that for whatever reason.
00:07 But what's your thoughts on what happened today?
00:10 >> We are human beings.
00:13 That's what happened today.
00:15 Gotta absolutely give credit to Louisiana.
00:19 They played well, they pitched well, they hit the ball hard,
00:23 they did everything they needed to do.
00:24 They deserve to win 100%.
00:28 We knew a game like this would be coming at some time.
00:32 I don't know that we were ready to have it happen here, but it happened.
00:38 So nothing was good enough today for us.
00:42 I mean, we had the spirit of coming back, which was great.
00:47 But from defense to pitching to timely hitting,
00:52 we wasted a lot of time early in the game.
00:56 This was a game we didn't deserve to win and we know how to come back.
01:03 I know there's too much pride on this team for us to mope around over it.
01:07 We're gonna come back and be stronger.
01:09 We've shown that and we're made like that.
01:12 >> When you look at also running errors on second a couple of times too,
01:19 just when stuff like that happens that's so uncharacteristic,
01:23 what happens to try to get back to the dugout and center the team to shake it off
01:27 and keep rolling?
01:27 >> It's just maybe being overly aggressive, things like that.
01:33 I mean, it wasn't for us not, I mean, that's what it was.
01:36 It's Jada leaving early, Hanson trying to get a good jump to beat it at third.
01:41 So we learn, we learn.
01:44 It's not by lack of effort.
01:48 It just maybe isn't the smartest thing at that time, but
01:51 you give Louisiana credit for seeing opportunities to,
01:56 they're watching Jada, nobody watches Jada.
02:02 So they got us on that, a good pick,
02:05 that catcher doesn't really do much of that.
02:08 So they caught us off guard, they caught us sleeping at times.
02:14 And they were just timely with what they were doing.
02:18 It was impressive, it was impressive.
02:21 >> I'm curious, Kenzie and T.R.A., I'm curious what your thoughts are on
02:26 what happened today and how the game went today, Kenzie?
02:30 >> I think Coach is exactly right.
02:31 We didn't do anything to deserve this game.
02:34 Credit to Lafayette, they came ready to play.
02:38 We didn't deserve to win, but this game doesn't define us.
02:43 Softball doesn't define us.
02:44 And I'm excited to come back next weekend to see what it looks like.
02:49 >> Yeah, I think it's just gonna make us even that much better.
02:51 We knew that wasn't us on the field today.
02:54 So like Kenzie said, just get back at it this week, keep working hard,
02:57 come into conference with a bang.
02:59 And I mean, it is what it is, we just keep moving forward.
03:02 >> Kenzie, you guys dealt with that pressure all last season with
03:06 the winning streak.
03:07 But then this weekend was a different element with the opening of the new field.
03:10 And Patty said Friday, no excuses, but how emotionally draining was this weekend?
03:15 >> Honestly, the tough day was the first day when we opened it.
03:21 After that, I thought we settled in pretty good.
03:23 Obviously, today was very uncharacteristic.
03:25 And really, that's that.
03:28 >> Terry, like Coach said, you guys bounced back in a huge way last year.
03:34 What does that process look like though from today to Wednesday and
03:38 then on into the weekend for you two specifically as kind of the co-captains?
03:43 >> I think today it's just getting some rest.
03:45 Here's who's being baptized after this.
03:47 So we're gonna go and celebrate her and celebrate that.
03:49 At the end of the day, that's the biggest win of the day that we could possibly have.
03:52 So just go have fun in that moment.
03:54 And then this week just hit a really hard reset button.
03:57 But also just keep grinding.
03:58 I mean, this week we're gonna grind like no other.
04:00 And I think just kinda look in a mirror, where do we wanna get to?
04:04 How can we personally get better and just go from there?
04:07 >> Patty, could you clarify what happened with Ella in the bottom of the fifth and
04:11 what was the call there?
04:12 >> We were out of the running lane.
04:15 So it was obstructing our interference by the runner.
04:18 That's where the contact happened.
04:19 If she was one step over in the running lane, she would have been safe.
04:23 It was a crazy game like that, lots of controversy.
04:27 >> Is that a situation if you had the safety bag at first,
04:31 you could run straight through?
04:32 Is that just something that weird thing?
04:34 >> I'm not an advocate for the safety race.
04:38 So it is what it is.
04:42 You just get caught up in the moment.
04:43 You're just trying to get there.
04:44 >> Patty, what's your thoughts on your pitching staff right now,
04:47 like today and throughout the week?
04:50 What do you think it's at right now?
04:52 >> I don't think they had the best weekend and I'll readily admit that to you.
04:56 I mean, I don't know.
04:59 I do feel that there was a little bit of pressure this weekend on everybody,
05:04 really, but the pitchers felt it.
05:06 It's uncharacteristic for them to give up the amount of home runs and
05:11 give up runs period at times.
05:13 So again, we're human and
05:16 to be on the streak that we're on is just unbelievable, ridiculously unbelievable.
05:22 And we take pride in that, but it's over and we knew it was gonna end, it's just when.
05:27 And so now we can just kind of let it go and get back to work and
05:32 go back to who we are, which is blue collar, hardworking, hustling,
05:37 grinding type team.
05:38 >> Kenzie, it took a little bit for the offense to get going.
05:43 What specifically did Chloe do that was so effective early in the circle?
05:48 >> I thought she was doing a good job spotting her pitches.
05:51 She was spotting that low curveball pretty well for both lefties and righties.
05:54 Lefties were, we just were taking good pitches, honestly.
06:00 We didn't, our offense didn't, we weren't ourselves today.
06:03 And I think when we are, it would be a different outcome.
06:06 >> Yeah, she said it right.
06:09 I mean, she just, again, the curveballs in and out.
06:11 There was some good moments that offense did have, but I think just came too late.
06:15 And times like that, it's just hard to get going.
06:17 But we just took too long to adjust.
06:19 But all credit to the pitcher was good, just we weren't good enough to beat her
06:23 today.
06:23 >> You've often said sometimes it's just good to get back out, make a catch,
06:29 get a hit.
06:30 So I guess you can't wait to get back to practice tomorrow or
06:34 Tuesday, whenever you're gonna get back out.
06:36 >> No, I can't wait, cuz we're tired.
06:40 We all need to take a break.
06:41 I mean, and it's no excuse.
06:44 Listen, we flat out got beat, and we admit that 100%.
06:49 There's just a lot of dramatics this weekend, and
06:52 it started before our first game.
06:54 And just the emotions and the wow factor we're all feeling.
06:59 And the fans coming, it's like the World Series.
07:04 It's what it feels like down there.
07:06 And I don't know that we knew what to expect.
07:08 So I think we know now, and we're ready to go just regroup, but
07:13 we need mental and physical rest.
