00:35 Today, in the age of disparagement, it is important to find solutions to tackle
00:40 the cognate roots to democratic and institutional decay.
00:45 The preamble of our Constitution constantly reminds us that we, the people of India,
00:51 gave unto ourselves a beautiful ecumenical Constitution and ushered in a sort of a social revolution,
00:59 a national renaissance.
01:01 Breaking out of the shackles of colonialism and becoming a free and independent nation,
01:07 we resolved solemnly to make India a sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic republic,
01:15 and to secure to all its citizens justice, liberty, equality and fraternity.
01:23 With the idea of India, we embarked on a new Indian nation-state,
01:28 marking a civilizational shift into a modern space,
01:32 inheriting the rights to elect and get elected,
01:36 to design the institutional architecture of governance and to capacitate ourselves to aspire.
01:43 Jawaharlal Nehru, in one of the Constituent Assembly debates, said,
01:48 "The first task of this Assembly is to free India through a new Constitution,
01:54 to feed the starving people and to clothe the naked masses,
01:58 and to give every Indian the fullest opportunity to develop himself according to his capacity."
02:05 And Nehru's famous 'Trust with Destiny' speech,
02:09 "Long years ago we made a trust with destiny, and now the time comes when we shall redeem our pledge,
02:17 not wholly or in full measure, but very substantially,"
02:22 constantly reminds us about the solemn pledge that we made in the preamble.
