00:00 Alright.
00:01 Alright, hello and welcome into another
00:06 episode of the killer frogs bullpen.
00:08 I'm Jay. I'm once again joined by Carson
00:10 and Carson. We got a new guest on this
00:12 week show Nathan Cross Nate. How are
00:14 you doing today? I'm doing great.
00:15 I'm glad to be on. Yeah,
00:17 it's a we got a pretty packed show today.
00:20 We're going to do a weekend recap.
00:22 I believe Christian recap.
00:23 Look ahead to the first conference
00:25 game of the weekend and then do our
00:27 typical MVP in our hot take segment.
00:29 So let's go ahead and get it started.
00:31 TCU had the globalized series
00:32 voted college classic this weekend.
00:34 They went three and only weekend
00:36 extra innings win against USC on
00:38 Friday a Saturday come back.
00:39 Come from behind win against Arizona
00:41 State and a Sunday victory against USC.
00:43 Nathan to the guest.
00:44 Let's go to start with you.
00:46 Just giving your general thoughts on
00:48 the weekend as a whole for the frogs.
00:50 Yeah, I mean, I think it was a good solid
00:53 weekend. I think we learned from it.
00:56 And I feel like it's a growing point.
00:58 I mean, the fact that we can come
01:01 back from almost anywhere is great,
01:03 and this team has a bunch of drive and
01:05 I'm seeing that more and more as we go.
01:08 I feel like we saw both pitching and
01:10 hitting and we saw some good points
01:12 in each of those, but I'm excited
01:14 for this season and what it has
01:16 to offer after seeing this weekend.
01:18 Yeah, I I agree Carson, what about you?
01:21 So I mean, it's kind of.
01:24 It's the same thing I've been saying
01:26 all season undefeated is undefeated,
01:27 and no matter how you get there,
01:29 it's I mean, you still haven't
01:31 been beat by a team.
01:33 I thought that there were some
01:35 sloppy points in the weekend,
01:37 but going off of Nate.
01:40 Being able to let up six runs and
01:43 just get him right back that is nuts
01:46 to me like that just shows how
01:49 explosive this offense is.
01:50 It shows how resilient it is.
01:52 I mean, we've talked and we've been
01:55 talking about this consistency all season
01:57 and they just keep on raising the bar.
02:00 So I mean, I I think it's really,
02:02 really cool that we were able to go three
02:05 and oh, even when we weren't playing our best ball.
02:08 Yeah.
02:10 You know, I think it was a good
02:11 weekend for TC overall.
02:12 I think the one thing that struggles
02:14 with them and we're going to talk
02:15 about it later when we get to the
02:17 rankings part is and play the same
02:19 competition and look phenomenal against
02:21 them while TCU needed to come from
02:24 behind wins and well, you know,
02:26 it's different pictures,
02:26 different matchups.
02:27 You're not going to see the exact
02:29 same thing in every game, I think.
02:32 When I look today and I'm this weekend
02:34 and I looked at TCU and I was like
02:36 these are two top tier teams,
02:37 but one is clearly in front of the
02:39 other right now and that's not.
02:41 I mean, it's we're still early into the season.
02:43 We're just starting conference
02:44 play this coming weekend,
02:45 so it could change.
02:47 TCU blew four or run leads Friday and Saturday.
02:50 That was actually the third overall in the week.
02:52 They blew a four run lead against
02:55 Washington State on Tuesday.
02:57 We saw some weekend struggles from
03:00 Curtis or Carson Bowen and Peyton Tolley as well.
03:04 Uh, do you guys want to talk
03:06 on either one of those?
03:07 Uh, yeah, I can kind of talk on Carson Bowen.
03:12 It seems like last year the majority of
03:15 his hits were to the other side of the field.
03:18 So to right field that just that
03:21 first base side.
03:23 This season he's been trying to pull
03:26 the ball seems a lot more and while
03:28 he has the power to get it out of the yard.
03:31 I don't think it's good for.
03:34 I guess the long run for this team.
03:36 Like I would much rather be him
03:39 hitting for contact rather than power.
03:41 Yeah, you know, I I think we talked
03:45 about we saw a lot this weekend.
03:47 That Carson Bowen just kind of like
03:49 seemed to be getting robbed of hits.
03:50 Same with Anthony Silva.
03:52 Yeah, just making solid contact.
03:53 It just not being able to go with it.
03:56 Nate Payton totally on the
03:58 Mountain Friday 4.1 innings.
04:01 For four walks to hit by pitches,
04:04 you know what?
04:05 What did you think of his
04:06 performance on the Mount?
04:07 I mean, it wasn't his best
04:10 performance by no means,
04:11 but what I did like is that he came
04:13 back from a lot of things that could
04:16 have made this game a lot worse.
04:17 He gave us those four solid innings.
04:20 I mean it wasn't great,
04:21 but he got us through that to where
04:23 we didn't have to use another picture.
04:25 He got us out of a few base jams
04:27 that he got himself into, but.
04:29 So I feel like he has that leadership.
04:32 And like drive to get through
04:35 innings without being like too frazzled.
04:38 But I think the inconsistency is
04:40 what's worrying me about painting totally.
04:42 But he's after talking to him last night.
04:45 He's well aware of his struggles
04:48 and he's going to bounce back,
04:50 especially within the pitching realm.
04:52 Yeah, I think the big thing with
04:55 totally is we talked about it.
04:56 Carson is his walks.
04:58 It's just it's it's really just
04:59 he's hurting himself on the base path.
05:01 He's going to get the swing and miss stuff.
05:05 But I think he got down on that and you
05:07 know he's in a much better spot because
05:09 you're going to say something good.
05:11 Yeah, well,
05:12 Sarlos mentioned that he was.
05:13 He kind of, you know,
05:15 touched on totally and kind of
05:17 talked about how he's still adjusting
05:19 to kind of the like the top of the D1
05:22 level with the better pitching,
05:24 the better hitters and.
05:29 Uhm, I think that I do think that he's
05:31 going to get better throughout the season,
05:34 especially on the hitting side.
05:36 I'm kind of waiting on that.
05:39 Those at bats where he's going to be
05:41 facing like 94 to 96 to see how he
05:43 adjusts 'cause right now it does seem
05:46 like he's trying to pull everything.
05:48 Uhm, as you can probably tell,
05:50 I'm not big on that for any hitter,
05:52 but I mean, I think that he'll figure it out.
05:56 I do.
05:56 Yeah, and then one more thing to
05:59 talk about over the weekend is just
06:01 the freshman trio that we've seen
06:03 playing the everyday lineup so far.
06:05 And right at Robinson Chase
06:07 Brunson is Sam Myers.
06:08 It really stepped up and.
06:10 Honestly, it kind of the best
06:11 part of the team right now.
06:13 Sam Myers had the walk off Friday.
06:15 The walk off single right?
06:16 Robinson is played at 3rd with
06:18 Brody Green out with injury and
06:19 his Brunson is holding down center
06:21 field and while he struggled this weekend.
06:23 He's been having a great season overall.
06:25 They would.
06:26 I mean out of the three,
06:28 who do you think is probably the most
06:30 important to the team success right now?
06:32 I'm going to say Ryder Robinson.
06:34 Uhm, the way he stepped up
06:37 defensively as well has really
06:39 showed his maturity as a young athlete.
06:43 I think it's a great position for
06:46 him to be playing both shortstop and 3rd.
06:50 I feel like he is a little bit better
06:53 on the shortstop realm of it right now,
06:55 and he's used to that because
06:56 that's what he is used to.
06:58 That's what he played in high school.
07:00 And he's really shining and he's
07:01 been able to step up when injuries
07:03 have arose, which has been a huge
07:05 impact for this frogs horn frog team,
07:07 and I look forward to seeing his
07:10 back continue to get hotter.
07:13 Yeah, what about you Carson?
07:14 So I've got I've got a one A and a one B.
07:19 So I think that Chase Brunson to me is kind of a.
07:26 It's almost like he's like a
07:28 younger Peyton Chateauneuf to me,
07:30 where he can explode.
07:33 And kind of just get the team off to a
07:35 really good start really quickly in the game.
07:38 That's my that's my original answer.
07:41 Secondly, I kind of have to shout out
07:43 makes him big speed was waiting for it
07:46 because oh my God, I didn't know we had
07:50 95 to 98 just like that as a freshman.
07:54 And.
07:55 I'm sure I'll talk on this later
07:57 and other episodes,
07:58 but having that kind of VLO is so
08:02 massive when it comes to regional,
08:05 Super regional and College World Series.
08:07 That was something that TCU lacked last year.
08:10 I mean, I think the hardest throwing
08:12 guy we had was Luke Savage and it was
08:14 94 to 95 which I mean don't get me wrong.
08:17 I'm not throwing that, but.
08:21 There are other hitters that can catch
08:23 up with that pretty easily when
08:24 you get to that level.
08:25 Yeah, you know I.
08:29 I do have to shout out Sam Myers.
08:31 I was very big on Luke Boyers on
08:33 the season going into it,
08:35 but Sam Myers is kind of stepping
08:37 through his role and kind of
08:38 overshadowed of it. Yeah,
08:39 Luke Boyers is honestly taking it in stride,
08:41 though, like he's still coming
08:42 in as a defensive replacement.
08:44 He's taking great at bats.
08:46 And also Sam Myers does not look 18.
08:49 He looks like he's 23 with that beard of his.
08:51 And yes, yes he does.
08:53 Yeah, but I think you know anything
08:55 else you guys want to add about the
08:57 weekend series before we move on
08:59 to the Avalon Christian midweek.
09:00 Well, I just want to shout out
09:03 Micah Kendricks, especially his
09:04 defensive standpoint,
09:06 especially Tuesday.
09:09 Uh, he was really shining and
09:12 that he made some big time plays.
09:15 And it's good to know if Chattanooga
09:17 goes down he could take that spot or
09:19 he can almost play anywhere on the field.
09:21 He'll his hitting will come.
09:23 He's young, so he's got robbed
09:25 of a couple of hits now.
09:27 Yeah, I mean he's hitting the ball hard.
09:30 Yeah, he's hitting it.
09:30 He's putting context.
09:31 So other than that,
09:33 I mean it's exciting to see these
09:35 young players especially get
09:37 their opportunities early.
09:38 Yeah, and then before we move on
09:41 from the weekend series,
09:42 I do want to shout out to Kyle Ayers for
09:45 his two inning performance on Friday
09:47 and Friday Saturday.
09:48 Those are great out of him.
09:49 He looked great and I'm excited
09:51 to see him continue to progress.
09:54 But you know,
09:55 let's talk about the Avalon Christian
09:57 midweek game on Tuesday.
09:58 TCU won 4-0.
09:59 It was kind of a bullpen game for the Frogs.
10:02 There was no Ben Hampton starting and I.
10:05 Decently weird lineup compared
10:07 to what we're used to seeing.
10:08 Micah Kendrick was out there.
10:10 Writer opposite back at shortstop.
10:12 We you know we've seen Kirk play
10:15 with the midweek lineup a good bit.
10:17 Nate will start with you again.
10:19 General thoughts on the Tuesday night victory.
10:23 I think it was really impressive.
10:25 It gave our.
10:27 Pitching a chance to rebound,
10:29 especially from giving up
10:31 those runs this weekend.
10:34 I think he did it as a
10:36 long term player playing that many
10:38 pictures and I feel like given.
10:41 I feel like he's trying to save Hampton.
10:44 For this weekend as a longer leave pitcher.
10:49 Uh, but other than that,
10:50 I mean hitting is going to come back.
10:52 I mean we had an off lineup and
10:54 they still didn't hit the ball bad.
10:56 There was a lot of hard hit balls.
10:58 Freddie Green hit a lot of hard hit balls,
11:01 so I'm excited about that.
11:02 That will come,
11:03 but pitching was really nice and it
11:05 was good to see Hunter Hodges,
11:07 Cademan Parker, them shine and stand up so.
11:13 Yeah, Carson.
11:15 Yeah, that's kind of the
11:17 Abilene Christian game was kind
11:18 of the game that I've been waiting
11:20 to see from the pitching staff.
11:21 Even if it was like a bullpen game
11:23 where the other team doesn't have
11:25 enough time to adjust to the picture.
11:29 I still think beating an 8 and
11:31 five Abilene Christian team.
11:33 Giving up zero runs is pretty impressive.
11:36 First, first shutout of the season.
11:38 Also, yeah, like I said,
11:40 that's what I've been waiting for.
11:41 Yeah, you know.
11:44 When you touch on it a little bit,
11:46 Nate, there's no Ben Hampton.
11:48 Does that put Ben Hampton in a weekend slot?
11:51 Is it put him in the long relief
11:52 slot like you said Nate Carson?
11:53 What what do you think
11:55 the thoughts are going on?
11:55 I mean, we know Zach Morris got hit
11:57 in the head with that line drive
11:58 all Sunday in his matchup so,
12:00 but everything that I've seen
12:01 and heard is that he's OK and
12:03 he should be good to go.
12:04 But that's also player talk.
12:05 You know how they go.
12:06 Personal, do you think we're seeing
12:08 Ben Hampton in a weekend role this
12:09 weekend or do you think he's a longer?
12:13 I think that.
12:16 I don't know because Sarlos has been
12:18 known to throw kind of curveballs
12:19 at us a little bit.
12:22 I could see Sloan or Hampton
12:24 starting on Sunday,
12:26 but I think if Zach Morris is ready to go,
12:28 I think he's going to throw him out there for.
12:31 I like even if it's only one
12:32 or two innings,
12:33 I still think that because Zach
12:35 Morris stayed in the dugout,
12:37 he didn't have to go to.
12:39 Like it's urgent care or
12:40 anything like that.
12:41 I think that he's good to go for the
12:44 most part, like that's what
12:46 Sarlos said as well.
12:48 I could see.
12:50 I could see Hampton being a long
12:52 relief guy after that.
12:54 OK, and you know you said you think
12:57 of Ben Hampton as a.
12:59 Long relief role if you had to
13:00 pick for a Sunday starter,
13:02 you taking Braden Sloan off coming
13:03 off of his performance in the
13:05 last week's midweek game or do you?
13:06 Would you want to see Ben Hampton
13:07 slot into that Sunday role?
13:10 For this particular weekend,
13:12 I'm taking Sloan.
13:13 He earned it and he's going to have
13:17 a good appearance at least to start.
13:19 I have a feeling.
13:21 Zach Morris needs to have a break.
13:23 I think he would come in better as relief.
13:25 He's going to be rattled getting hit.
13:27 I'd be rattled at back there.
13:29 I mean, I'd be nervous the rest of season.
13:31 So I'd give him a little bit of a.
13:34 Take back rule using for a couple
13:36 innings. See how he reacts.
13:38 So I say Sloan starts it and Hampton
13:41 and Morris come in as long relief,
13:43 which where you need him.
13:46 Yeah, you know,
13:46 I I think the interesting thing with
13:48 Morris is you know you're talking
13:49 about maybe sliding someone into
13:50 that Sunday role because of the
13:52 injury that happened,
13:53 but prior to the injury that
13:55 happened in the first inning,
13:55 it already allowed two runs.
13:57 You know his last if he hadn't
14:00 gotten out of a bases loaded jam,
14:01 which I know is still a great thing.
14:02 He got out of the bases loaded jam.
14:04 He hadn't gotten out of the bases
14:06 loaded jam last weekend.
14:07 We're looking at a completely different
14:09 start from Zach Morris as well.
14:10 Absolutely, so his struggles have been
14:12 there and we kind of talked about them
14:15 before the season that he's going
14:16 to have a roller coaster start and.
14:19 To what you said,
14:20 Nate, if he's going to be rattled
14:21 and he's already been kind of shaky,
14:23 I think hey, let's go in a relief.
14:25 Let's maybe throw him on the midweek.
14:27 He's Sunday started that gives him
14:28 six days of five six days of Attica.
14:31 Rest anyways.
14:33 Payton totally he was back in the
14:35 lineup with Abilene Christian matchup.
14:37 Had a home run get out and I
14:39 believe the third inning.
14:41 I think it was 113 off the bat and
14:43 got over the wall and half a second.
14:45 Literally half a second.
14:48 Is that a sign of things to come
14:50 Nate or is that hey,
14:51 maybe he just lucked into one.
14:53 His swings there.
14:54 I mean, I haven't been left in all of a swing.
14:57 It's not like he's off.
14:59 I mean his timing is a little bit off,
15:02 but I think it's the speed of
15:04 these pictures that we have seen.
15:07 None of them have been extremely fast and
15:09 I think he's prepared for that fastball coming.
15:12 So expect him to get hotter and he's
15:15 well aware of his struggles like I
15:17 said earlier and I feel like he's
15:20 going to adapt. He said he's working
15:22 hard on the off speed pitches.
15:25 And he's looking to take
15:27 advantage of more of those.
15:29 Coming up and he's excited for
15:32 his first big 12 series,
15:34 so I expect him to have a big series
15:37 and have a good hitting series as well.
15:39 Yeah, Carson, what about you?
15:41 Yeah, I I do think that.
15:45 That home run in particular.
15:47 I think he just got into one kind of based on.
15:51 Just where the ball was and kind of.
15:55 Uhm? Kind of speed of the picture,
15:58 but. Like I said already,
16:00 I'm not focused on these at bats right here.
16:02 I'm focused on the stuff that he's going
16:05 to see in Big 12 play this weekend.
16:08 I do think that his power is going
16:11 to be something that every single
16:13 team circles on their little lineup
16:15 card and I'd rightfully so.
16:17 I mean the dude, the dudes of absolute unit.
16:23 But yeah, I I kind of agree with Nate.
16:24 I think that he's going to get a little
16:26 bit better at the plate just overall.
16:27 Yeah, you know, I I think he's.
16:31 It's a good sign because he's we
16:33 talked about his timing and he's
16:34 been a little late on the fastball
16:36 and he was so early on that one
16:38 that I think it's a good sign of
16:39 he's starting to see it a little bit better.
16:42 Yeah, but you know we've.
16:44 Oh one more thing before we move on.
16:46 There was a Jack Strager signing for
16:47 the first time this season and that
16:49 curveball looks phenomenal.
16:51 Yes, it's good to see him.
16:53 Carson, you've been ranting on
16:55 about how great he looked over
16:56 this summer so it's great to see him.
16:57 But we've talked about it enough.
17:00 TCU starts conference play this weekend.
17:02 They are 13 and oh heading into
17:03 conference play undefeated for
17:05 the first time in school history,
17:06 and they're also be playing technically.
17:09 Their second away series,
17:11 but really their first away
17:12 series of the season.
17:13 They'll be traveling to Kansas
17:14 to take on the seven and four Jayhawks.
17:17 Uhm?
17:18 You know, first first conference matchup.
17:22 Nate, do you think you think it
17:23 means a little bit more to the
17:25 squad now or are they treating as
17:26 the same way they've treated the
17:28 rest of the weekend series?
17:29 After listening to Sarlouse last night,
17:33 I think they're treating it
17:34 as just a normal series.
17:37 I mean, they're starting off.
17:38 Oh no, like he said, he said,
17:39 there's no record,
17:41 so I feel like they're just going to
17:43 treat it as what they've been doing,
17:45 and it's been working.
17:46 So why change?
17:47 So I feel like you're going to see
17:49 a similar standpoint and you're
17:51 going to see a lot of rotation
17:52 in the lineup and until that
17:54 stuff working.
17:56 I don't think he's going to change it,
17:57 so I think there is.
17:59 They're expected to treat it as any
18:01 other team like Washington State or ACU.
18:03 Yeah, Carson first first weekend
18:06 first conference matchup for the weekend.
18:08 What are your expectations for the Frogs?
18:10 So my expectations are for the
18:13 pitching to dominate because.
18:17 I think that Kansas is kind of
18:19 a sneaky hitting squad.
18:21 And I don't want.
18:23 TCU to be the victim of that.
18:25 OK, I think that TCU has the better
18:28 talent on both sides of the ball,
18:30 but when you when when you say that.
18:34 That usually means that you're
18:36 going to drop one or two.
18:38 Worst case scenario.
18:39 I think that's.
18:42 And let me pull it up.
18:49 Yeah, Cody, she she hunaga.
18:52 I think that's how you say it.
18:54 He has not had a good year so far.
18:56 By his standards last year in the Big 12,
18:59 he hit like 335.
19:00 I think he's hitting like 290.
19:03 I'm praying that this is not the
19:04 series that he turns it on.
19:08 But I expect TCU to handle
19:10 business in this one.
19:10 Yeah.
19:12 Kansas, like you alluded to,
19:14 is a very sneaky good hitting team,
19:16 but I want to touch on their pitching.
19:19 They're starting rotation on the season.
19:21 There are three guys there,
19:23 Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
19:24 Guy restarting the Friday guys at 2.4
19:26 era on the season 190 opponent batting
19:29 average Dominique Vogel to Saturday guys
19:32 at 1.80 era and two to 18 opponent
19:36 batting average and Patrick Stites
19:38 has a .61 era at 236 opponent batting average.
19:42 You know the key to the this weekend
19:46 is getting past their starters
19:48 'cause their bullpen all has a
19:49 majority of over a 70 or eight.
19:51 Nate, you know.
19:55 It's it's it's we're coming into this
19:57 week and what is what are your thoughts
19:59 when you look at Kansas and their roster?
20:01 They got a solid roster.
20:04 They definitely have that starting
20:06 pitching that's going to.
20:08 Elevate them to a high level
20:10 early in the game.
20:11 I mean, they played some decent squads
20:13 like Kentucky, Washington State,
20:15 Texas State.
20:16 I mean, they haven't had us like
20:19 a shabby start to the season,
20:21 so tissue should not take them lightly.
20:24 And I think if we can get to their
20:27 starter early as we have all season,
20:30 I feel like we're going to come away
20:31 with a very successful weekend and
20:33 we'll get to him easily.
20:34 But if we can't get to that starter early,
20:38 it could be a problem because I
20:40 expect their bullpen to start.
20:42 Like evening things out because
20:43 they're just trying to figure
20:45 things out early as well.
20:46 So one thing that I'm noticing
20:49 when I look at their schedule.
20:51 When they're when they are away.
20:54 It looks like they average about
20:55 5 1/2 runs a game when they're
20:58 at home. They average 11.
20:59 Yeah, some just something
21:03 to kind of think about.
21:04 Just I'm just I'm just saying
21:07 I'm just saying I I have heard the
21:09 ball does fly down there in Kansas.
21:13 You know Kansas has a lockdown
21:14 closer though of their own
21:16 with hundreds grand is a 4.2
21:18 inning pitched on the season.
21:19 Zory or a only two strikeouts,
21:22 but Kansas does a very good job
21:23 of limiting walks and TCU is 4th
21:26 in the country and walks right now,
21:27 so it's gonna be a good battle
21:29 to see between the two.
21:30 Carson and they I'm going to ask you guys
21:34 and project the weekend rotation for me.
21:37 Let me know it.
21:38 I assume you know let me know your
21:40 Friday, Saturday, Sunday,
21:41 start if we see any changes.
21:43 Carson will start start with you.
21:44 So. I'm going off.
21:48 I'm going to go off of.
21:49 Payton totally playing last night,
21:52 so I'm assuming that he's 100% right now.
21:54 I think it's totally Klecker Sloan.
21:59 OK, I think that's what I
22:00 think that's what it is.
22:01 I I could see it being the same thing.
22:07 But the way sorry loose was talking,
22:09 I could also see it being
22:11 Morris again on Sunday.
22:12 He did not seem like he was frazzled
22:14 about the idea of Morris coming
22:16 back and playing this weekend,
22:18 and he said he will be in the rotation.
22:22 Whether that be bullpen,
22:24 he said he will be available so.
22:27 I could see that happening.
22:28 Yeah, I think the Saturday starter
22:31 is the only position that is completely
22:33 locked down with full Clucker because
22:35 I was talking heavily about how
22:37 we will split up the lefties and
22:39 the only other options between
22:40 Morris or Hampton Sloan who are
22:42 both lefties that Saturday is pretty
22:44 much a lockdown position.
22:45 I I assume totally still you know I
22:50 I wouldn't hate to see totally get a
22:52 Sunday start and you throw like
22:53 Braden Sloan on a Friday night.
22:55 Just kind of switch it up a little bit.
22:57 Let all go on the totally go on the
22:59 Sunday so he doesn't have that pressure
23:00 of being the day one of the weekend
23:02 starter and I think it might be.
23:05 A little bit better on his end.
23:08 And so anything else you guys want to
23:11 talk about when we talk about the Kansas matchup?
23:13 I think I'm good.
23:16 Yeah, alright, let's go ahead and
23:19 jump into our MVP conversation for
23:21 though will recap last weekend and we'll
23:24 go ahead and make our guesses for this week.
23:27 Last weekend it was just you and
23:29 I on the podcast. Carson were hitting.
23:31 I had Logan Maxwell.
23:34 Yeah, Peyton shot yay.
23:36 I'm gonna go ahead and take that one.
23:41 Yeah, yeah, they didn't have a bad weekend,
23:44 but I mean I know again we walk twice Friday.
23:46 Again, it sucks 'cause
23:48 Peyton didn't hit bad.
23:50 It's just that the other guy hit better.
23:53 Yeah, and then when it came to the pitching
23:57 MVP you have paid totally and you're
23:59 going to win because my choice is that
24:01 player who only had one appearance
24:04 all the weekend. It was not a good
24:07 one Friday nights game.
24:09 So that puts the overall season standings.
24:11 Carson, you have two and a half
24:14 points of the season. I have two.
24:16 Our guests have Apple point,
24:18 so Nate, you're kind of.
24:20 You can't get that zero spot alright so.
24:25 Carson will start with you.
24:26 Let's go to start with our pitching.
24:28 MVP guesses this weekend. Pitching.
24:33 Oh, I want to choose Mason Bigsby so bad.
24:38 Just just on the off chance that
24:40 he comes out and throws like four
24:42 scoreless innings or something.
24:44 No, I'm gonna go.
24:46 I'm gonna go with Cole Klecker.
24:48 I think that he's going to follow up on
24:50 his performance from this last weekend,
24:52 and I think that he's actually
24:53 going to be even better.
24:55 I think that he's going to go 6 1/2,
24:57 possibly 7 innings.
24:59 Yeah, Cole talked about
25:01 developing that cutter and yeah,
25:03 it could be interesting to see if teams
25:05 could start adjusting to it yet or
25:06 be still able to cruise. Nate,
25:08 what about you?
25:09 Who's your pitching MVP guest for the weekend?
25:11 I'm gonna go with Hunter Hodges.
25:13 I liked what I saw in the past few games.
25:17 He's been able to shut things down
25:18 and especially that one game.
25:20 I forgot what game it was,
25:21 but he came in and if Sarlouse
25:23 wouldn't have taken him out,
25:25 I think he could have shut the game down.
25:28 But his arm is looking really
25:31 nice this season so far.
25:33 And I expect it to even get better.
25:35 And Sarlouse expressed that
25:36 he wants a bigger role,
25:38 so expect him to be a big arm this weekend.
25:41 Yeah, speaking of if he had left
25:43 on our Hodges in twice,
25:44 it would have closed the game.
25:45 He could have done it Friday,
25:46 but I'm not. I digress.
25:48 I digress.
25:50 You guys left the easiest option
25:51 out there for me to take it.
25:53 Been able been able to have a bad
25:54 performance on Tuesday night against
25:56 Washington State at bad performance
25:57 Friday night against USC.
25:59 He's due for a bounce pass,
26:01 bounce back weekend.
26:02 He's had the last week off basically resting,
26:05 so he's going to be well rested.
26:06 He won't be stressed.
26:08 And he still is the go to closer for the team,
26:10 regardless of those last two performances.
26:12 Yeah, I think I think he's going to come in
26:14 and play a big part of this weekend's matchup.
26:19 So let's go to hitting.
26:21 Nate will start with you on this one.
26:22 Go ahead and give your hitting MVP.
26:25 I'm going to go with Ryder Robinson.
26:27 I've liked what I've seen from him
26:29 and I don't expect him to go cold,
26:33 so I expect him to have a big weekend.
26:37 OK, I like that one.
26:38 What about you Carson?
26:41 I'm going to go.
26:44 Tell you what.
26:46 I'm going to stick with Peyton.
26:47 OK, I'm sticking with him.
26:50 Alright, I like it.
26:53 I you know I was trying to decide
26:55 between mine and you.
26:58 You know the first one is going
26:59 to be between Brody Green.
27:01 You know I love that man
27:02 and could it could it get myself to bring
27:05 bring myself to get him because I don't know
27:07 if he's going to start this weekend.
27:08 He could get a DH role starting this weekend
27:11 if he still look kind of nursing
27:12 out a leg injury,
27:13 but Ryder Robinson's playing graded third,
27:15 so I don't think he's going to see enough action,
27:17 but I'm going Anthony Silva.
27:19 He had a rough weekend at Globe Life
27:21 and it wasn't really his fault.
27:23 He was making really good contact with the ball.
27:25 It was just always right out
27:27 of the USC Arizona State player.
27:29 You know he didn't play Tuesday night.
27:31 Didn't play Sunday.
27:32 He's going to be well rested.
27:33 I think I think he's due for a big weekend
27:35 and you know Carson,
27:36 you've mentioned it a little bit this season
27:39 that he hasn't looked the same
27:40 as what you thought you would so far,
27:41 and I think eventually you know he's
27:43 due for that to come back on.
27:45 I think this week kicks it off.
27:47 Yeah, I mean it seems like he's kind
27:50 of been hunting fastballs where last year
27:54 it that wasn't what he really thrived on.
27:56 Like he can hit both off speed and fastballs,
27:59 but off speed last year man.
28:01 He was hitting gap to gap.
28:04 Yeah, I you know he's due for a resurgence.
28:07 I think it's going to come soon.
28:08 Alright, well we you know let's get
28:13 into our last topic of the day and
28:14 it's our hot take segment that
28:16 we started doing last weekend.
28:17 Nate, I'll ask the first one of you
28:21 and then we'll kick it over to Carson
28:22 to get his thoughts on it.
28:23 Are TCU's comfort behind wins a sign
28:25 of a good team or a sign of a lucky team?
28:29 Sign of a good team.
28:31 I mean you can get lucky once,
28:33 but to do it two to three times
28:36 already is impressive and it shows
28:38 that this team doesn't want to give up.
28:40 If anything.
28:42 And the fact that any part of the
28:44 lineup can go off at any moment,
28:46 even the freshman.
28:48 That's not luck.
28:49 I mean,
28:50 seeing different pictures is not luck.
28:53 So I think it's a sign of a good team.
28:56 Yeah, Carson, your thoughts.
28:57 I mean, they take the words
29:00 right out of my mouth.
29:01 Yeah, if we're talking just good or lucky.
29:04 It's it's good because I don't think
29:07 I've ever seen a team buy into the
29:10 idea that you're never out of a
29:12 game so quickly in the season.
29:15 I feel like that is something
29:18 priceless in college baseball,
29:20 especially when you're a top five team.
29:22 And you're playing.
29:23 I mean, you're playing as a
29:25 top five team every week,
29:27 you know? Yeah, you know,
29:28 I will agree with both you guys.
29:30 It is the sign of a good team,
29:33 but I will say it's probably 7030.
29:35 Because if it was like they were down
29:37 by one run or two runs and they're
29:39 coming from behind, that's a great team.
29:41 They know how to win.
29:42 They know how to fight through adversity,
29:43 but sometimes being down four runs
29:45 and then putting up a six spot takes
29:47 a little bit of luck to, you know,
29:49 get with that and you know, Carson,
29:50 I think we've talked about enough
29:52 is that. Even when they fall behind
29:55 in the game and Nate,
29:56 let me know if you share the same sentiment.
29:57 But when TC falls behind in the game,
29:59 I kind of don't.
30:01 Feel like all bad this games over
30:03 like when they had a six ball put
30:04 on him by Arizona State.
30:05 I wasn't like oh man,
30:06 this game is over there done.
30:07 I was like hey this you know they
30:09 still got about there's still a chance.
30:12 Yeah.
30:14 Uhm, let's go with our second hot take.
30:18 Should TCU be the rank number
30:19 one team in the country?
30:21 There's only five teams undefeated.
30:23 They are currently the highest ranked
30:24 undefeated team left in the country.
30:26 They currently sit behind by most rankings.
30:28 It's Wake Forest, LSU, Arkansas, Florida.
30:31 Do you know Carson?
30:32 Let's start with you on this one.
30:34 Should TCU be number one in the country?
30:37 Frog ball fans are going to hate me,
30:39 but no, OK, this team has too
30:42 many inconsistencies right now.
30:46 The relief pitching is suspect.
30:48 The starting pitching I think
30:50 is a little suspect.
30:52 Uhm, I think that TCU has the tools.
30:56 And has the talent to.
30:59 Be a top five pitching staff,
31:01 but it's kind of finding where.
31:04 Where all of those guys feel
31:06 comfortable pitching that's kind
31:08 of the hard part right now,
31:09 and Sarlos obviously is still
31:11 working on that and is still kind
31:14 of figuring out what what dynamics
31:16 work on the mound.
31:18 I think that you'll learn a lot
31:19 more about this pitching staff once
31:21 we get into Big 12 play here soon.
31:24 Yeah, Nate, what about you?
31:26 Should you be ranked number one?
31:27 I wouldn't say number one,
31:30 but they should definitely
31:32 be number one or number two.
31:34 I think it's about earning it
31:36 and they've earned it so far,
31:38 and I think it's kind of disrespectful
31:40 what they have done to Texas A&M and TCU.
31:43 And Florida is a big joke.
31:46 I'll put that out there right now.
31:48 They're choking on every aspect
31:50 and the only person that the only
31:52 team that I agree with being up
31:53 there right now is Wake Forest.
31:56 And they've shown that they've been
31:58 able to shut people out pretty well.
32:00 I mean, they've lost one here and there.
32:03 But TCU being undefeated is.
32:05 It's just disrespectful to
32:07 leave us at number 5.
32:08 Yeah, you know I I do agree with you
32:11 that Florida is should we should
32:12 definitely be at least ahead of Florida.
32:16 I will make the argument and.
32:18 I don't like a number the slightest
32:21 and sloshing a goals over there,
32:22 coaching them.
32:24 But if you're going to say hey,
32:25 TCU needs to be number one
32:27 because they're undefeated.
32:28 And I'm sorry it has to be in front of TCU.
32:31 They just look like the more
32:32 complete team right now,
32:33 but I do believe that TCU should move up
32:35 and I do believe TCU will move up
32:37 after Florida got dismantled by UCF
32:39 during midweek today.
32:41 Jack Caglione is the only one they've got.
32:43 I'm sorry, that's the only guy
32:46 that I fear.
32:47 Yeah, I just I don't.
32:48 I don't think they're good besides that.
32:51 And we have our own Jack Caglione at home.
32:53 He's just finally getting
32:55 hot right now.
32:55 We have a Jack Caglione, he's bigger.
32:58 Yeah, speaking of our own Jack Caglione,
33:01 our last hot take question of the night.
33:02 Payton totally should focus on
33:05 hitting or pitching only,
33:07 and if you agree, tell me which one.
33:09 Nate, start with you.
33:10 I'm going to say I want him to focus
33:15 on pitching.
33:16 I feel like he's the guy that could
33:20 give us those long innings and he
33:22 could be that dominant guy.
33:23 I mean right now I'm more confident
33:26 in clicker, but the rate that totally
33:29 gets those strikeouts impresses me.
33:31 And so if he can refine the walks
33:33 and getting into those jams.
33:35 It's going to be impressive for his resume
33:38 and just see him hit just like a
33:41 couple few times a week.
33:44 But right now there's so many hitters
33:45 that I'd rather him focus on the
33:48 pitching aspect that we need more.
33:50 OK, yeah, I I do agree.
33:53 Carson, what about you?
33:54 So I. I don't agree OK and I'll
33:59 tell you why. I think it's kind of a
34:03 just maybe it's my preference, but whenever.
34:07 Whenever I think about a
34:08 pitcher that can hit as well,
34:09 I always think of it how they treat it.
34:12 Sometimes the MLB level where that
34:14 pitcher will get DH for the day that
34:17 he's pitching and then he'll hit the
34:19 next two days or the next two
34:22 or three days of the series.
34:24 So I'm interested to see if
34:25 Sarlos does that.
34:27 Just 'cause I think that.
34:31 Maybe having him do everything one
34:34 day and then nothing for the rest of
34:35 the weekend is kind of messing with him.
34:39 I would rather him pitch on Friday
34:41 and then focus on hitting Saturday
34:43 and Sunday so it's all he has to worry about.
34:45 Yeah, I think both of you make
34:48 really great points and.
34:50 I do think that totally came to a good
34:52 situation where he doesn't have
34:54 to focus on pitching or hitting,
34:56 but if he was able to, he could.
34:58 The lineup so deep that you know,
35:01 I think I'm almost at the point where
35:02 I'd rather focus on pitching if I
35:04 had a pick simply because.
35:06 You know, we're trying to get
35:07 him started in the DH role,
35:09 trying to get him hot,
35:10 trying to get him going 'cause that
35:11 just makes the lineup so much better.
35:13 But then we're not giving to it.
35:14 That's like a, you know,
35:15 Jack Basseur or Brody Green.
35:18 Or you know,
35:19 it like Luke Boyers could be in that DH role.
35:22 You know, I think it kind of takes away
35:24 from guys who could be contributing
35:25 at a higher level than paint.
35:26 Only is right now.
35:28 I'm not saying that he can't
35:29 get to that point, but you know.
35:31 Right now is right now and that's what
35:33 you know Kirk likes to play for.
35:35 I think it's what the team's
35:35 currently playing for.
35:39 Think that'll do it for today's episode.
35:41 You guys have anything else you want
35:42 to add before we close this one out?
35:44 I think it should be a
35:47 good weekend of baseball.
35:48 I'm excited to see.
35:50 How the how the pitching does
35:51 against Big 12 ball and I'm just
35:54 excited to see him back in action.
35:55 Yeah, last you know first weekend
35:59 of conference play next week will
36:00 be going to two episodes a week.
36:02 The weekend recap and the midweek
36:04 preview will come out Monday night
36:06 slash Tuesday morning and then
36:08 we'll do our normal Thursday night
36:09 episode where we do the midweek
