Producer Karen Ryan tells THR at the THR X TikTok Awards Weekend Party how she's so excited to see 'Nimona' celebrated in the industry and being nominated for an Oscar. Plus, she reveals how much the audience response has meant to her.

00:02 Oh man, excited. Really excited. This whole thing has just been so fun and so great to see Nimona celebrated in the industry.
00:09 We almost, I mean, we were cancelled. So the fact that we got to save the movie and it's back
00:14 and we're the first animated film to be nominated that has queer main characters and a trans allegory
00:21 and we're just, we're so excited. We're so excited about what this statement means, being nominated for an Oscar.
00:25 What has the audience response to the film meant to you from those who've seen it and it really touched them?
00:29 Everything. Like you make these movies and you make them for yourselves and you put them out into the world
00:34 and you hope that people see themselves and this movie has been, like, people are feeling seen there.
00:40 We're representing people who aren't represented and they should be, especially in kids and family entertainment.
00:46 So the reception of the film has been like literally a dream come true.
00:49 You can't ask for anything more when you make films like this.
00:52 What's been the highlight of your award season journey for you with this movie?
00:56 I don't know. All of it has just been so great. It's been so nice meeting all of the other nominees
01:02 and all the other filmmakers and just feeling the community out here. It's just all of it. It's been great.
01:07 Have you had a favorite award season run in? Somebody you've gotten to meet this award season?
01:11 I got to meet Celine Song and I love past lives so much. So I got to meet her and I got to tell her that
01:17 and she hugged me and it was just a really wonderful moment.
01:20 When it comes to best picture on Sunday, which movie are you rooting for? Do you want to say?
01:25 Past lives. 100%. I love all the movies are great. It's been a great year. Past lives. I want more films like that.
01:31 Do you have a favorite performance from this past year?
01:34 Performance? I don't know. In what way? Performance. Oh, actor. Sorry. I thought you were talking about musical performance.
01:43 They've all been really, really good. I think my favorite performance. I don't know. I don't think I can pick one.
01:49 So many amazing ones. And of course, a big narrative this award season is all about Barbenheimer, Barbie vs Oppenheimer.
01:55 If you have to choose one, which one do you choose?
01:58 I would choose Barbie. I loved it. I think Greta Gerwig is an amazing director and I want to see more of her films.
02:05 When it comes to Sunday, do you have your outfit all picked out? Are you all ready to go or still some last minute things being decided?
02:11 I am ready. I've got my outfit set. I have an amazing stylist. Her name is Ariel Tunnel and she's wonderful and she's got me hooked up and I cannot wait.
02:18 We're excited to see it. And of course, there's no food at the show. It's a very long show. Do you prepare by bringing any snacks?
02:25 What's the preparation situation like?
02:28 I bring snacks everywhere. So yes, I will have snacks.
