00:00 >> What's been the biggest part of just adjusting,
00:02 settling in here over these last, since you arrived?
00:05 >> Being able to adapt at first, there's a lot of adversity for me coming through
00:10 this early session, so being able to adapt was really one of my main points.
00:15 >> How helpful has it been?
00:17 New place, but not like you're halfway across the country, stuff like that.
00:21 >> I mean, it's been pretty smooth after those visits,
00:26 taking those visits is one thing that helped me.
00:30 I feel like I kinda had a clue where everything was really pretty much at.
00:34 That's the reason why I kept coming back on the visits.
00:37 But besides that, everything's been great.
00:40 >> Who are kinda some of the guys that you connected with early on to help you get
00:44 settled in and rolling?
00:45 >> Bonte, Bonte, cuz he's one of my big brothers up here, so
00:50 he's one of those guys, not selfish about anything, team player.
00:54 He helped me get in on everything really smooth,
00:57 helped me know where to go get a haircut or anything like that, little small things.
01:00 >> Yeah, is that, help to just have those guys settle into life in Norman when
01:05 you're not doing workouts, class, all that fun stuff.
01:08 >> What was that question?
01:09 >> Just settle into Norman, just all five.
01:12 When you look at, how's the relationship with Coach Murray grown from just
01:15 the recruitment process to being here in the winter and all that stuff?
01:18 >> I mean, it's tough love.
01:20 Now that I'm here, it's really tough love, everything's legit, it's not a game.
01:24 I'm not here to play a game, I'm not here to be lied.
01:27 But me and Coach Murray, it's really tough love.
01:29 He's a hard coach, it's really tough on me, and
01:31 I appreciate that from him cuz it helps me improve.
01:34 But it's been everything's been smooth, it's been great.
01:36 I like how he runs things.
01:38 >> What kind of, your skill set's unique to some of the other guys that are in
01:42 the room, just as far as the bruising nature that you bring?
01:46 How important do you think that can be to add in to just that whole group?
01:52 >> I'll say my power for sure, but there's one thing I feel like that ain't really
01:56 been out there and that a lot of people seen is probably the burst.
01:58 >> Coach Murray, pass pro details, all that stuff.
02:03 Has that been one of the first adjustments,
02:05 just everything he wants you to be on top of?
02:07 >> Yeah, protection comes first.
02:09 You don't wanna get back there and nobody back there, and
02:12 your quarterback's getting hit, beat on.
02:13 You don't want that, that brings down the team.
02:16 And we've been running the ball all our lives, and so
02:19 you gotta feel the world and what's going on.
02:21 But protection's one of the main parts, being honest and-
02:24 >> What's that relationship with Coach
02:26 Luttrell been like since he was elevated up and then getting to know him a little
02:30 bit more?
02:30 >> I mean, it's been good, Coach Luttrell.
02:33 Every time through walkthroughs, he's helping me point out some points.
02:36 >> But what have you learned about Jackson,
02:38 just the leader that he is through some of the winter stuff?
02:41 >> He's a really good team player, he's very vocal,
02:46 very confident in what he does.
02:50 And we all appreciate, I appreciate him for sure.
02:54 I know the team appreciates him for that too.
02:56 That's somebody you need, that's somebody I need for
02:59 me to be coming in as early enrolling, trying to understand a lot of things.
03:05 >> How helpful is it that some of these guys, early enrolling is kind of
03:09 the thing now to be able to help you?
03:12 Any little bump you might have just knowing, hey, been there, done that,
03:15 this is how you get through all that stuff.
03:17 >> Yeah, with things like this, it helps you adapt.
03:20 Like I said, adapt to a lot of things a lot quicker before the season starts.
03:26 And it helps you be consistent later in the summer,
03:30 understand your teammates more in the backfield.
03:36 You're just not looking at your position, you're understanding the front.
03:39 What QB does and receivers.
03:42 >> First impressions of Schmidty?
03:43 >> Tough, it's real.
03:46 What they put on the media is actually legit.
03:49 >> Do you remember the first, one day, day three, how quick was it?
03:54 >> Day one, I'm up at 5 AM, we're walking to the end door at 6.
04:00 We blowing that whistle, that whistle's blowing.
04:02 Everybody hear a click, just stomping, stomping, stomping inside the end door.
04:06 Everybody's yelling, so I mean, it woke me up right there.
04:09 That was my first wake up right there.
04:10 >> Xavier, how surreal has it been, I mean, since you are from right up the road,
04:16 actually wearing the OU during these workouts?
04:18 >> It's been tough.
04:19 I mean, when you're going out there, you're not just showcasing yourself, but
04:24 you're representing your mom, your entire family, your all relative, OU.
04:30 So I know you've been evaluated by everybody, so you know, I stay consistent.
04:35 >> What's it like working with DeMarco,
04:37 somebody who's done it obviously at the highest level you can?
04:40 >> Man, coming from a coach who's really done it, very experienced,
04:43 he understands what it's gonna take.
04:46 And he understands adversity, that's gonna come this way.
04:50 And I'm glad I got a coach like that who understand what's really,
04:55 who understand what's really going on.
04:58 But besides his legacy, he's a really very hard, tough coach.
05:02 >> You look around the guys in the running back room, how special is this group?
05:07 >> Yeah, everybody's a team player, no one's selfish about the game.
05:13 We wanna be the best room, I feel, being very supportive.
05:17 >> You talked about how tough Schmidty is, and
05:19 Coach BV talked about how this group of newcomers has really been up to the task.
05:23 What is it about this group, what's kind of the MO of this group so far?
05:26 >> I said before, me and this group, before we even got here,
05:30 we talked about some goals, what we wanna set.
05:33 We don't wanna be behind or anything, we always wanna be first.
05:37 We always appreciate each other, be there first, be there last.
05:42 And when it comes to leaving that building, so we got some goals in that.
05:47 >> Has it made you guys closer as a group also?
05:50 >> Yeah, for sure, everybody, the relationship has been even tighter.
05:53 >> It's been good, yeah, for sure.
