00:00 I think they're gonna like it.
00:02 >> So obviously coming here in January, how's the transition been?
00:06 >> I think it's been really well.
00:08 We're just getting out, getting to work, trying to learn everything,
00:12 get used to everything.
00:13 We got great guys above us leading us and stuff like that.
00:16 So it's been pretty well.
00:17 >> You mentioned some of those veterans in the safety room.
00:19 What's it been like getting to learn from them?
00:21 >> What'd you say?
00:21 >> You mentioned some of the veterans in that defensive backroom.
00:24 What's it been like getting to learn from them?
00:26 >> Being to learn from guys like Billy.
00:28 He's been playing his whole college career.
00:30 He's a great leader.
00:31 I mean, I look at him as really a coach too, not just a player.
00:33 Cuz he kinda knows everything.
00:35 He's willing to help you out with everything.
00:36 Peyton Bowen, RJ, those guys, they're really focused on football, but
00:40 they're really good guys off the field too.
00:42 So it helps you be able to learn from them and be comfortable with them.
00:46 >> What about Brandon Hall?
00:47 How's it been now that he's not recruiting you anymore, your coach?
00:50 How's that been?
00:51 >> It's been well.
00:52 Coach Hall has always been a guy to keep it real.
00:54 He just wants to see you get better.
00:56 So he puts a lot of effort in us and to the safety group.
00:58 I feel like he really cares about us.
01:00 He wants us to be a great position group.
01:02 So we put in a lot of work.
01:03 He's been a great guy to talk to, not just about football,
01:07 it's about everything.
01:08 He's a great person.
01:09 >> So I think a lot of people have seen the film.
01:11 I think Greenville has even mentioned it before.
01:13 But from your perspective,
01:14 what do you think you provide to Oklahoma's defense?
01:17 >> I think I bring a physical nature that not everyone has.
01:21 I'm willing to do a lot of things.
01:22 I'm versatile.
01:23 I can go out, I can cover, I can come down, I can blitz.
01:25 So I think my play style is just brings versatility to the defense.
01:29 And I'm gonna play hard every play.
01:31 >> Is there a player in college in the NFL that you feel like you kind of
01:34 replicate your game after?
01:36 >> Yeah, I would say Jamal Adams.
01:37 I like his, he's kind of like a hybrid.
01:39 So he played safety and nickel.
01:41 So that's kind of what I play.
01:43 And his ability to blitz and cover and play his own, I think that's big.
01:47 Just being able to do a lot of things and play different positions.
01:50 >> So I think a lot of people outside of the program hear about Coach Smith and
01:53 how hard some of those workouts are.
01:55 Are they living up to that difficulty?
01:58 >> Yeah, coming here, I heard that, but I didn't really know it yet cuz I didn't
02:01 see it.
02:02 But definitely, Coach Smith, he's a disciplined coach.
02:06 You better come to work.
02:08 You better not come in tired and all like that.
02:10 You better come and work or he'll let you know.
02:12 It's very high intense.
02:14 Don't come in last.
02:15 We're gonna work.
02:16 >> Did you know Brent Venables, he's obviously a defensive coach.
02:19 Does that matter to you getting to play for
02:21 a guy who has kind of a defensive mindset?
02:23 >> Yeah, I think that was one of the main things for me to come to OU.
02:26 Seeing him at Clemson, being one of the best defensive coordinators in
02:30 college football, if not the best.
02:32 Him coming here to be a coach, I just know it's gonna be a hard-nosed team.
02:35 All we wanna do is win.
02:36 So him being the leader of this team,
02:39 I think it's gonna just sway everyone to just work hard and to be great.
02:42 >> And obviously, you guys have a new defensive coordinator now in Zach Alley.
02:45 How's it been getting to kinda know him?
02:48 >> I think Coach Alley, he's a younger guy, but he's very intense,
02:51 very competitive guy.
02:52 So I think he's very smart too.
02:54 So he's kinda like a mini Coach Venables.
02:57 He just wants us to work, he's high-tense.
02:59 He's not gonna let you slack on anything.
03:01 He just wants y'all to be good, and we wanna win.
03:03 >> You have any games circled on the schedule this year?
03:06 >> At LSU, that's gonna be a game.
03:10 But every game counts.
03:11 We wanna win every game, so every game is really circled for us.
03:15 But LSU should be a fun one.
03:16 >> You're excited to play in the SEC.
03:17 Did that kinda factor into your decision at all?
03:19 >> Yeah, I think the competitiveness is definitely different.
03:22 Big 12 SEC, we kinda know the difference between that.
03:25 It's a little bit more fast, a little bit more bigger players.
03:27 So I think that was big for me because even going to the league, like NFL,
03:31 they're gonna look at, are you playing in the SEC, the best conference?
03:35 So I think that's a good thing too for us.
03:38 >> Coming from Ohio to Oklahoma, how's that transition been?
03:42 >> It's definitely been different.
03:43 You can't just drive home, 14-hour drive.
03:46 So it's been different for me and my family.
03:48 But I think we all know it's the best for me.
03:51 And I know I came here to do business.
03:53 So I think it'll all be worth it.
03:56 >> Have you ever been to Oklahoma before they started recruiting you?
03:58 >> No.
03:58 >> What are your first impressions?
04:00 >> Kinda laid back state, not too much buildings or nothing like that around.
04:05 Kinda just, when I came to campus, it kinda just felt like a football campus.
04:09 I just heard everyone was a football fan, everyone loves football.
04:12 I said that was big for me too, the community and stuff like that.
04:15 Here in every game has been basically sold out for years now.
04:19 So I think that was big for me too.
04:21 >> Who are you getting to room with here?
04:22 >> Michael Boganowski, so safety too.
04:24 I met him on my visit, both visits I came, he was there too.
04:27 So we spent time with each other, kinda bonded right away.
04:30 So I think it was a great fit for us, we're a great fit to be together.
