00:00 The good times continued to roll for Oklahoma this week. A midweek two-fer
00:05 against the Tarleton State Texans. Oklahoma went 2-0. Two impressive
00:10 performances. Two impressive individual performances as well as what the team
00:14 was bringing to the table. We'll talk about all that plus we will preview
00:18 Oklahoma's weekend trip to Lubbock as the Sooners hop back into Big 12 play.
00:24 Their first Big 12 road trip of the year against the Texas Tech Red Raiders. All
00:28 that and more coming up right now it's the All Sooners softball show.
00:34 What's up welcome back Ryan Chapman here for AllSooners.com. As the softball
00:47 season continues to rage into this March we're into a really fun new set of the
00:52 season. The non-conference for the most part has wrapped up. You're into weekend
00:57 week out Big 12 play as Oklahoma as I said is gonna get ready. Their first Big
01:02 12 road trip of the year. Not their first true road game. Did have a couple of
01:06 games at McNeese State but with the multi-team tournament it's a little bit
01:09 different. This is the first true road series of the season. Oklahoma back at
01:13 number one after Texas's win against Houston. Series win but drop in one of
01:19 those games. Texas also dropped their Tuesday midweek game in Baton Rouge but
01:23 it was a couple of games against Tarleton State where Oklahoma's stars of
01:28 the weekend Kelly Maxwell in the circle Sydney Sanders at the plate. They
01:33 dominated Iowa State. They dominated Tarleton State. Let's start with Sanders
01:39 another two games another two home runs. What more can you say about her? Her home
01:45 run tally for the month of March alone eight home runs just in March. Look us up
01:51 we're not even halfway through the month. It's been insane.
01:55 Patti Gasol on Sunday if you remember on the All-Senior Softball Show if you
01:58 missed it that we talked about Tuesday a couple days ago talked about how this
02:02 breakout campaign is a year in the making and for Sanders finally she
02:06 talked about how she's feeling more than just the taking things one pitch at a
02:10 time how she's feeling in the box. Very like everything's lifted off me like I
02:17 don't know it just comes easy now like not really worried about anything. I
02:21 don't know it just it's coming to me I don't know it's amazing to see for
02:27 myself from progress from last year to here. Very uplifting I'd say. Sanders is
02:33 unconscious right now and and it's really starting to feel like Oklahoma is
02:37 finding that groove when the Oklahoma lineups of the past have been their
02:40 absolute best it's when you truly have six seven just headaches of hey if you
02:47 don't control this player if you don't have a good weekend against that player
02:51 they can come in and they can flat-out take over a series. Sydney Sanders took
02:56 over that series against Iowa State and now you look up and down the lineup
03:00 Tiara Jennings more than capable of that she's having a good season she had a
03:04 little bit of a slump through it but she busted that on Sunday was fine against
03:08 Tarleton State. You look at Alyssa Brito she can go in there and she can take
03:13 over a series I imagine Brito spent a ton of time in the cages after that game
03:18 against Tarleton State the two games against Tarleton State. Jada Coleman as
03:21 we know can take things over. Kenzie Hanson who was sick against Tarleton
03:25 State but will be back on line this weekend she can take things over Riley
03:29 Boone in her own way less hitting home runs left right and center although she
03:33 did have that home running in Tyra State she can take over a series now it feels
03:36 like Oklahoma is truly five or six deep as far as what it was happening there
03:41 that's a really good place for Oklahoma to be they're also getting fun
03:45 contributions off the bench Quincy Lillio had a big home run here in the
03:50 last couple of games Hannah Kaur hit her first career home run and you just look
03:54 at what Tiara excuse me not Tiara Jennings Sydney Sanders and Kelly Maxwell
03:58 have to say right here about their excitement for Hannah Kaur you can see
04:02 why the good times are rolling to Norman. I'm super excited I think I PR'd in a joke.
04:09 It's not just the bats that are heating up though Kelly Maxwell goes out just
04:19 five innings but it was Oklahoma's first no-hitter of the year in game one
04:23 against Tarleton State an error away from not just no-hitter but a perfect
04:27 game for Kelly Maxwell you pair that with what she did on Saturday game one
04:32 against the Cyclones that was seven scoreless obviously the five scoreless
04:37 innings against Tarleton State and you're looking up and it really feels
04:41 like Kelly Maxwell has not just settled into the new atmosphere playing at
04:46 Oklahoma all the eyeballs all that stuff but what coach Jennifer Rocha what she
04:51 does as far as controlling Oklahoma's pitchers controlling the bullpen seems
04:54 like they're really getting into a groove and that couldn't come in a
04:57 better time for Oklahoma as conference play heats up. It's feeling good I think
05:02 I've worked really hard with coach Rocha here lately just really trying to nail
05:07 down you know her philosophy and I think it's kind of showing it's getting easy
05:13 kind of learning what she's taught so it's just cool to see everything fall
05:20 into place. Not just Kelly Maxwell who by the way it looks like she's moved into
05:25 that Friday starter spot the the quote-unquote ace spot Patagasso
05:29 wouldn't call it that but it looks like she's moved to that for Oklahoma got the
05:32 first start against Iowa State got that start in game one against Tarleton State
05:36 and I would expect her to get to start on Friday against Texas Tech. Really
05:40 fascinating weekend ahead for Oklahoma's pitchers on two fronts first off Nicole
05:43 May she continues to give up a lot more hits than you'd be accustomed to in the
05:47 first couple of innings now nine of the hits she's given up all season long when
05:53 she got those first two hits against Tarleton State nine of 23 hits total to
05:58 that point in the season hadn't given up in the first inning heading into this
06:01 Tarleton State series she'd only given up 21 hits seven in the first inning
06:05 seven in the second inning seven spread throughout the rest of games for her
06:09 she's got to figure out how to start games better kind of looks like the
06:12 Nicole May of a couple years ago where she gets out of jams but the jams are a
06:16 little bit self-inflicted whether it be walks or hits so something to adjust
06:21 there and then on the Kirsten Diehl front it's been the exact opposite since
06:25 that performance against Long Beach State she's not giving up a run and she
06:29 hasn't gotten the marquee matchups quite yet but it should be really really
06:33 interesting to see what Kirsten Diehl looks like as Oklahoma heads to Lubbock
06:36 this is a Texas Tech team that for last year took a bunch of steps forward as
06:41 far as home run hitting batting average they were a lot better offensively than
06:46 they had been a couple years past under a new coaching staff Texas Tech in that
06:50 spot again already this year as you look at it they had hit 23 home runs through
06:56 their first 22 games once again didn't really load up a huge non-conference
07:00 schedule kind of a high scoring contest against Florida State they played
07:04 Charlotte but otherwise not really really battle-tested it'll be a big trip
07:09 for Oklahoma it's not just dealing with Texas Tech's backs but as Patty Gasso
07:13 said on Tuesday night a very unique atmosphere that Oklahoma has to deal
07:17 with in Lubbock. Texas Tech is tough they got a very nice record they swing and
07:23 it's a tough place to play so it's usually windy or dusty or things like
07:31 that it's tough to play there and they've got a good fan base they've got
07:37 a very good coach that's coaching they're very confident and they've been
07:42 swinging well scoring lots of runs so it's definitely one of the tougher places
07:48 to play maybe not exactly because of the fans but more of just the environment
07:55 and the way the wind is and you know the temps and so forth and I think we're
07:59 walking into some of that this weekend so we've got to be tough we've got to be
08:03 tough athletes this weekend. All of that will get started on Friday like I said
08:09 Friday Saturday Sunday Sooners will be in Lubbock for a road trip looking to
08:14 stay perfect atop the Big 12 standings everybody else either two and one or
08:19 worse a bunch of split series series wins but only one sweep in the Big 12
08:23 last weekend that was Oklahoma against Iowa State. We'll be back here all
