00:00 Manchester has been voted the least polite city in the UK after data from
00:05 TripAdvisor and the online database Numbeo was compared. UK cities were
00:10 looked at and given a rating out of 30 with Manchester being given a very low
00:14 score of just 3.6. The city came just ahead of London which scored almost
00:19 double at 6.6 and Sunderland which came in at 8.6. TripAdvisor reviews were
00:25 scanned for words such as friendly, polite and fantastic and Numbeo's data
00:29 took into consideration a city's safety index and cleanliness score. We asked
00:34 people on the streets of Manchester what they think about the city being voted
00:37 the least polite in the UK. Very doubtful that. I can't imagine anybody saying that
00:44 Manchester's the least polite. I would say the further south you go, the less
00:50 people talk to you, they tend to ignore you. Whereas here at least when you're
00:53 walking round you know you get a smile or two. I always try and offer a smile best
01:00 I can. It depends if they make eye contact. So that's my opinion. I don't
01:06 think Manchester's definitely not the least polite. I can understand why
01:11 but I mean it's a big city I guess but I thought to be honest that London was
01:18 worse because I mean I've heard like in London it's very impolite especially
01:26 because it's like a big city I guess. I can't imagine. Times are hard. Maybe
01:31 people don't have the time to be polite. I don't agree with that really. Although
01:35 I don't come into Manchester city centre much but everybody's always so busy
01:40 rushing around. Maybe that is it. I don't know. And the times you know. People
01:46 aren't as happy as they used to be or as sociable I don't think. I don't think
01:50 anywhere people are sociable really. No I don't agree with that. I think we can be
01:55 direct. So my assessment having worked jobs where I've phoned people all over
02:00 the country that the further north you get the more friendly and polite
02:04 everyone is. There's like all the way to Scotland being just the nicest people to
02:09 talk to in the country and all the way when you go to like Devon they don't
02:13 want to speak to you.
