00:00Okay, time for the dress. Do you want to see it?
00:07Welcome to Ms Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the best bridal looks in
00:13film, even if they weren't worn to weddings. Beware of potential spoilers ahead.
00:19I'm going to need a minute or two.
00:24Thank you, your highness.
00:27Number 30, Shotgun Wedding
00:29Oh, the prettiest of them all. You look so much better than the rest of us.
00:35There isn't much that J.Lo can wear that doesn't look good on her, and this wedding dress is
00:41certainly no exception. She stars alongside the equally dreamy Josh Duhamel as Tom and
00:48plays Darcy, a bride who tries to navigate her destination wedding after it's hijacked.
01:06Although her dress is essentially trashed in the end, it starts out beautiful. It's
01:12an off-the-shoulder gown with a flowy skirt and sleeves, finished off with a gold belt.
01:18All her simple hairdo allows the breathtaking garment to take centre stage.
01:24We wouldn't want to have such a chaotic wedding, but we'd never say no to donning this number.
01:38Number 29, Ready or Not
01:48This isn't a feel-good rom-com by any stretch, but that doesn't mean it can't feature a dreamy
01:54wedding dress. As Grace spends her wedding night literally fighting for her life, she
02:00manages to survive against all odds. Possibly the most impressive part is how she does it
02:06all in her wedding dress. She dons a long-sleeve, high-collared lace bodice piece with a belt
02:18and a tall skirt, looking absolutely regal and badass at the same time. While the dress
02:24takes on a dark red tinge by the end, it still manages to stay absolutely stunning.
02:32Number 28, Aladdin
02:43As great as the animated Aladdin wedding is in the 1996 sequel, the live-action one is
02:49especially memorable. We know the story of the title character meeting and wooing Jasmine,
02:55but that doesn't mean we can't still be wowed. The pair get married by the end of the 2019 movie,
03:09and the princess chooses one heck of a dress for the occasion. She rocks a beautiful gown
03:16covered in jewels with elements of her signature bluish teal seen throughout. Not only is it regal
03:24and stylish, it's also perfectly suited to the character. That's what really allows it to come
03:30to life, and the end result is magic. Number 27, Sweet Home Alabama
03:43Rom-coms featuring Reese Witherspoon immediately get our attention. Throw Josh Lucas and Patrick
03:50Dempsey into the mix, and we know we're about to have a good time. Case in point, Sweet Home
03:56Alabama. Sure, the main focus is the love triangle between Melanie, her fiancé Andrew,
04:08and her estranged husband Jake, but her wedding dress manages to stand
04:14out thanks to how simple and beautiful it is.
04:28It has small cap sleeves and a sleek form-fitting design, complete with a birdcage veil. You can see
04:35the Alabama and New York styles blending together seamlessly, making it the perfect garment for
04:42Witherspoon's character. It may have first graced our screens decades ago, but we'd still wear this
04:48dress at a backyard wedding today. Number 26,
05:04Pie Society. There's no look that Grace Kelly can't pull off, and there are a ton of gorgeous
05:17examples throughout this musical rom-com. Nearly half a century later, the one she wears when she
05:24walks down the aisle continues to stick out. Her T-length dress is adorned with
05:34flower details, with a small bouquet sitting on the band around her waist. She takes the outfit to
05:41the next level with accessories, including subtle heels, delicate gloves, and a hat that's extravagant
05:49and suits her perfectly at this moment. Pie Society is the final film Grace Kelly physically
05:56appeared in before becoming a real-life princess, so we think she definitely went out with a bang.
06:05Number 25, On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Wedding dresses in the 1960s were often
06:17conservative, with simple designs and delicate accessories, so this look was certainly ahead of
06:23its time. In this James Bond flick, Diana Rigg is Tracy, who eventually becomes Bond's bride.
06:35She's someone who operates against the grain, and this is reflected in her personal style.
06:42To say we're obsessed with what she wears to her wedding would be an understatement.
06:54Her hair is curled in an updo, and she stuns in a semi-see-through flower-patterned jumpsuit,
07:02which she pairs with a cape-like jacket. It's a bold, boho look that we would totally
07:09rock today, and we're wondering why there aren't more wedding jumpsuits featured in big movies.
07:16Number 24, Enchanted. Early on in Enchanted, Giselle is set to marry a prince. Though
07:36things take several unexpected turns, her dress for the occasion is absolutely picturesque. It's
07:43the sort of ensemble so many of us picture wearing when we think of fairytale weddings growing up.
07:56The sleeves are larger than life, the skirt is a textured, poofy dream, and the tiara
08:02is utterly perfect. These details are particularly outstanding to see in live action.
08:13It's a big gown in a lot of ways, yes, but in the absolute best, most fun way possible.
08:27The fact that Giselle manages to make it look somewhat elegant while crawling out of a New York
08:33City manhole cover tells you everything you need to know. That's iconic stuff.
08:43Number 23, Fifty Shades Freed.
08:52While we wondered whether Anastasia would meet Christian at the end of the aisle,
08:57we were so excited to see what she would wear after she said yes, considering their relationship.
09:04Her dress is surprisingly tame, yet it still suits her personality and aesthetic very well.
09:14She ties her hair back into a sleek, understated bun, giving the lacy gown,
09:26with its beautiful long sleeves and off-the-shoulder neckline, the spotlight. It's an
09:32undeniably timeless ensemble that matches the elegance of the couple's lavish lifestyle.
09:39Dakota Johnson, of course, wears it beautifully like only she could.
09:49Number 22, Camelot. Camelot premiered decades ago, and the story is set in medieval times.
09:56The wedding dress featured in it, however, holds up, which is how you know it's truly classic.
10:09Though King Arthur's marriage to Guinevere is arranged, she dresses to the nines for their
10:15wedding. Her long-sleeved dress has a widely rounded neckline and a dreamy long train,
10:21while the details adorning the garment are mesmerising.
10:25It's a truly regal gown, perfect for the time period and the character. It also wouldn't look
10:43totally out of place on a 21st century bride going for an all-vintage look.
10:49Number 21, Ever After. Cinderella pretty much always dons beautiful dresses,
10:58no matter what version of the story you're watching. Ever After keeps up the tradition
11:04in a unique fashion. Danielle, who's under the strict thumb of her stepfamily,
11:17falls in love with Prince Henry. One of the stops on their tumultuous road to happily ever after
11:23is the ball, at which she arrives in a show-stopping piece originally meant for her
11:29own nuptials, her mother's own wedding gown. It's not the famous Cinderella blue we're used
11:35to seeing at this event, but that's part of why it's so unforgettable.
11:40Not only is it a piece of her family's legacy, the garment, with its long sleeves,
11:51embellishments and off-the-shoulder neckline, is quintessentially Danielle. The shoes are
11:57also fit for the occasion. The wings don't hurt, either. It's royally glamorous.
12:04Number 20, Runaway Bride. Many wedding-themed movies centre around one climactic ceremony,
12:16but that idea doesn't sit well with the flighty Maggie Carpenter,
12:21played by Julia Roberts in this screwball rom-com.
12:25Sure, Roberts looked gorgeous a decade earlier in Steel Magnolias,
12:37but the dresses featured at the beginning and end of Runaway Bride are just something else.
12:44The first one we glimpse has heaps of tulle and a long veil that makes Maggie's escape
12:56on horseback all the more astonishing. Her final wedding gown, meanwhile, is downright
13:02angelic and represents a happier frontier in her romantic life as she weds Richard Gere's Ike.
13:10The portrait neckline and colourful bouquet don't hurt, either.
13:21Number 19, Nanny McPhee. When she arrives at Cedric Brown's home, this family's eponymous nanny
13:29doesn't exactly look like a fairy godmother, but she definitely works magic on the widower's chaotic
13:37brood. Besides taming seven children, she also makes last-minute wedding planning look easy.
14:07In a flash, scullery maid Evangeline's frumpy blue outfit is transformed into a chic white gown.
14:15The lacy garment is sophisticated, regal, and just insanely pleasant to look at,
14:21but it also represents a much-deserved moment of glamour for an underdog character.
14:28Let's just say the donkey isn't the only one holding back tears when the bride lifts her veil.
14:37Number 18, Mamma Mia! This jukebox musical has a lot to offer, from its gorgeous views
14:51of coastal Greece to its joyous, ABBA-filled soundtrack. But the movie's climactic wedding
14:57shouldn't be forgotten, either. Sure, Sophie Sheridan rainchecks her actual marriage. However,
15:14she still makes our dreams of a destination wedding come to life. Her gown and her hairpieces
15:21take center stage during the emotional, Slipping Through My Fingers.
15:38Then, Amanda Seyfried is goddess-like and positively radiant as she makes her way to
15:44the chapel, veil, floral crown, and all. If the look weren't already boho-chic enough,
15:50the bride is actually barefoot during the ceremony.
16:02Number 17, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1
16:07Does Fleur Delacour and Bill Weasley's wedding end up being the happiest occasion
16:12we've ever witnessed? That would be a resounding no.
16:20However, that doesn't detract from the beautiful fashion on display. Lacy phoenixes decorate Fleur's
16:34bodice, while the bottom half of the garments is an explosion of frilly goodness. The dramatic
16:40garment strikes the perfect balance between the wizarding world's old-fashioned aesthetic
16:46and modern tastes. In fact, it bears similarities to a so-called peacock dress,
16:51shown in 2008 by Alexander McQueen. Sure, Death Eaters crash the reception,
16:58but even Voldemort himself can't take away from how stunning the bride looks.
17:04Number 16, The Young Victoria
17:17The costume designers for this film sure had a lot to live up to, but they didn't disappoint.
17:24Queen Victoria's wedding dress is possibly the most iconic bridal gown of all time. She's often
17:31cited as the one who started the modern tradition of brides wearing white on their big day,
17:37although she technically wasn't the first royal to be wed in white.
17:53For the film, starring Emily Blunt, the designers were heavily inspired by the real-life dress,
17:59but didn't recreate it identically. They kept the look a little more fresh
18:04and palatable for modern audiences, and it was marvellous.
18:11Number 15, Marie Antoinette
18:20Sofia Coppola's 2006 historical drama was every fashion lover's dream. The pastel-hued
18:28reverie taking place at the Palace of Versailles left viewers drooling over the beautifully
18:34elaborate gowns. The real Marie Antoinette was only a teen when she married into French royalty,
18:41and though the real gown no longer exists, historians have a good idea of what it would
18:47have looked like. Milena Cananero designed the flawless movie version, which fit the description
18:53of being made with silver cloth with a hoop skirt, with the bride highly adorned in ribbons
18:59and embellishments.
19:07Number 14, Coming to America
19:15In terms of over-the-top wedding gowns, the 80s definitely did it best. While this movie
19:21gown didn't feature the giant puff sleeves that the era is known for, it did have a puffed veil
19:27and an epic train. This rosy-hued outfit is impressive, and especially memorable because
19:34of the pivotal role that the wedding scene played in the film. Prince Hakeem thinks that the woman
19:40he has been arranged to marry is walking down the aisle towards him, but when he lifts her veil,
19:45it's actually Lisa McDowell, his true love.
19:51Number 13, The Princess Bride
20:03While this classic romantic comedy was made in the 80s, it was set in the Renaissance era,
20:09and Princess Buttercup's dress reflects the bridal fashion of the times. While the farcical film
20:15doesn't spend much time on historical detail, the dress is one thing that was intended to
20:21be accurate. Costume designer Phyllis Dalton created this empire waist dress with dramatic
20:27over-sleeves. The material is a silvery blue tone and features corset lacing in front. The gown is
20:35so popular that some fans have tried to recreate it for their own nuptials, and it's easy to see why.
20:46Number 12, Bridesmaids
20:51Maya Rudolph's character wears two hard-to-forget gowns in the 2011 movie Bridesmaids, and neither
21:00is remembered for how great it looked. The first dress is worn during what is debatably
21:06the film's most memorable and most disturbing scene. The girls get food poisoning while trying
21:13on dresses at a bridal boutique, and carnage and hilarity ensues. Let's just say that
21:20Lillian Donovan needs a new dress afterwards. Meanwhile, the garment that she ultimately wears
21:30for her wedding is amazingly ornate, and was modeled after the elaborate final gowns that
21:36designers often send down the runways. Number 11, Pirates of the Caribbean – Dead Man's Chest
21:45Kira Knightley is known for wearing gorgeous corseted ballgowns in many of the period pieces
21:56she's acted in, and the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is no exception. Her character,
22:02Elizabeth Swann, has the opportunity to sport many beautiful dresses throughout the series,
22:08but by far the most incredible is her wedding dress in the second installment,
22:14Dead Man's Chest. Her wedding to Will Turner may have been rudely interrupted,
22:19but at least we got a chance to see this gold-toned concoction before it ended up
22:25at the bottom of the sea. Number 10, Cinderella
22:32Costume designer Sandy Powell was the mastermind behind this jaw-dropping frock.
22:48She didn't try to top the character's vibrant blue ballgown,
22:52instead opting for a sleek yet epic garment. The dress may look understated by comparison,
22:59but don't be fooled. It required some 550 hours of work, thanks in part to the hand-painted flower
23:08detailing. The wondrous garment actually caught on fire during a photoshoot, but you'd never know
23:14from its immaculate appearance in the film. Cinderella is one of the ultimate rags-to-riches
23:24tales, so her wedding look is of the utmost importance. Thankfully, this retelling more
23:31than nails it. Number 9, Star Wars Episode II, Attack of the Clones
23:42A movie with lightsabers, Death Stars, and...a stunning wedding dress? Sure enough, Luke and
23:49Leia's mom sports an absolutely breathtaking garment on the occasion of her marriage.
24:02It isn't uncommon to see lace in bridal fashion, though it's not always used so beautifully.
24:08The extra-intricate embroidery truly takes Senator Padme Amidala's look to the next level. We only
24:15get to see a few moments of the ultra-romantic nuptials. However, the sun-dappled sequence
24:21perfectly highlights Trisha Figger's exquisite design.
24:29The senator may be tying the knot with the future Darth Vader,
24:32but at least she looks great while doing so.
24:45Number 8, Crazy Rich Asians
24:48It's right there in the title. Luxury is at the heart of this blockbuster rom-com.
25:02Rachel Chu's whirlwind Singapore trip has its low points, but there's no denying that Colin
25:07and Araminta's wedding is a showstopper. Naturally, the star is the bride's outfit,
25:13actually not a dress but a majestic jumpsuit and skirt combo.
25:32With an estimated several thousand Swarovski crystals adorning the garment,
25:37actress Sonoya Mizuno is glowing. Of course, the embroidered ensemble isn't the only epic
25:44aspect of the ceremony, but it certainly complements romantic details like a flooded
25:50aisle and faux fireflies held aloft by the guests.
26:05Number 7, Sex and the City
26:08The creators behind the Sex and the City movie probably knew that no matter what dress they
26:17chose for Carrie's ill-fated wedding to Mr. Big, it would be hotly contested among fans.
26:24They remedied this by having the famous fashionista try on multiple dresses for a
26:29vogue bridal shoot, eventually settling on a showstopping Vivienne Westwood creation
26:35for her big day. The imposing high-fashion sculptural gown sadly didn't make it down
26:40the aisle, but in the end we love the timeless white suit that Carrie wore
26:45for her casual city hall wedding towards the end of the film.
26:58Number 6, Bride Wars
27:00Vera Wang is undoubtedly one of the most legendary designers of coveted bridal wear,
27:06so who better to dream up the wedding gowns for the warring women
27:09at the center of this romantic black comedy?
27:12I should probably keep looking.
27:14Do you think there is something better than Vera Wang? I'm sorry,
27:17do they keep that next to the something that is better than chocolate?
27:20Liv and Emma are longtime BFFs with contrasting personalities and careers.
27:26Their wardrobes reflect their unique sensibilities,
27:29and this extends to the gowns they sport on the day they're both supposed to get married.
27:35As a high-powered lawyer, Kate Hudson's character Liv rocks a loud,
27:39full silhouette with a big, tall skirt. Meanwhile, Anne Hathaway's Emma,
27:44a schoolteacher, sports a more understated taffeta dress,
27:48though she ultimately cancels her nuptials.
27:51We're different. We want different things.
27:54Although the looks are remarkably different,
27:57we can all agree that both women looked insanely gorgeous.
28:13Number 5, The Twilight Saga – Breaking Dawn Part 1
28:18Sure, members of Team Jacob did not exactly rejoice during Bella and Edward's nuptials,
28:24but even the couple's detractors can't deny how incredible the Twilight Saga heroine looks.
28:31You ready?
28:39Just don't let me fall, Dad.
28:42Never.
28:43Designer Carolina Herrera's team spent more than six months creating the garment,
28:48and let's just say their efforts weren't for nothing. The figure-hugging dress
28:53is stunning from the front, but a lace-back cutout makes it even more special.
29:05According to Herrera, star Kristen Stewart was moved upon trying the gown on for the first time.
29:12Based on its sheer elegance and the milestone it represents for Bella, we don't blame her.
29:24Number 4, The Princess Diaries 2 – Royal Engagement
29:29They grow up so fast.
29:32I'm getting married today.
29:35She's getting married today, Maurice.
29:37Far from the dorky high schooler we got to know in the first Princess Diaries film,
29:42Mia Thermopolis is searching for a royal husband in the sequel. On her wedding day,
29:48she looks every bit like royalty in a truly outstanding ensemble. Beautiful lace detailing
29:55encompasses the dress's neckline, sleeves, and bodice, while a tiara sits atop Mia's head.
30:02Despite her traditional attire, our heroine isn't afraid to rock the boat at the ceremony.
30:08In fact, she calls off her nuptials and delivers an epic speech in the gown.
30:13A few moments ago, I realized the only reason I was getting married was because of a law,
30:19and that didn't seem like a good enough reason. So, I won't be getting married today.
30:25Gorgeous bridal wear is great,
30:27but denouncing outdated laws in front of members of parliament, that is even better.
30:33I stand here, ready to take my place as your queen, without a husband.
30:48Number 3, The Hunger Games – Catching Fire
30:56There's nothing more daunting than creating a movie costume for an iconic outfit from a book.
31:09Fans already have high expectations based on what they imagined,
31:13so getting every detail right is key.
31:17The final gown featured in Catching Fire was reminiscent of a creation by Alexander McQueen,
31:23but in fact, it was a collaboration between costume designer Trish Somerville
31:27and Indonesian designer Tex Averio.
31:32The frothy feather design is the perfect dramatic piece for one of the pivotal moments
31:37in The Hunger Games story. It's so pretty that we don't want to watch it burn.
31:54Number 2, Funny Face
32:00Today, Audrey Hepburn is an icon for old Hollywood fashion,
32:05and one of the roles that cemented her title was 1957's Funny Face.
32:10In the film, where Hepburn becomes a high-fashion model,
32:13she shows off many stunning outfits by Hubert de Givenchy,
32:18but the crowning glory is, of course, the wedding dress.
32:21While the design may look retro to our eyes, at the time, it was actually strikingly modern.
32:27The T-length ballerina-style gown may have only been used for a fashion shoot
32:32and not an actual wedding, but that doesn't make it any less lovely.

32:56Number 1, The Sound of Music
33:04Maria wasn't exactly known for being fashion-forward,
33:09but her wedding gown still takes our breath away.
33:12The demure and elegant dress perfectly suited her character.
33:19Interestingly, because the producers of The Sound of Music had no idea how beloved their film would
33:32become, all of the costumes used during shooting were returned to a movie costume rental company.
33:38So Maria's famous wedding gown was actually worn for other productions in later years,
33:44and sadly, was subject to alterations, as well as wear and tear. In 2013, however,
33:51the dress was put up for auction, with the winning bid bringing in over $23,000.
34:03Which wedding dress would you wear down the aisle? Let us know in the comments.
