00:00If it was true then, why wouldn't it be true now?
00:04You need only the courage to follow your heart.
00:09Welcome to MissMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the best tributes and toasts from movie weddings,
00:14engagement parties, and rehearsal dinners.
00:17We're all different, but in the end, we're all fruit.
00:24With so many weddings in one movie, you know one of them has to include a great speech.
00:36We have to shout out the unintentionally hilarious tribute from Wedding No. 2's best man.
00:41But our favourite speech in this classic rom-com goes to Charles, played by Hugh Grant,
00:59at his most charmingly awkward.
01:01The famously self-deprecating actor pokes fun at the groom, his friends, and of course himself,
01:07in this funny but sweet toast.
01:11He also draws a lot of laughs and a few horrified looks from the attendees.
01:26We can understand why this committed bachelor caught Andy McDowall's eye.
01:31I'm bewildered awe of anyone who makes this kind of commitment that Angus and Laura have made today.
01:37I know I couldn't do it, and I think it's wonderful they can.
01:44So anyway, back to Angus and those sheep.
01:46No. 9, Dean's Rehearsal Dinner Toast, Serendipity
01:50When someone tries to be funny while giving a toast, they often just end up sounding awkward,
01:54or getting way too personal.
01:56In this scene, Jeremy Piven's character actually manages that balancing act perfectly.
02:00Everything feels great, stars are aligned, body and spirit are in balance.
02:05For my friend Jonathan Trager, that person was me.
02:12He delivers plenty of jokes, but instead of going after the bride or embarrassing the couple,
02:17he makes fun of himself and his longtime friendship with the groom.
02:21Dean shows how well he knows Jonathan while also celebrating his friendship with Hallie.
02:25He had found her, the woman he was meant to be with.
02:28And if anyone is qualified to know when he met his soulmate, it would be me, his first wife.
02:35He's not afraid to be a little goofy, but he doesn't get obnoxious.
02:39It's the type of speech you'd hope for from a true best friend.
02:42I'll tell you what, I'll tell you something, my friends, if I had to lose Johnny to anyone,
02:46I can't imagine a more perfect woman than Hallie.
02:50Cheers to both of you.
02:538. A Sister's Poetic Tribute – In Her Shoes
02:56Maggie and Rose might be siblings, but they couldn't be more different.
02:59Maggie can't hold down a job and takes advantage of Rose's generosity.
03:03After a major argument, the two stop speaking and go their separate ways.
03:11Get out of my life!
03:15But thanks to their loving grandmother, they reconcile just before Rose's wedding.
03:19During the ceremony, Maggie surprises Rose with a heartfelt reading of an E.E. Cummings poem.
03:25I fear no fate, for you are my fate, my sweet.
03:31I want no world, for beautiful you are my world, my true.
03:37The moment is particularly significant since Maggie once had trouble reading because of her dyslexia.
03:42It's a beautiful ending to a poignant story about the love between sisters.
03:47It's the wonder that's keeping the stars apart.
03:54I carry your heart.
03:577. The Brothers' Drunken Rant – The Wedding Singer
04:00It's an Adam Sandler comedy, so you know someone is going to make a fool of themselves at some point.
04:06Singer Robbie takes a break from his set so the groom's brother David can make a toast.
04:10When my brother, Harold, asked me to be the best man at his wedding, I was like,
04:15of course, man, because you've always been there for me.
04:21Unfortunately, David is pretty intoxicated, and he seizes the opportunity to air some grievances with his family.
04:27Because Harold, you know, he's always been the dependable one, and I've always been the screwed up one. Right, Dad?
04:37Why can't you be more like your brother?
04:39Robbie wisely steps in before David can do too much damage.
04:43The movie follows up this scene with another hilariously depressing rant from Robbie himself,
04:47who's just been left at the altar by his fiancée.
04:51You know, it's funny, some of us will never ever find true love.
04:55Like, take for instance, me.
05:00And I'm pretty sure that guy right there.
05:04We can't blame him for being heartbroken, but we're glad real-life weddings don't usually feature so much drama.
05:10Hey, you doing good?
05:12Yeah, sounds good?
05:13Yeah.
05:14Let's get some of the best guitar player in the world.
05:16Self-taught, no lessons, thank you very much.
05:19Top.
05:20Alright.
05:21You'll be divorced in a year.
05:236. Dueling Engagement Party Speeches
05:26Bridesmaids.
05:27How about two toasts for the price of one?
05:30Where Maid of Honor Annie meets the bride's gorgeous new friend Helen, it's the start of a fierce rivalry.
05:35At the engagement party, Annie gives a short but sincere tribute to her best friend,
05:40which Helen follows up with a slightly more impressive one.
05:55Not to be outdone, Annie reclaims the microphone, kicking off a battle of speeches.
05:59After Helen shares a beautiful saying in Thai, Annie breaks out the high school Spanish,
06:04which she totally mangles.
06:16The whole thing ends in an awkward singing duet that leaves the entire party scratching their heads.
06:21That's what friends are for.
06:24In good times and bad times, I'll be on your side forevermore.
06:325. Harper's Heartfelt Speech
06:35The Best Man
06:36By the time his wedding rolls around, Lance isn't on great terms with his best man, Harper.
06:40He just found out that his fiancé cheated on him with Harper years ago,
06:44as revenge for Lance constantly screwing around.
06:47Sure, Brian meant the world to her, but she wasn't going to play the fool any longer.
06:52She wanted revenge.
06:55It even escalates to a fistfight right before the big day.
06:59Harper manages to convince Lance not to call off the ceremony,
07:02though the groom still isn't happy with his friend.
07:04At the reception, Harper gives an earnest toast to the couple,
07:07reminding them that what happened in the past is less important than the love they have now.
07:12I have learned the importance of seizing the moment.
07:18Because you can't go back.
07:22You can never go back. You have to live for today.
07:25It earns back Lance's respect and helps Harper realise that it's time to commit to his own girlfriend.
07:31You just have to step out on faith.
07:36And believe that what you have built together is worth preserving.
07:434. Samantha's Perfect Toast
07:46Sex and the City
07:47There's a reason Samantha was so many people's favourite character in the series.
07:51As a devoted friend, she decides not to share her personal stories about Carrie at the rehearsal dinner.
07:56I know it's tradition at the rehearsal dinner for the maid of honour to reveal embarrassing things about Clyde.
08:05But in our group, we never kiss in town.
08:10Instead, she gives an eloquent toast to Mr. Big.
08:13She acknowledges the group's concerns about the on-again-off-again relationship,
08:16but ultimately ends with a touching remark about their love.
08:19There were times when we had our doubts about this gorgeous man.
08:24But after careful observation over the last hundred years, my doubts are over.
08:30And in true Samantha fashion, she takes zero crap from a rude heckler who keeps interrupting her.
08:36We'd all be lucky to have a friend like Samantha at our wedding parties and in our lives.
08:41So here's to the groom.
08:44A man who finally got carried away.
08:503. A Long Ceremony
08:52The Princess Bride
08:53This might be the most famous movie wedding speech ever,
08:57although most people probably wouldn't want to hear it at their own wedding.
09:10As the crowd gathers for Prince Humperdinck's marriage to Buttercup,
09:14a man credited only as the impressive clergyman enters, looking solemn.
09:19A hush falls over the group, and then Peter Cook delivers the most perfectly timed laugh line in the history of cinema.
09:28Marriage is what brings us together today.
09:34He follows this with a prolonged sermon on true love, oblivious to the commotion outside,
09:39and the bride's obvious distress.
09:41What else do we need to say? There's a reason this movie is one of the all-time classics.
09:45And to you, Princess Buttercup.
09:48Man and wife. Say man and wife.
09:51Man and wife.
09:53Escort the bride to the honeymoon suite. I'll be there shortly.
09:582. Sophie's Letter
10:00Letters to Juliet
10:01Decades ago, a young woman named Claire left a letter in an Italian courtyard,
10:06hoping fate would help her decide whether to run away with the young man she loved.
10:10Fifty years later, Sophie finds the letter and answers it, encouraging Claire to pursue her lost love.
10:16What were you thinking?
10:20I was thinking that she deserved an answer.
10:23Yeah, fifty years ago maybe, not now.
10:25I'm sorry, I didn't know true love had an expiration date.
10:28Miraculously, Claire and the man reunite and decide to spend their remaining years together.
10:33At their wedding, Claire reads Sophie's reply, an inspiring message about taking chance and following your heart.
10:39I don't know how your story ended, but if what you felt then was true love, then it's never too late.
10:48The scene becomes even more romantic when you know that the man sitting next to Vanessa Redgrave is her real-life husband.
10:54Franco Nero

11:211. Mr. Portakalos' Touching Speech – My Big Fat Greek Wedding
11:27Ian and Tula's engagement doesn't go totally smoothly.
11:30Tula's parents aren't happy that Ian isn't Greek.
11:33Ian's parents have a hard time fitting in with Tula's huge, gregarious family.
11:38It's delicious.
11:48But at the wedding, Tula's father addresses the guests and shows that he's finally accepted his son-in-law.
11:54Although Mr. Portakalos gets some unintended laughs from the audience,
11:58his love for his daughter and the newest member of his family is clear.
12:02The root of the word miller is a Greek word.
12:06And miller comes from the Greek word milo, which means apple, so there you go.
12:16It's the perfect wedding speech. Funny, sincere, heartwarming, and best of all, short.
12:22We have apple and orange.
12:26And we're all different, but in the end, we're all fruit.
12:36Any dads who might someday want to speak at their own kid's ceremony can take a lesson from My Big Fat Greek Wedding.
12:43Which wedding speech brought a tear to your eye? Let us know in the comments.
