00:00Hi there. Thank you all so much for coming out.
00:04Welcome to MissMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the most beautiful
00:08and the most terrible wedding gowns in film. Let's get into the good,
00:11the bad, and the ugly.
00:13Really? A wedding dress?
00:16Snow made me wear it.
00:18Number 5. Dated. Betsy's Dress.
00:21Betsy's Wedding.
00:22Oh, that's beautiful on you. Oh, isn't she beautiful?
00:27No!
00:29For a movie all about Eddie Hopper's daughter, Betsy getting married,
00:32you would think her wedding gown would be at least impressive. As it is,
00:36this ruffled dress is unsightly, and the choice of an asymmetrical hemline only made matters worse.
00:42You, you go ahead. You go for it.
00:47Oh, yeah. Maybe I better not watch this.
00:50As a cherry on top of this bad cake, Betsy wears a white top hat,
00:54suitable only for a backup dancer, to an Irving Berlin number performed by Fred Astaire. At least
01:00there is a lack of typically 80s muttonchop sleeves, with the designer opting for a sweetheart
01:06neckline. Even so, it's not a good look.
01:09You know, Connie took one look at me today in my wedding dress,
01:11and she starts crying hysterically. I mean, what is that?
01:14I don't know. You don't look that bad.
01:16Thanks.
01:17Number 5. Classic. Buttercup's Wedding Dress.
01:20The Princess Bride.
01:21Modern interpretations of medieval dresses can be very hit-and-miss.
01:24Fortunately, this classic 80s film gets many things right, including its costume design.
01:29You don't seem excited, my little muffin.
01:33Should I be?
01:34Brides often are, I'm told.
01:35Buttercup's dress is particularly memorable. Even her soft rose wedding dress worn in her
01:40nightmare is lovely. But her actual dress, when she is forced to wed the odious Prince Humperdink,
01:45is even more striking. Its dreamy soft blue color compliments Robin Wright's blonde hair,
01:51and the high waistline flatters her slim form.
01:53Have you the wind?
01:57Here comes my Wesley now.
01:58It is light, elegant, and faithful to medieval fashion,
02:02while conforming to modern aesthetic tastes. It would be a pity to damage such a perfect dress.
02:07There's a shortage of perfect breasts in this world. It would be a pity to damage yours.
02:11Number 4. Dated. Joy's Dress. What Happens in Vegas.
02:15This rom-com is not what you would call great, or even good. And granted,
02:20this is supposed to be a Las Vegas wedding by two drunken strangers, Joy and Jack.
02:24Is there any part of the night, I don't know, maybe say the part where I was about to marry
02:28the rebound guy that you thought, hey, oh my god, this is a really good time for an intervention.
02:33Even so, the costume designers for this film really outdid themselves in the grubbiness and
02:38tastelessness of Joy's wedding dress. This dress resembles more of an off-white,
02:42thigh-length potato sack than a gown.
02:44Jack, could you put the ring upon her finger?
02:46Oh, oh, oh, that was it!
02:51The cheap, fake pearl necklace is not helping either. It's more like a costume of a wedding
02:56dress than anything else. The whole film follows Joy and Jack's attempts to divorce,
03:00deeply regretting their drunken Las Vegas wedding. And that dress, no doubt.
03:04Before, or should I say, if I ever allow either of you out of this marriage, I'm going to make
03:10sure that you try everything, and I do mean everything, first, to make it work.
03:15Number four, classic, Araminta Lee's dress, Crazy Rich Asians. You can count on the wealthy
03:20Asians in this film to throw an extravagant but beautiful wedding. The film follows Rachel Chu
03:26as she attends the wedding of her boyfriend's best friend, Colin.
03:29A toast to married life!
03:32Not yet, not yet, too early.
03:34This time next week, guys.
03:36Woo-hoo!
03:37The wedding itself is gorgeous, but Colin's fiancée Araminta's dress is truly awe-inspiring.
03:43This gown, with its glittering crystal bodice and tiered body, gives an almost swan-like effect.
03:58Costume designer Mary E. Vogt agreed with the director to show off more of actress
04:03Sonoya Mizuno's figure, and even made the dress completely waterproof so that
04:08Mizuno could walk down the river aisle. The results are stunning.
04:12Is this a church or a paddy field?
04:14They spent $40 million on the wedding.
04:17Number three, dated, Marie's wedding dress, When Harry Met Sally.
04:21Harry and Sally don't have a good time at the wedding of their friends, Marie and Jess.
04:25In fact, they spend both of the wedding and reception chiefly arguing with each other.
04:29But Marie's dress was a definite disappointment.
04:33Is Harry bringing anyone to the wedding?
04:40I don't think so.
04:41While the silhouette is not bad, the off-shoulder neckline with the depressed puffy sleeves
04:46is uninspiring and generic. But it's the chalice waistline
04:50that turns this dress from boring to truly off-putting.
04:54Everybody, could I have your attention, please? I'd like to propose a toast to Harry and Sally.
05:00All in all, it feels more like a parody of a wedding gown than an actual gown.
05:05No doubt that was the intended effect in this Nora Ephron comedy, but it's still not ideal.
05:10Oh, Marie. Tell the truth. It's just beautiful.
05:18Number three, classic, Maria's wedding dress, The Sound of Music.
05:22While we had a problem with Marie, we have no such problem with Maria.
05:26This classic musical epic is highly influential in many ways,
05:30and its costume design definitely merits appreciation.
05:33In the Act 1 finale in particular, Maria finally marries Captain George Von Trapp
05:38in a grand ceremony and an even grander dress. Created by costume designer Dorothy Jeakins,
05:44this dress was made out of silk, with a beautiful train, high collar, and fitted bodice.
05:49Oh, how do you sell a woman like Maria? How do you hold a woman in your hand?
06:01Jeakins even got an Academy Award nomination for her work. Since then,
06:05Maria's dress has become one of the most iconic wedding dresses in film history,
06:09and it's richly deserved.
06:19Number two, dated, Margaret's dress, The Proposal.
06:23There are few redeemable qualities about this particular wedding gown.
06:26About to be deported to Canada, book editor-in-chief Margaret
06:30proposes to her assistant to get that much-needed green card.
06:33And because I didn't want to leave this wonderful country of yours,
06:37I forced Andrew here to marry me.
06:40Margaret, stop it.
06:41Hence, we get a classy but strictly by-the-book wedding. Looking more like a suit than a dress,
06:46this outfit is undoubtedly meant to reflect Margaret's high-powered corporate personality.
06:52We are gathered here today to give thanks and to celebrate one of life's greatest moments.
07:02As it is, though, the gown is flat, too tight, and with an unflattering high neck.
07:07It's the type of thing you'd expect a villain from a sci-fi movie to wear,
07:11not so much the lead of a rom-com.
07:13Turns out it's not easy to ruin someone's life once you find out how wonderful they are.
07:17Number two, classic, Katniss' wedding dress, The Hunger Games' Catching Fire.
07:21You don't expect beautiful or elegant costume design from sci-fi films,
07:26especially dystopian ones. So The Hunger Games' costume designers giving Jennifer Lawrence a
07:30beautiful wedding dress for her quarter-quel interview was more than a pleasant surprise.
07:35Oh, Katniss. Oh, you would have been the most beautiful bride.
07:44Trish Somerville worked with Indonesian designer Tex Severio to create Katniss' dress,
07:49meant to reference her PR romance with Peter Malarg.
07:53The result is a stunning gown with organza corset.
07:56I love it! I love it! Don't you love it, Trish? It's incredible, it's so gorgeous!
08:01Will you do us the honor, please? Please? Please?
08:04The dress also serves to foreshadow Katniss' role as the Mockingjay,
08:08a revolutionary figurehead, even turning teal dark when burned.
08:13And to think, this isn't even for an actual wedding.
08:16Your stylist certainly has outdone himself this time, hasn't he?
08:20What theatricality! Sit down! Take a bow!
08:25Number 1. Dated, Christabel's Dress, The Hottie and the Nottie
08:29This Paris Hilton rom-com is a disaster in more ways than one.
08:32Wow, okay, flying dreams. Well, I, for one, love flying dreams.
08:37A shallow vehicle for Paris Hilton's beauty should, in theory, lead to some impressive
08:42costume design, if nothing else. But Hilton's party dress for her character Christabel
08:47is nothing less than ugly.
08:50Oops! Don't worry, it wasn't a snowy one. I can tell by the way they sound.
08:57Like the other awful wedding gowns, this one looks like it's made out of cheap material and
09:01fake satin, and those puffy sleeves harken back to the 80s. Spilling red wine on it,
09:06frankly, hardly made it worse, and perhaps even made it better.
09:10I think I read somewhere about white wine getting out red wine.
09:14Okay, I don't know if that…
09:17Oops!
09:18It's a fright alright, and thank goodness this wasn't for an actual wedding.

09:391. Classic, Bella's Dress, The Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn Part 1
09:44Twilight fans have been eagerly awaiting Bella in Edward's wedding,
09:47as well as Bella's eventual transformation into a vampire.
09:56Fortunately, the penultimate film in the franchise delivers in regard to the gown.
10:01Author Stephanie Meyer wanted costume designer Carolina Herrera to design Bella's dress,
10:06and she got her. Taking over six months to make, the final result is a beautiful satin gown with
10:12a laced back and V-neckline. It won not only on Meyer's approval, but Kristen Stewart's. It's
10:27classy, elegant, and suits Bella's character well. Much like Bella and Edward, the dress
10:32is the perfect marriage between modern taste and classic vintage style.
10:36With Bella, I feel like I can finally begin.
10:44Which other movie wedding dress had you in awe? And which ones had your jaw dropping in horror?
