00:00 On Monday, the Philadelphia 76ers fired head coach Brett Brown following the
00:04 team's elimination from the 2020 NBA playoffs. According to a report from ESPN's
00:09 AJ Wojnarowski, other playoff assistant Tyronn Lue is a leading candidate to take
00:14 over Brown's old role. In an ESPN story, Wojnarowski notes that Philadelphia's
00:19 plan will focus on Lue and is expected to be mutual interest between the two
00:23 parties. Lue, who is currently an assistant on Doc Rivers' coaching staff, already has
00:27 plenty of postseason experience. He won a title with the Cleveland Cavaliers in
00:31 2016 and brought the team to the NBA Finals the two seasons that followed
00:35 before he was fired shortly after the beginning of the 2018-2019 NBA season.
00:40 Lue joined LA's coaching staff last summer, though his future with the team was
00:44 always thought to be short-term. Rivers has had high praise for Lue
00:49 throughout his coaching career and was especially upset after he parted ways with the
00:52 Cavaliers. The 76ers could certainly benefit from having a new face in the
00:56 organization. The team was swept by the Boston Celtics in the first round of the
01:00 postseason, an outcome that few could have predicted given how much talent
01:03 Philadelphia has in the roster. Ben Simmons did miss the entire series
01:07 after ongoing surgery on his knee in early August, but Joel Embiid and Tobias
01:11 Harris, among others, played all four games of the series. Lue obviously has a
01:15 history of coaching all-star caliber players as well, as he coached LeBron
01:19 James and Kyrie Irving during his tenure in Cleveland. In addition to the Sixers,
01:24 the Brooklyn Nets and New Orleans Pelicans are also expected to
01:27 take a look at Lue, as both franchises recently parted ways with their head coaches as
01:31 well. If Lue does indeed leave Los Angeles, and it's looking more likely
01:36 than not at this point, he may take another piece of the Clippers organization
01:39 with him as well. Per a report from Yahoo Sports, Lue was interested in having
01:43 Chauncey Billups join his staff as an assistant, who currently serves the
01:47 team's TV analyst alongside Brian Seaman. Now, Rivers does have a talented staff
01:52 behind him, including Sam Cassell and Rex Kalanian. Assuming Lue is out after this
01:57 season, it wouldn't come as a surprise if either of those two take Lue's old spot
02:01 as top assistant on this coaching staff.
