00:00 Patrick Beverly has an unbreakable spirit. As the team arrived in Orlando
00:04 subject to a 48-hour quarantine period, Beverly was checking up on his teammates
00:08 and making sure they were all good as seven in the rooms. Reggie Jackson, one of
00:12 the team's newest members, recalled Beverly's actions during Friday's Zoom
00:15 press conference saying, "We're all locked up now in quarantine, can't leave
00:19 your room, probably two in the morning and all we get is a 'Yo! Yo!' Everybody's
00:24 like, 'What is going on?' Bev is just yelling through walls making sure
00:27 everybody is good. It's the first day, he's just checking, everybody's opening
00:31 doors and saying what's up with each other and that made, I guess, the first
00:34 part 24 hours of lockdown even better, just knowing your teammates are there with you.
00:37 That's just something very simple but the guy has constant energy, a lot of
00:41 intangibles. He's great with the team." As funny and unusual as the story sounds,
00:46 it's perfectly on-brand for Beverly. 32-year-old Garret spends a lot of his
00:49 time checking up on his teammates both on and off court, and will do just about
00:52 anything to keep that energy high and their minds right. It's difficult to measure
00:56 exactly how important his presence is with the team, but the Clippers generally
01:00 play better basketball on Beverly's on the floor. So far this season, LA has gone
01:04 37-11 when he plays and 7-9 when he's out. Last year, they lost all
01:09 four games that he missed due to injury and went 13-16 when he came off the
01:13 bench, compared to the team's 35-14 record in his 49 starts. As Jackson says,
01:18 "Beverly's quarantine/shouting ultimately isn't anything major, but it
01:21 was an action to put the team together during a time when it had to be apart. It pays
01:25 to have a teammate like that." The Clippers are gonna need him to maintain that
01:27 energy if they want this year's title. The NBA champion won't be signed for another
01:31 three months, and it won't be that easy to stay focused.
