00:00 When man eats up man, the result is population.
00:08 What is this population?
00:09 The woman goes out and eats up the man.
00:15 You have babies.
00:16 The man goes out and wants to eat up as many women as possible.
00:19 You have babies.
00:22 Right?
00:23 So, from the drive to consume, first of all, come babies when the object of consumption
00:34 is a human being.
00:36 Right?
00:37 The next object of consumption is man-made objects.
00:39 Because they too are available.
00:41 Why must I spare them?
00:44 So when man wants to consume man-made objects, the result is he guzzles up fossil fuel.
00:53 Give me more diesel, give me more petrol.
00:55 Where else would the energy come from?
00:58 I want buildings.
00:59 I want to consume and whatever you want to consume has to be firstly manufactured.
01:04 How will I manufacture it if I don't have energy?
01:07 And energy from any of the sources as we currently know is carbon intensive.
01:19 Even the so-called green energy has a strong carbon footprint when seen in totality.
01:30 So when man consumes man-made objects, again the result is more consumption and more carbon.
01:43 And then man says I will consume the natural world as well.
01:49 Why should these folks roam about happy and untouched?
01:55 Maybe they can make me happy.
01:57 How about some beef?
01:59 How about more corn?
02:04 How about turning a great banyan tree into a bonsai?
02:08 I want it in a little pot.
02:11 I will keep it in my bedroom.
02:14 Are you getting it?
02:20 How about developing a delectable waterfront by the side of a great river?
02:30 I will go there and satisfy my senses.
02:32 And what is the waterfront all about?
02:35 Tons and tons of cement.
02:43 I will consume everything.
02:47 And if you will look at these three types of consumption, you will understand what climate
02:52 change is in all its totality.
02:54 Nothing drives climate change except these three.
03:00 Man consuming man, and when I say man, I mean mankind.
03:05 It is not a gender specific thing.
03:07 When I say man consuming man, that gives birth to unsustainable populations.
03:17 When I say man consuming man-made objects, that is what is meant by, generally meant
03:24 by the level of consumption.
03:28 And when I say man consuming the natural world, that is what is meant by loss of biodiversity,
03:36 excessive fishing, extinction of species and what not.
03:45 So that is the overall framework.
03:48 You cannot look at any small part of it.
03:51 You have to go to the very basis of it.
03:54 The very basis of climate change is the constitution of man himself.
04:00 It is not a specific activity of man that is leading to climate change.
04:07 The very constitution of man is such that he is bound to destroy everything.
04:11 It is just that sometimes he calls his destruction as construction.
04:16 Real construction is something totally different.
04:21 It does not come from that line of thought which prohibits man from looking at itself.
04:26 Real construction or real creativity comes from another mind which due to the various
04:37 vicissitudes of history could never gain enough prominence or power to guide the course of
04:44 history.
04:46 That kind of mind has sometimes been found in the Orient, though it is fairly lost now.
05:02 So man as he is, is climate change.
05:08 So climate change is not merely man-made.
05:14 Climate change is man's compulsion.
05:18 Man cannot help climate change.
05:21 Man is climate change.
05:25 If you have this big a hole in your heart, what else will you do?
05:30 You will use the entire universe to plug this hole.
05:34 And if you find this planet earth too little to fill up your hole, then you will proceed
05:50 towards other planets.
05:51 Of course, man is the only animal blessed with intellect.
05:55 So you can do that.
05:57 You can do that.
05:58 You can now go and colonize Mars and you can say we have eaten away whatever there was
06:05 to be eaten on the earth.
06:08 Now it is the turn of another planet.
06:10 Gobble it up.
