00:00 Oh, you'll fall in love with him, even if he has to drill that idea into you.
00:04 Here's your look at the neck of toys, the Slumber Party Masker Retro Cloth Russ Thorn.
00:10 [music]
00:16 [crunching]
00:23 A high school student's slumber party turns terrifying
00:26 as an escaped mental patient with a drill decides to crash the evening.
00:30 Retro Cloth Russ Thorn comes in clue with both drill and knife.
00:34 Breakups can be pretty messy. If anyone should know, it's this guy.
00:37 Just before, of course, we get a closer look at the Slumber Party Masker Retro Cloth Russ Thorn,
00:42 let's grab the tape measure and see how tall the figure stands.
00:44 Yes, you would be correct. We have looked at this figure before, but it's been so long ago.
00:48 And I got a couple of questions from viewers out there asking if I still had the figure.
00:52 Would I consider reviewing him again?
00:54 Twist my rubber arm. That's what brought us to the stance now.
00:58 The figure, though, of Russ Thorn is going to stand at 8 inches in height.
01:01 Or the Slumber Party Masker Driller Killer is 20 centimeters tall.
01:05 If anybody knows anything about broken hearts, it's probably this guy right here.
01:09 Here's what the Retro Cloth Russ Thorn looks like along with the Retro Cloth My Bloody Valentine Minor.
01:14 Rocking a denim on denim look, or what we call here in Canada as the Canadian tuxedo,
01:18 Russ Thorn comes in clue with three accessories.
01:21 First, the figure comes with an interchangeable hand that's going to actually swap out with the hand that he has right now.
01:25 Funny though enough is that this is the only hand that actually is still clean,
01:29 while all the other two are actually still soaked in blood.
01:32 Probably not going to end up swapping this.
01:34 I don't even think I remember swapping and changing the hand the first time,
01:37 because I think the hands that he has right now are fairly suitable enough.
01:40 In fact, I probably would have just committed the plastic that they ended up using for this hand
01:44 and maybe included instead the box of pizza.
01:47 Anyways, the figure also comes in clue with the knife.
01:50 The knife starts our journey down what will be quite a bloodshed.
01:53 I mean, not only again does he have it on his hands, he has it all over his drill,
01:56 and he has it on the knife as well.
01:58 The only thing I would say about the knife though is that you can see there's a line right there.
02:02 My guess is that line is supposed to be there because that's part of the blade,
02:05 but I'm just not used to usually seeing butcher knives that have a little indentation on the end of it.
02:11 I'm sure though there are ones that exist.
02:13 You can see that he has already generously soaked this and stained this in blood,
02:18 and impaled this in somebody's body.
02:20 Funny though enough that Rust Thorn only appears in Slumber Party Massacre 1,
02:24 and yet though the actual footage that they used for Slumber Party was also then used as well for Sorority House Massacre,
02:30 I believe both 2 and 3, as they did use footage from Slumber Party Massacre.
02:34 If you ever get the chance to watch Sorority House Massacre 2, or the third one for that matter,
02:39 not only are they terrible movies, but you might in fact see the driller killer appear in that by no choice of his own.
02:45 The knife by the way does fit into his hand, either one of his hands for that matter.
02:49 You just take that and plug it into his hand like that.
02:51 The more favored of the accessories though, the figure also comes in clear with his drill.
02:55 The drill doesn't necessarily rotate, so if that's going to be a disappointment to you, I'm sorry to let you down,
03:01 but it does have, like you can see, a lot of blood there on the end of it.
03:04 He isn't so much called the driller killer in the movie, in fact there is actually a movie called The Driller Killer,
03:09 and it has nothing to do with Slumber Party, it has nothing to do with Rust Thorn.
03:13 He also is brought back in the Slumber Party Massacre 2, although it's really somewhat of a different driller killer,
03:19 without really giving it away, you really have to watch Slumber Party Massacre 2.
03:23 The drill itself does look quite good though, and again my favorite thing of the two accessories,
03:28 I mean really with the hand too, I have no plans at all of ever displaying that figure with the hands,
03:31 but to put the drill in his hand, just a case of taking the one side that has the trigger,
03:36 so obviously we're going to still want to use this hand here.
03:39 Take the handle, plug it in place, slide it down like this, and actually while I'm doing this too,
03:45 the only way, and still the only way that you can get this figure for yourself,
03:48 was that it was a collaboration between Scream Factory and NECA Toys.
03:53 They had at one point a, I believe, was it a steel case? A steel case of Slumber Party Massacre,
03:58 and along with that you got the chance as well to get yourself the retro cloth Rust Thorn.
04:01 It's the only time that this figure has ever been made available,
04:04 and I hope though it follows somewhat the same suit as Billy Chapman from Silent Night Deadly Night.
04:09 Remember that guy was also an exclusive to Scream Factory that eventually did get a retail release.
04:14 I hope something similar is in the fate here for Rust Thorn.
04:17 You can of course have the figure with the drill in his hand,
04:19 although you know again with the drill being so close like this to his body,
04:22 it makes things a little bit harder for him to run around.
04:24 Funny though that the actor that played Rust Thorn was I think Michael Valella,
04:29 and he was interviewed as to what kind of gave him the inspiration for the way he sort of stalks through the hallways and inside the house.
04:36 And I believe he said he wanted to look like, what was it like, that bird, the bird from NBC.
04:42 I'm just drawing now an absolute blank for what I was actually trying to think of.
04:46 It'll come back to me. It'll come back to me.
04:50 Anyways though, birds aside, let's just remove the drill and put it off to the side.
04:53 Getting a closer look though at Rust Thorn.
04:55 The head sculpt though is still good.
04:57 I mean even up to this point.
04:59 Previous retro cloth figures always really then suffered from really poor paint applications.
05:04 Rust Thorn somehow got off pretty lucky in fact.
05:07 His head sculpt not only does look like the actor,
05:10 but they've done a nice enough job of painting it that I don't even feel like if they got a future release down the road in retail,
05:16 I don't think the paint would be any bit better than what we're getting right here.
05:19 He's got blood there, all stained across the front of his face.
05:22 Funny though enough though, even though he is wearing the Canadian tuxedo,
05:25 there's no blood anywhere on his jacket.
05:27 There's no blood anywhere on his pants.
05:29 You would think, boy, those are pretty lucky clothes.
05:32 That he happens to get it on his hands, and quite a lot of it by the way.
05:35 And yet he doesn't get it anywhere else on his jacket or pants.
05:39 Speaking of jackets though, unfortunately my rust, I'm probably going to have to go in an iron.
05:43 You can see it's curled up at the bottom corner here.
05:46 Nice snaps they've added on the side there.
05:48 You've got a couple of little snaps on the tops of the pockets.
05:50 The pockets themselves don't actually function.
05:53 You can see there's just a flaps on the top.
05:55 Underneath of course he is wearing himself the red t-shirt.
05:58 Very bright, very bright t-shirt.
06:00 And he got himself a pair of denim jeans.
06:02 The shoes themselves, one thing I was happy to see when I eventually had this figure arrive,
06:07 was that he is using the newer articulation.
06:09 Because that was sort of around that cusp period, that time frame in which NECA moved away from the hinge joints,
06:15 over then instead to an ankle rocker.
06:18 And Rust-O-Ran just happened to be at that sweet spot when they moved over
06:21 and they gave these guys ankle articulation.
06:23 And he definitely does need it.
06:24 I mean obviously I prefer these figures to have ankle rockers,
06:28 as opposed to the way they used to be where they were hinges back and forth.
06:32 Speaking of figures, speaking of figure articulation,
06:34 moving though back to Rust, the head's going to be on ball joint and it moves quite freely.
06:38 Rotates all the way around, it moves up, it moves down, and you can easily move it back and forth as well.
06:44 As for the arms, the arms come out easily at 90 degrees.
06:48 A little tighter on this side, but again, much rather tight joints than loose joints.
06:52 You can bring the arms forward, you can bring the arms back.
06:54 There is a swivel here at the bicep.
06:56 There is also a double hinge it seems in the elbow, and the hands rotate all the way around.
07:01 The upper torso is going to be on a ball joint. Nice to see that.
07:03 The legs do split out, you can move those out as well.
07:06 Bring the legs forward, bring the legs back.
07:08 And would you believe as well, there's a swivel at the top of the thigh?
07:11 I'd never lead you guys to believe otherwise.
07:13 There's also again a hinge there on the knee.
07:15 The hinge on the knee seems to only be a single hinge, but again, he has the benefit of the ankle rocker.
07:21 Up and down, rock and forth, back and forth, this way as well.
07:24 Nice to see that we did get ourselves a Russ Thorne.
07:26 Again, unfortunately, if you guys are interested to get this guy for yourself, the only option now,
07:30 I don't even think now, Scream Factory even has this guy sitting around on their shelf.
07:33 They tend not, I mean, when they get retro figures, for example,
07:36 they have them for a very short amount of time.
07:38 Once they sell out, they tend not to restock them anymore.
07:40 So Russ Thorne, likely now, if you're looking to get your hands on this guy,
07:44 would have to be going probably the route of eBay.
07:46 eBay and paying the prices that this guy probably is going for now might be your only option.
07:51 But if you're a big fan of Slumber Party, at least the first one,
07:54 as of course in the second one, the Driller Killer gets,
07:57 well not only is he playing rock and roll with an electric guitar drill,
08:01 I'm not fooling you guys either, but he's all clad in leather too.
08:04 I don't think leather tops and leather bottoms is anything of a tuxedo.
08:08 I don't think so. I can tell you though, a denim jacket and denim jeans though,
08:11 is again, a Canadian tuxedo. Look that up. That thing actually does exist.
08:15 But while we did get ourselves a Slumber Party Masker Russ Thorne,
08:19 I do hope at some point, I mean, maybe they could also collaborate,
08:22 being NECA of course with Scream Factory and give us another Driller Killer.
08:26 One more specifically, we don't even have to think about the Slumber Party Masker 3 Driller Killer.
08:30 That guy was just stupid. But though I would definitely be interested,
08:33 very interested in fact, to get a leather rock and roll singing, playing, drilling, killing,
08:39 where are we going with this? The Driller Killer though that we get in Slumber Party Masker 2.
08:43 If that isn't something that's already on their table for ideas,
08:46 I certainly hope it will be as that's my favorite version of the Driller Killer
08:50 from the Slumber Party Masker films.
08:52 That bird by the way I was drawing a blank to was a peacock.
08:55 So Villella, when he was interviewed, said he based his movements in the movie off of a peacock.
09:00 Now we all know. One thing that I really like though about this figure is,
09:04 again, while he is unfortunately very rare, he still though doesn't feel dated.
09:09 By the way though, in between takes, I did check online over on eBay.
09:13 The asking price right now for retro cloth sealed Russ Thorne's are a little over $100.
09:18 About $102 to $105, give or take what seller is selling them for the moment.
09:22 But I think that's if you don't mind paying the price.
09:25 I think it's worth it because I'm a big fan of Slumber Party Masker.
09:28 Luckily I was able to get this figure when he first dropped over on Scream Factory.
09:32 So it's always really good to follow both Scream and NECA over on their social medias.
09:36 You can always then know when these limited edition figures then drop on Scream Factory
09:41 and get on board paying them for the price that they're asking for at the time,
09:44 not the price that they're going to be going for afterwards.
09:47 Have you guys had the chance though to get Russ Thorne?
09:49 And were you also lucky enough to get the steelbook version of Slumber Party Masker?
09:53 As I did say though, funny though that Russ Thorne appeared in only Slumber Party Masker,
09:57 he was recast again for the "driller killer" in the second film.
10:01 But then he did also come back in footage, again, footage that was only used by the studio again,
10:06 as a killer, an unnamed I think killer, in Sorority House Masker 2 for sure,
10:11 and maybe even again thrown again in there for Sorority House Masker 3.
10:15 So if you did want to really see Russ Thorne, he does technically make more than one appearance,
10:20 even though he is really a killer in only one movie.
10:23 Either way though, did you guys get the chance to grab this one for yourself?
10:26 And would you also be interested in a rock star leather clad "driller killer" guitar,
10:32 "driller killer" from the second film?
10:34 Yes, yes, yes.
10:36 I'm not speaking for all of you, that's basically just me saying yes three times.
10:39 If you guys though enjoyed this video, why not throw it a like? Why not?
10:42 If you guys are loving the content you guys are seeing and want to stick around for more,
10:45 we may be wrapping up things right now for the Proud Peacock.
10:48 That's not to say that we're not going to be going back,
10:50 maybe we might even go back and look at a couple of other retro,
10:52 NECA retro cloth figures that we looked at in the past.
10:56 How about that? Does that sound good? I hope it sounds good.
10:59 Make sure you're coming back here on a regular basis.
11:01 As always guys, thanks for watching. See you guys next time.
