00:03 here's your look at the brand-new NECA toys Thanksgiving retro cloth John

00:10 this year there'll be no leftovers a masked killer terrorizes Plymouth
00:29 Massachusetts and this Eli Roth directed horror flick that originated from a
00:32 trailer in the film grindhouse this 8-inch Thanksgiving John Carver action
00:36 figure is fully articulated and features tailored fabric jumpsuit two
00:40 interchangeable masks removal hat axe meat tenderizer knife comes in a window
00:44 box packaging before we see what new Carver neck has cooked up for us let's
00:50 grab the tape measure and see how tall the figure stands now like the one that
00:52 we looked at before the ultimate release I do have to figure right now displayed
00:55 with his hat on you could remove the hat but I like to kind of keep it on the
00:59 figure so I'm gonna measure him based on that if you'd like to have the hat
01:02 removed obviously just be a little bit shorter of a figure with that in mind
01:05 though John Carver the retro cloth release actually stands eight and a
01:08 half inches in height or the figures 21 centimeters tall it feels like last week
01:13 when we looked at the ultimate John Carver probably because it was last week
01:16 when we looked at the figure a little late on the game when it comes to my
01:19 reviewing at least of the figure what the one I actually ordered online from
01:22 NECA's site the retro cloth release at least I don't know what's happening with
01:26 the ultimate version I also ordered as well but the retro cloth actually
01:29 arrived to my doorstep shortly a week after I posted the review of the
01:33 ultimate John another figure obviously like we had done before when we looked
01:36 at the ultimate version of Carver I can also bring in the retro cloth release of
01:39 the minor from my bloody Valentine about the same size of figure obviously
01:43 Carver's getting a little bit higher of a height just because the hat he's got
01:46 on top of his head a rather interesting thing I did notice about the retro minor
01:50 remind me I'll bring him in a little bit later first though let's look at the
01:53 accessories that conclude John Carver here now unlike the ultimate release that
01:56 would have come with a lot more retros release of him only comes include with
01:59 six accessories what is not included with this release is that he doesn't
02:03 come with the musket the dart gun the sledgehammer or the alternate bloody
02:06 mask he does come still with the oven melted mask but he doesn't come with
02:10 all those other things and that usually again is the case with retro figures
02:13 usually get if anything one or two things that come with the cloth versions
02:16 and you get a lot more accessories to come include the ultimate releases so
02:19 let's look at the things that come include Carver first it comes with a
02:22 pair of swappable hands now these hands may just look like the hands that he
02:26 already has on the ends of his forearms and you wouldn't be necessarily a hundred
02:29 percent wrong you'd be pretty close to wrong but not a hundred percent I didn't
02:32 notice that with these hands they're a little bit better for holding like the
02:34 meat tenderizer if you try your best to try to get this meat tenderizer into
02:38 these hands I find they just sit way too loose and that's probably one of the
02:41 reasons why they included these extra hands I mean again like they're not that
02:45 much different really than the hands that he already has but again they're
02:47 just better suited for holding slightly smaller accessories by the way they are
02:50 mirror flips so you have a slightly wider grip hand that's actually just the
02:54 mirror flip to this one over here and it's just popping off the hand that he
02:57 has on the other forearm and just replace it with those the figure also
03:00 comes included with a knife now oh actually you know what by the way seeing
03:03 as we were talking about the tenderizer let's just quickly look at that don't
03:06 want to jump right away to the knife the tenderize has been molded again here in
03:09 brown plastic I'm gonna try to bring my do my best to bring in the other ones
03:12 here I like on honestly the color I think for the brown more on the retro
03:16 cloth release than I did with the ultimate the ultimate kind of went more
03:19 the bread of a paler brown I have to go back and look at this original movie
03:22 obviously a source material but I do kind of like the brown I think a little
03:25 bit more on the retro cloth release whether it's movie accurate or not
03:27 obviously it's also gonna be a little bit smaller in size the ultimate is to
03:31 the retro cloth release they're always gonna be a little bit bigger because the
03:33 figures are also a little bit bigger like that SCTV clip the man the bigger
03:37 man gets the bigger pork chop anybody see that clip from SCTV let me know down
03:41 below I figure also comes in clue with a knife now again like the ultimate release
03:44 we don't get the slightly smaller knife but he does come included with like the
03:48 butcher knife this is the longer one that's gonna come include the retro
03:50 release the smaller one's gonna come with the ultimate version of Carver if I
03:54 don't drop it in the process very similar type of knives although the one
03:57 we get with a retro is a lot shinier of a silver there also comes include this
04:01 axe bringing the axe from the ultimate release again bigger man gets the bigger
04:05 pork chop also to note as well like the blade doesn't seem as dirty as it does
04:09 on the ultimate release I will say though I like the way they've painted
04:13 the ultimate a little bit more you can see more of the grain it's also a
04:16 slightly lighter coloring of wood this one also does have a little bit more of
04:20 sculpting so while maybe this one doesn't have as much sculpting it
04:23 certainly does paint a lot nicer again this is gonna be the one that's gonna go
04:27 with the retro cloth release and again all these can be held in his hands the
04:30 hands that he has right now are more than enough suitable for holding things
04:33 like his axe you don't really have to worry about even changing out the hands
04:36 in the first place the hands by the way are also very soft and plastic so
04:39 getting them in his hands even though it looks like I'm probably struggling with
04:42 it right now it's pretty easy to do you get them right in his hand the figure
04:45 also comes included with his melted mask now without giving away anything to
04:49 anyone that hasn't yet seen the movie I'll just say this the killer puts the
04:53 mask down on an oven and then the mass proceeds to melt I mean that's not
04:57 saying necessarily anything that happened in the movie but what I will
05:00 say though is it's slightly different from the one that we get with the
05:03 ultimate release the ultimate does handle things I think paint wise a
05:06 little bit better adding a much appreciated darker coloring of a wash
05:09 brown whereas the one for the retro cloth release doesn't have as much of it
05:13 notably as well I would say like the yellows are a little bit more richer on
05:17 the retro release and you can see like again like this is a much brighter
05:20 yellow but I like the use of the brown a lot more on the ultimate release they
05:24 also peg in place the exact same way if you already have the ultimate version of
05:27 Carver they'll plug in the exact same way so there's a little slot of plastic
05:30 on the back you're just gonna essentially take the head off pop and
05:33 remove that from the face and then you're just gonna replace it with this
05:36 head sculpt here just before we do that though let's go ahead and remove the axe
05:39 out of his hands just put it off to the side here getting a closer look at his
05:43 defaulted head and again for this it's probably best to bring in the original
05:47 ultimate release so you guys can see yeah again like in this case the yellows
05:51 are a little bit lighter I will say one thing that the retro does a little bit
05:54 better maybe I like the coloring of the yellow a little bit more on the ultimate
05:57 but I will say like his features stand a little bit better I feel on the retro
06:01 release is that the case do you guys agree let me know down below he also has
06:04 more rosier cheeks on the retro release than he did on the original ultimate the
06:08 ultimate doesn't even really give much of an indication at all that he has
06:10 blushing this one I think does the features a little bit nicer a little bit
06:14 sharper also as well the hats if you look at the two this one is a little bit
06:17 not nice wide but it does seem like a little bit higher this one also handles
06:22 the buckle a little bit brighter but the head sculpts though very similar but
06:25 colored a little bit differently I did say though that changing out the heads
06:29 would be exactly the same it's just a case again room for moving the hats
06:32 which I will say like the hat is a softer plastic than that of the ultimate
06:36 release it also fits all over top of his head but pretty much the exact same way
06:39 you're just gonna kind of force that down on friction and the hats not gonna
06:42 be going anywhere but to remove the hat what's rather interesting again remember
06:46 I was saying something to anybody remind me nobody remind me all shame on you I
06:50 did say bring back in the minor nobody did remind me though I'm gonna bring him
06:54 back in a second but the way he attaches is plugged in the exact same way when we
06:58 looked at the original John Carver I'm just gonna put the figure down here for
07:01 a second I'm gonna bring back in the ultimate just gonna remove the hat on
07:04 him and also as well remove the mask now if you already had and you've also seen
07:09 the review thank you for that by the way but if you had the original ultimate
07:12 minor from my bloody Valentine he has exactly the same face we've covered that
07:16 territory I know already except this has the very ugly slot in the middle of his
07:19 forehead to accommodate again the swapping of the heads so again if you
07:22 wanted to just change the heads I already had the clean mask before but
07:25 you want to put on the melted mask just plugs in place like that and again the
07:29 ultimate my bloody Valentine minor also did things the exact same way the
07:33 interesting thing about it though is while looking now at the retro cloth
07:36 release it attaches the exact same way you're just gonna remove the head from
07:40 first of all there's the mask guys want to see the mask what it looks like up
07:42 close and personal a breathing spot so of course the killer can breathe out of
07:46 his mouth while he's chasing down people and of course there's holes in his eyes
07:49 there plugs in back the exact same way but removing it you can also notice as
07:54 well that there's a face underneath now thinking this was just a case that they
07:58 scaled up the version of the ultimate minor I happen to go back though and I
08:03 looked at the retro minor you guys can look along with me this one didn't have
08:07 a removal mask nor did I have removable miners hat but what it did though have
08:11 while it may not be as obvious on this side if you look on this side of the
08:15 figure's body see there's a little opening right here where just the mask
08:19 hasn't completely wrapped around the side of his face there seems to be an
08:21 opening on his face if you look at the side here right here right around here
08:27 so if I'm covering this with basically the mask see how it's got the little
08:30 opening on the side of where his mask would be almost as if at one point
08:34 NECA had planned to have this as removable mask and maybe they just
08:38 decided was just too much just too much additional tooling obviously that it
08:42 just wouldn't have worked from them at least to do it in that but to do it
08:44 maybe in the ultimate release so maybe this figure did in fact use at one point
08:48 the unmasked surprised face and then just they couldn't get the mask off they
08:52 just kept it as one piece to the figures head because like this one doesn't remove
08:56 it you know don't want to be ripping it off and breaking it it's interesting
08:59 though that on the side of it does clearly look like he's got himself the
09:02 ski mask underneath just again you can't remove the mask and move that off to the
09:06 side by the way if you guys didn't want to see the review of that retro cloth
09:09 version of my bloody Valentine my minor I'll thank you in advance by the way
09:14 changing out again the face is just a case if you look at the back of the face
09:17 there's the little slot in the back of his mask and that just plugs in place
09:20 exactly the same way as the ultimate version and then of course you just
09:23 would go back and retrieve put the little hat back in place now it's gonna
09:27 stay in place and and again like you can have the look of the character in two
09:30 different ways either you prefer to have the melted mask or if again you want to
09:33 have the cleaner mask I gotta say like the cleaner mask does actually look
09:37 really nice I love the way again they brush they blushed on the little red
09:41 down below there in the areas of his cheeks definitely does look again not as
09:45 not as painted well as the ultimate but I think that the features look a lot
09:49 nicer on the retro version just my own personal opinion let's move the other
09:53 ultimate carver out of the way here when it comes to of course the rest of his
09:56 body the body is basically just using the same kind of coveralls as we get
09:59 already from like the Michael Myers I should have really brought in a retro
10:02 Michael Myers I've done already enough reviews of those guys but basically like
10:05 the cover all seemed to be exactly the same they velcro also the exact same way
10:10 and one thing too is when you open up the coveralls you'll notice that yeah
10:13 unfortunately some of the staining from this the dye that they probably used to
10:16 color the coveralls would have bled then onto his body I mean this is never gonna
10:20 be a look that you would you ever really display carver with his shirt or his
10:24 boilers basically open like this I don't I don't think you would but you can see
10:27 like if you did though it would leave a very noticeable stain on the actual
10:31 plastic just one of those unavoidable things interesting also that his collar
10:35 piece that goes around his head is actually only stops right around here
10:38 instead of actually having this just cast in all black plastic which I really
10:41 expected them to actually do they rather instead actually just cast this in in
10:45 flesh color plastic and probably one of the reasons why they did that too is that
10:49 carver isn't gonna have black sleeves for example he would have only just
10:53 been wearing gloves so they probably just decided to cast the whole thing in
10:56 skin color plastic just because again things like visible forearms would also
11:00 be there and as well his visible legs his feet are also very similar to the
11:04 ones he would have had in the movie kind of more like like hiking boots hiking
11:08 shoes very nicely sculpted on the bottom unfortunately not being completely flat
11:11 though he has he doesn't have as much stability as maybe like the ultimate
11:16 minor we looked at before like miners if you look at the back the bombs of his
11:19 feet are actually completely flat so like his like the ultimate version of
11:23 Carver doesn't have completely flat feet so he doesn't balance as well now for
11:27 the figures articulation going back to his head it's gonna be on a ball joint
11:30 so it does rotate all the way around not only is it on ball joint it seems like
11:34 so like all this basically is one encased piece so like there's a ball
11:38 joint here but I feel as if there's probably like a dumbbell so there's
11:41 probably a ball joint here and a ball joint the base of the neck because there
11:44 seems to be a lot more movement even though he really loses a lot of it here
11:48 not having in the head he seems to gain a lot more of it in the neck the upper
11:52 torso is also gonna be on a ball joint now these are using the newer retro
11:55 figure bodies he also had the notable ankle pivot which is also good to see
11:59 arms hinge out at 90 degrees you can take Carver's arms and move forward you
12:03 can move them back figure has a bicep swivel double hinge on the elbow which
12:07 is also something new with the retro bodies swivel on the hands the legs do
12:11 split out you can take the legs and move forward move them back there's a swivel
12:14 at the top of the thigh double a single hinge actually only on the knee I keep
12:18 thinking there's a double hinge but I think there's only just a single hinge
12:20 because I can only feel really in there you know what let's just bring up the
12:23 leg bring up the leg yeah single hinge still some staining but again you're
12:26 probably not gonna have them waiting around waiting around in the waters but
12:30 he only has a single hinge there and the most important thing to take away from
12:33 this is the fact figure also has an ankle pivot and an ankle rocker love that new
12:37 retro figures all have ankle rockers that's the thing that was really lacking
12:41 I feel on the original retro figures was they didn't have the ankle pivot so a
12:44 lot of times you'd have figures that would have a harder time to stand let's
12:47 bring back in the ultimate version of John Carver you know again it's so funny
12:52 the fact that I waited as long as I did that finally having a look at the
12:55 ultimate release like last week if I'm dating myself at the time that you guys
12:59 would be seeing this video and at the time that I'm actually shooting this
13:02 video it was last week when I posted the review finally of ultimate John Carver
13:06 love the look of that figure I love the movie so like getting a Carver figure
13:09 from NECA toys just seems like hand-in-hand perfect marriage but now
13:12 getting an ultimate release of the figure I mean if you are one that likes
13:15 to collect retro figures and I know that's not everybody there are NECA
13:18 collectors out there that only primarily collect retro figures but then there's a
13:21 lot of collectors that also just prefer the ultimate releases I'm glad to
13:24 see that NECA decided to release him in both formats as a as a collector likes
13:28 to collect both I get the benefit of having the John Carver in the retro
13:32 cloth release displayed with all the other holiday horror slashers like my
13:35 bloody valentines minor we also can I can now have him
13:39 displayed with the Michael Myers and something that the ultimate release
13:42 can't say that he has I can now also display him with Billy and Ricky from
13:46 silent night deadly night retro is John Carver may not have the same accessory
13:50 count as the ultimate release not having say for example the musket the sledge
13:53 hammer the dart gun or even the bloody mask but you know to be fair he does
13:57 pretty good for himself retro cloth figures count your blessings if we get
14:00 two or three accessories John Carver happens to come in clear with six he has
14:03 the knife for example the meat tenderizer the axes got displayed with
14:07 right now and two again different interchangeable masks you can either go
14:10 with the cleaner mask which again I think the mask is better defined it
14:14 seems to show the features a little bit nicer here on the retro cloth release
14:17 than it did on the ultimate the old man I think did have better paint but I
14:21 think the retro cloth figure had a better looking mask that masks though do
14:25 change out the exact same way and when we did look at the ultimate version of
14:28 John Carver we realized that they are using yes the same head sculpt as the my
14:32 bloody Valentine minor and that's not a bad thing at all but you know pulling
14:35 the mask off this one I was pleasantly surprised to go back and look at my
14:39 bloody Valentine's retro minor and realize perhaps there was a suggested
14:43 idea down the road at one point maybe NECA had planned to have removal mask on
14:47 that figure and decided to scrap it I mean it's more just speculation than
14:51 anything else but you have to wonder though if the mask isn't just a scaled
14:55 up version from the one we got from the ultimate minor but in fact if the my
14:59 bloody Valentine retro minor had the original surprise look before the
15:03 ultimate got it makes you really certainly wonder are you guys a big fan
15:07 of retro cloth figures let me know down below in the comment section I know it
15:10 certainly does draw the line when it comes to people that collect NECA
15:12 figures you either really like retro cloth figures or you don't and you're
15:15 just kind of more in favor of ultimate figures or you might just be like myself
15:18 that likes to collect both formats I will again like the idea that this one
15:22 can now finally be displayed with some retro cloth figures that have yet to
15:25 make ultimate releases I'm looking right now in the direction of Billy called
15:29 well Billy Chapman and Ricky Caldwell to retro cloth figures I do hope at some
15:34 point we get finally as ultimate releases but what do you guys think what
15:37 where do you guys stand when it comes to retro cloth figures do you like them do

15:55 in all that is the fact that while you may have waited a while for the review
15:59 to go up of the ultimate release from the person behind the camera you didn't
16:02 have to wait as long to get this the review of the retro cloth release but
