00:00 It's exciting to get new graduates from the Academy at any time.
00:04 Launceston is one of the bigger training stations in the state, so the more we get the merrier.
00:10 We've been really well supported over the years with graduating people from the Academy,
00:14 and today we welcomed six new graduates into the Launceston Uniform area.
00:19 It's exciting because it allows us to deploy them straight away into the field.
00:24 You might see them on the streets walking the beat,
00:27 you might see them because you might get pulled over,
00:30 you might see them at a job that you've requested police for.
00:33 So having those extra numbers is a real benefit to me personally, running a big division,
00:38 and also for the Launceston community in having more uniform police visible on the streets.
00:44 We're actually after diversity, so we want people of different thought processes,
00:50 different backgrounds, different genders, different identities, just to apply.
00:55 We're representative of the Tasmanian community,
00:58 and we know that there is a broad range of different personalities and people and cultures in Tasmania,
01:04 so we want the police force to be reflective of that.
01:07 So if we can get the most diverse applicants to apply for police,
01:12 then that is such a great benefit to the community in the long run,
01:16 because we don't want to all be the same.
01:19 We want to be different, and I've told the guys behind me that they're to make their own identity.
01:24 Definitely all the stuff they've put in practice or learnt at the academy, they put in practice now,
01:29 but forge their own way and their own identity through the police force,
01:32 and bring in their own learnings, their own backgrounds, and their own experiences
01:37 to really mould how they operate as a police officer in the future.
