00:00Rescuers have rushed to evacuate people stranded by devastating floods across the southern
00:04Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul. At least 90 people thought now to have died, with thousands
00:10of people left homeless. Now desperate survivors seeking food and basic supplies, many families
00:16left sleeping on the roadside with little or nothing to eat. Others leaving the area
00:21on foot, carrying their belongings in backpacks or shopping trolleys.
00:27I took shelter here on the footbridge because I don't think the water will get this high.
00:33They are bringing us food and there are doctors treating people who are sick.
00:40We were forced to leave because everything had been washed away by the flood. We tried
00:44to wait as long as we could, but there was no chance. The army came and rescued us,
00:50as well as our dogs that are down there. We even kept the kitten that some people left
00:55behind, so we're going to stay here because we're close to home.
01:01It's been very sad to see people desolate, not knowing exactly where to go, without contact
01:06because there's no power, no cell phone signal. It's difficult to get in touch with their
01:10families. They don't know where to go.
