00:00My Outro For My 20th Birthday
00:31Hello and welcome to Latest TV News
00:35My name is Yael Broya and I will be bringing you the top stories from across Sussex
00:41A motorcyclist died in a collision on the A21 in East Sussex on Monday, police have confirmed
00:49Sussex Police said a man has since been arrested in connection with the fatal collision
00:55A police spokesperson said emergency services were called to the A21 Vinal Road at around 7.25am
01:04to report of a collision between three cars and a motorcycle
01:09The collision involved a black BMW, a grey Honda Jazz, a white Nissan and a gold Triumph Bonneville motorcycle
01:18The rider of the motorcycle, a 57-year-old man, was sadly confirmed deceased at the scene
01:25The driver of the BMW, a 35-year-old man from Bexley, was arrested on suspicion of causing death
01:32by dangerous driving and has been bailed pending further enquiries
01:37Anyone who witnessed the incidents or the events leading up to it, including those with any relevant CCTV
01:45or dashcam footage, are asked to email collision.appeal at sussex.police.uk
01:53Quoting Operation Bowden
01:56One of the few roads to cross the mainline railway to and from Brighton station will be closed for at least 18 weeks for repairs
02:06Brighton and Hove City Council closed Dyke Road Drive on Monday, 29 April, to mend the pavement and kerbs
02:14and repair the parapet wall
02:17Parts of the wall need to be completely removed and rebuilt during the works, which are expected to take until the end of August
02:26There is a drop of 164 feet, or 50 metres, behind the parapet wall
02:33Part of the pavement needs to be taken up and re-laid to make way for the new wall
02:39and the council is using the road closure to fix neighbouring pavements and kerbs
02:45The council sent letters to nearby homes and informed schools
02:51because many parents and pupils use the route to reach Stanford Infant and Junior Schools,
02:58Windlesham House and Cardinal Newman Catholic School
03:03A landslip caused numerous delays and cancellations for trains across Sussex on Bank Holiday Monday
03:11A signalling fault at Borkham caused delays for London-born trains
03:16However, a sensor system detected a possible landslip in the same area and a number of services were delayed until 3pm
03:25In a statement, a spokesperson for Southern Rail said
03:29Following a landslip near Borkham and an earlier signalling problem in the same area,
03:35trains have been severely disrupted between Three Bridges and Haywards Heath
03:40All lines are now open, but Southern, Thameslink and Gatwick Express services will continue to be affected
03:49Services to and from Brighton station were affected
03:53Trouble caused by a small number of WIC fans has overshadowed their playoff final win at Seaford
04:00and promotion to the SCFL Premier Division
04:04There was trouble in the town before and after the game
04:08and at the ground itself and WIC have been quick to act
04:12It is understood that at one point a flare was thrown into the crowd and struck a woman
04:19Police were called to deal with the incidents in the town
04:23The WIC directors issued a statement on Monday saying
04:27The directors and staff of WIC FC would like to make an unreserved apology
04:33More than 25,000 properties in St Leonard's and Hastings,
04:38which lost water supply after Thursday night's burst water main,
04:42have now had main supply restored, though they may experience reduced pressure for a time
04:49Of the remaining 7,500 properties affected,
04:53the vast majority, some 6,000, are expected to be back on supply later today
04:59However, around 1,500 properties in parts of St Helens and St Helens Wood,
05:05which are normally served by the Fairlight Reservoir,
05:08are unlikely to see supplies restored until tomorrow morning or lunchtime
05:13This is because the reservoir is not yet sufficiently stocked to meet the demand
05:19As areas are being brought back into supply,
05:23Southern Water is redeploying its fleet of 24 tankers to support those areas still without supply
05:31Bottled water stations will remain open from 8am to 9pm
05:36and Southern Water confirmed that it will continue to deliver bottled water to customers
05:42on its Priority Services Register until everyone is confirmed back in supply
05:48Hi there, it's Darren Howard here, the sports editor from Sussex World
05:53and just finished watching the Brighton vs Aston Villa game
05:56and that was much more like it from Brighton
05:59A really, really good performance at the Amex Stadium
06:03after what's been a real struggle in recent matches
06:07It was their first win from their last seven games
06:11and it was thoroughly deserved, to be honest
06:14They were on the front foot against the Aston Villa team
06:18who were really pushing for the Champions League spots
06:21and they had a bad result, you know, Emery's team in midweek
06:25against Olympiacos in their Europa Conference League match, their semi-final
06:31and it just looked as though they were a little bit off the pace against Brighton
06:36and Deservey's team, they took full advantage
06:40and they didn't really allow Villa too many chances in the game at all
06:47I thought, from start to finish, Brighton looked solid, they looked disciplined
06:51They had an experienced backline today, which I think made a difference
06:55Joel Veltman, or Verbruggen in goal
06:57and then it was Joel Veltman, Lewis Dunk, Adam Webster
07:00and then Igor Julio on the left side
07:04and I think that really showed in the previous matches
07:08Valentin Barko, he'd been playing on the left-hand side
07:12and as good a player as he's going to be
07:15it's tough to learn in that environment
07:20especially when you're up against teams such as Manchester City
07:24and away at Bournemouth as well, who are playing very well at the moment
07:28so Barko dropped to the bench, Eagle was on the left-back
07:32and then in front of them they had Pascal Gros
07:35and Billy Gilmour in the midfield
07:38and I thought that worked really well, Gros looked good, he was solid
07:42but Gilmour, on my player ratings, I gave him an 8 out of 10
07:46I thought, it was only his second game back following his injury
07:50he'd missed about six or seven games with this knee injury
07:53picked up while on international duty
07:55and having him back in that midfield just added
07:58he brings, defensively he was good
08:01he was closing down the Aston Villa midfield
08:04but when he's on the ball, that's really when you see
08:07his extra quality and his extra class that he can bring to the team
08:12he's able to just pick out the pass, it's so easy and natural for him
08:16he just picks out the pass, gets the play moving forward
08:19he can also drive forward with the ball as well
08:23so I think having Billy Gilmour in for these final few matches
08:26is going to be very important for Brighton
08:29as they try and look to finish the season a bit better
08:34so it moves them up to one place, the victory today moves them up to 11th
08:38in the table
08:40and they can now look forward to the rest of their games
08:43they've got to play Newcastle, then Chelsea and then Manchester United finally
08:47so three more very difficult games
08:50and of course Chelsea they won, they scored five against West Ham today
08:54so that's going to be a tough game
08:56Newcastle look good against Burnley as well at the weekend
08:59so that's going to be tricky
09:01and what you get from Manchester United you never know
09:04but Brighton are going to be, I think it's going to give them a lot of confidence
09:08today's victory
09:10and in particular Simon Odinga down the left-hand side
09:15he'd been a bit flat in recent matches
09:18and I don't think it was all his fault as well
09:21he was getting some criticism and saying that he hasn't really been performing that well
09:25and he hasn't scored for a long while
09:28I think Sheffield United away was probably his last goal
09:33and although he didn't score today
09:35he was a threat down that left-hand flank
09:38from the minute one he was at Esri Konca
09:42who really struggled against him
09:45he absolutely couldn't deal with Odinga's pace
09:49his skill and his directness
09:51as he was continuously running at Konca
09:55and causing him problems
09:57so I think Odinga had suffered a bit in the previous matches
10:02the team wasn't functioning well
10:04he wasn't receiving the service
10:05he wasn't getting the balls in good areas
10:07and when Brighton don't dominate the ball
10:10the wide players often have to drop back
10:13and they spend too much of their time doing defensive work
10:17and I think that's what's happened to Odinga
10:20over the last few weeks or so
10:23but today Brighton were better as a team
10:26they kept possession better
10:27and that really allowed Odinga to really go down that left flank
10:32and attack them
10:35also I thought Bonate he was pretty good as well
10:39he played off the right-hand side
10:41and he was cutting in
10:43although he didn't have the impact of Odinga
10:45he was still very good
10:46he still worked very hard
10:47and he's at his best when he's finding these little gaps in spaces
10:51in the midfield
10:53which he did against Aston Villa from time to time
10:55and in turn he looks to play that little pass through
10:58or get his shots away
11:01I thought those two they bowed well for the rest of the season
11:06and if they can keep that control of the matches
11:09that Deserbe looks for in every game
11:11where they're in control of the ball from the back into the midfield
11:15and then their attacking players can then find a way
11:19to keep the pressure on teams
11:22and it's not easy
11:23against teams like Aston Villa
11:25they've been excellent this season
11:27they're a Champions League team potentially next season
11:31so today's result dented their chances a bit
11:35it depends on what Tottenham does a bit later on against Liverpool
11:38but it's still looking as though Villa are going to make those top four places
11:42and deservedly so
11:44but they really didn't get a look in against Brighton today
11:47they didn't offer anything going forward
11:50Brighton are always seeing one step ahead
11:54so it looks good
11:55but the actual goal arrived
11:58Brighton are playing some good attacking football
12:01their keeper Robert Olsen
12:03who was in for the injured Emi Martinez
12:05he'd played very well up until that point
12:08he'd denied Pascal Gross
12:10he'd denied Jal Pedro
12:11he also saved from Odinga in the first half
12:14and then when Odinga won the penalty
12:16after Konsa brought him down
12:18he also then saved Jal Pedro's header
12:21very well down low to his right
12:24and the ball just popped up
12:26and Pedro luckily for him
12:28it landed perfectly
12:30and he just nodded home
12:33the winner on the 87th minute
12:35so Brighton had to keep going until the end
12:38and it was perhaps a little bit fortunate
12:40how the rebound ricocheted up for Jal Pedro
12:43but I think anybody watching the game
12:46wouldn't have begrudged Brighton a victory
12:48I thought they thoroughly deserved it
12:51and after the game against Bournemouth
12:52where they were beaten soundly 3-0 at Bournemouth
12:56I thought the response to that
12:58and how they played
12:59how they looked more confident
13:01on the ball, in possession
13:03and also out of possession
13:05where they didn't allow Villa the momentum
13:08to get going forward
13:09I thought it was very good
13:11so good day all round
13:13I think the fans enjoyed it as well
13:15they just wanted to see Brighton put on a good show
13:17and deliver some good performances
13:19between now and the end of the season
13:21and moving up that place as well
13:23that also adds
13:24every place in the Premier League
13:26is worth about 3 million
13:28so if Brighton can get some decent results
13:31in the next few matches
13:32that's a significant amount of money
13:34so you don't really want to be ending the season
13:36on a whimper
13:37you want to be moving up the table
13:39as much as you can
13:40like I say they're up to 11th
13:41but if they can keep pushing
13:42and maybe finish in the top half
13:45or maybe get that 8th, 9th spot still
13:47that's still a possibility
13:49then that all adds to the prize money
13:52the market that Brighton fish in
13:54where they're looking for these players
13:56of around 6 million
13:58or around about that figure
14:00below 10 million
14:01perhaps pushing up those extra few places
14:03that's another South American teenager
14:06that they can bring in perhaps
14:07for a decent fee
14:09and then look to integrate them into the team
14:12so it all matters
14:13these last few games
14:14there's still a lot riding on them
14:16and I think Brighton fans
14:17after today's result
14:19can now look forward
14:21to the final few matches
14:24but a good victory for Brighton
14:26well deserved
14:27and the next game
14:29will be at Newcastle
14:31next weekend
14:32and we'll have
14:33all the previews
14:34and all the analysis
14:35for the Newcastle game
14:38and all the analysis from today's game
14:40on the Sussex World website
14:41including the player ratings
14:43where predictably
14:44Odingra was the man of the match
14:46but there was also some good performances
14:48elsewhere as well
14:49so take a quick look on Sussex World
14:52for all the latest Brighton news
14:54thank you
15:19Right, welcome back
15:30I'm in the hot seat now
15:31so Brighton returned to winning ways
15:33in the Premier League
15:34and moved up to 11th
15:35with a 1-0 victory
15:36against Champions League chasing
15:38Aston Villa
15:39Jal Pedro scored the decisive goal
15:40in the 87th minute
15:41and there were quite a few
15:42encouraging displays
15:43weren't there Darren?
15:45Yeah it was
15:46it looked much better
15:48from Brighton
15:49you know it followed on from
15:54quite off the pace
15:56and they needed a positive reaction
15:59they needed to show
16:00that they're going to finish the season
16:02hopefully on a positive note
16:04and that was a big step towards that
16:07at Aston Villa
16:08I thought they looked so much better
16:10they had an experienced defence
16:13out there
16:14Joel Veltman right back
16:15Lewis Dunk
16:16Adam Webster was back
16:17in the team as well
16:19and then Igor Julio
16:20on the left as well
16:22and I was quite pleased
16:23for Adam Webster
16:24he's had a tough season
16:27Jean-Paul van Gecke
16:29he's sort of moved above him
16:31in the pecking order of late
16:33and then when Webster has come in
16:34and had his chance to play
16:36he hasn't always been that good
16:38I remember looking back
16:39to the Aston Villa
16:40in the reverse fixture
16:42Ollie Wilkins ran him ragged
16:44really at Villa Park that time
16:46and he's been in and out of the team
16:48against Fulham
16:49I think he came back as well
16:50and struggled
16:51and I was pleased for him
16:53against Aston Villa
16:54he looked really good
16:55he looked sort of back to his best
16:56alongside Lewis Dunk
16:59and when he's fit
17:00and physically fit
17:01and ready to go
17:03he's a really good Premier League defender
17:06and I think that could be a good sign
17:08for him next season
17:09if they can keep him at this level
17:12then that gives Brighton
17:13another option as well
17:15at the back there
17:16so good for Adam Webster
17:18I thought Billy Gilmour as well
17:20he was excellent
17:21back alongside Pascal Gros
17:23remember he's been out
17:24with a knee injury for a while
17:27back in that midfield
17:30added a lot more control
17:32and he looked very good as well
17:35and obviously Simon Odinga
17:37he was probably just about man of the match
17:39he was a real threat
17:41down the left-hand side
17:43and it was his sort of trickery
17:44at the end that won the penalty
17:46from when he was brought down
17:48by Esri Konsa
17:49who he gave really torrid time to
17:52throughout really
17:53so yeah lots of positives for Brighton
17:55I was sure that they're back
17:59to a level where they can compete
18:02against the better teams
18:04Yeah they needed to get there
18:05didn't they?
18:06They were struggling
18:07but yeah it's just three-round matches
18:08remain this season
18:09now starting with Newcastle this Saturday
18:11what are your thoughts ahead
18:12of this trip to St. James Park Sam?
18:14Yeah tough game
18:15tough game for Brighton this one
18:16obviously Newcastle are still
18:17in with a chance of getting
18:19into the Europa League
18:21they're just four points
18:22below Spurs actually at the moment
18:24with three games remaining
18:25so they could even get into
18:26fifth position
18:28so yeah again Newcastle will be really
18:30wanting to win
18:32really and I think they've had
18:34a decent record against Brighton at home
18:35they've won the last two games
18:36at St. James Park against Brighton
18:39and they're obviously coming into the game
18:40on the back of a 4-1 win
18:42away at Burnley
18:43and before that they won 5-1
18:45against Sheffield United
18:46and obviously two teams that are
18:48likely to be going down
18:50or going down to the championship
18:52but I think you can just show
18:54Newcastle can score goals
18:55and Brighton really need to
18:57put in a good performance
18:59to prevent a defeat really
19:01because obviously
19:02as we know the atmosphere
19:03it can be quite intimidating
19:05at St. James Park
19:07and they've got good crowd support there
19:10so yeah just fingers crossed
19:12Brighton can pick up where they left off
19:13against Aston Villa
19:14because it was a surprise result really
19:16I think everyone was expecting
19:17Aston Villa to win that one
19:19being obviously fourth in the league
19:20and trying to solidify that
19:21for the Athens League
19:23but they really did look off it on the day
19:25and Brighton took advantage
19:26and definitely deserved that late goal
19:28so hopefully that's got the confidence back
19:30because there's been a real lack of confidence
19:31in Brighton's team
19:33for quite a few weeks now
19:34so hopefully there's a bit of an injection
19:36of energy back
19:37and they can continue that
19:38and get a really positive result
19:40and end the season strongly
19:42Yeah definitely off the pitch
19:44the German midfielder Pascal Gross
19:46was named both Men's Player of the Year
19:48and Player of the Year
19:49he's made 46 appearances so far
19:51and contributed 4 goals
19:52and 10 assists in the Premier League
19:54well deserved isn't it Darren?
19:56Yeah you couldn't argue with that
19:58there were a few good candidates
20:01for the Player of the Year
20:03but I think Pascal Gross
20:05would have got my vote
20:06I just think he's been excellent
20:09all season
20:11and you sort of wonder
20:13where Brighton would be in the table
20:16where he would be in the table
20:18without him really
20:19he's just been such a consistent player
20:21for all season
20:23and as you say
20:25with the goals and assists
20:26that he pops up with as well
20:28he's just a real class act
20:31and what's pleased me the most
20:33this season as well
20:34is that he's also had some
20:36been recognised by Germany at last
20:38I think
20:39Yeah definitely
20:40how he's
20:42the last couple of seasons
20:43you think he should have been
20:44in and around the team
20:45especially with Germany
20:46they weren't doing so well
20:47and not to even sort of select him
20:49for a squad and have a look
20:51so hopefully he'll be
20:53he'll be at the Euros this summer
20:55as well with Germany
20:57but yeah I think for Brighton
20:59I just hope that he stays
21:01for another season as well
21:02because it has been thought
21:04that he may go back
21:05to the Bundesliga next season
21:07he'll have one year left
21:08on his contract this summer
21:10so it'll be interesting to see
21:11he's sort of said
21:12he likes the Bundesliga
21:14and for family reasons
21:16he may look to go back
21:18he said that earlier in the season
21:20but I'm sure Deserbe will be
21:23pestering him from now
21:24until the end of the season
21:25to try and keep him there
21:27because I think he's such a
21:29vital player for them
21:30especially as
21:31Caicedo and McAllister
21:32they left last season
21:34and there was a big hole
21:35in that midfield
21:36and I think his performances
21:38and how he controls his game
21:40he's always available
21:41to receive the ball as well
