An explanation will be sought from Meta on why posts about certain Malaysian media reports on the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's meeting with Hamas political leaders were removed from its social media platforms.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said his office was informed about the matter and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission had written a letter to Meta for an explanation.

00:00 In the meeting between the Prime Minister and the leader of Hamas,
00:06 from the political wing of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh,
00:12 there were at least three media outlets that informed my office
00:19 that their posting on social media, especially on META, had been deleted.
00:27 We can see that in Malaysia Kini and Sinar Harian,
00:33 the reason given is that it looks like you shared or sent symbols,
00:40 praise or support of people and organisations that we define as dangerous or followed them.
00:46 But if we look closely, the posting has no aspects as claimed by META.
00:56 But there is another platform, Malaysia Gazette,
01:02 whose account has been closed by META.
01:09 This has forced Malaysia Gazette to open a new account.
01:16 As the Minister of Communications, I disapprove of META's action
01:21 to delete articles or posting from the media.
01:29 And this is a report about an official visit by the Prime Minister
01:38 to Qatar and a meeting with the political wing of an organisation,
01:44 not the wing of the militants or military.
01:49 The MCMC has sent a letter to META to get an explanation.
01:56 And I will also follow up with not only the statement I made now,
02:03 but also with a letter from me to META to ask for an explanation.
02:10 If you remember, when we were hosting the event at the Asiata Arena,
02:21 there was a statement from the PM that was posted on social media,
02:29 such as Instagram.
02:32 But after we sent a protest, it was returned.
02:37 So I will follow up.
02:40 What I regret is that this action was taken by an organisation
02:46 that is generally considered to be based in the US,
02:50 and they clearly do not respect the freedom of the media
02:57 to use their platform.
03:00 So I regret this action and I am outraged.
03:05 So, God willing, we will hold a meeting with all social media platforms in June.
03:11 And in that meeting, I will raise this matter,
03:14 ask for an explanation so that the official report
03:19 or report on official duties or activities of the PM
03:25 is not used or carried out in this way.
03:29 Thank you.
