00:10Is everyone already at the beach before it rains?
00:14♪♪♪
00:23In Surfing Capital of the North,
00:25we discovered a unique product.
00:28Let's go.
00:33Balbo, short for balance board.
00:36In this product,
00:37it's like you're already surfing.
00:39You can use it anytime, anywhere.
00:41You don't always have to be at the beach.
00:46France, the girl boss,
00:47started this business when she was just 21 years old.
00:51Now, she earns 7 digits per year.
00:55Her product is not only popular here in the Philippines,
00:57but also in other countries.
00:59♪♪♪
01:11Everything you need to try Balbo,
01:13fits in one bag.
01:17Okay, France.
01:18Show me how it fits in a small bag like this.
01:21So, this is the tote bag.
01:22This is the whole set.
01:23This is the deck.
01:24The board.
01:25This is the mat.
01:26This is the mat.
01:27So, for safety reasons, then.
01:30Why do you need this?
01:31Because, for example,
01:32if you use it on a surface like this,
01:35or on tiles or cement,
01:37it can slide off easily.
01:39So, this traction will help to balance it,
01:43so it won't just tip off easily.
01:45And then, this is the ruler.
01:50Of course, France will show us
01:52how to use Balbo.
01:54You need to know if you're goofy or regular.
01:57It means your stance.
01:58Which one is more dominant,
01:59this one or this one?
02:00So, for me, it's this one.
02:02So, it's the first one.
02:04So, it's here on the right.
02:06So, that's where the board will tip off,
02:08because that's where you're dominant.
02:10Then, just, you know.
02:12Better to look away,
02:14because it gives you that more balance.
02:18And, you know.
02:19Don't look down.
02:21So, there.
02:23For it to be balanced,
02:24the hips, knees, and upper body need to help.
02:28This will allow you to surf in the sea.
02:32So, it's a form of exercise too?
02:34Yes.
02:36I'm sweating.
02:37I'm sweating.
02:39What will help your body?
02:41If you do that.
02:42It can help you with the core,
02:44because it's the core that, you know,
02:45carries everything.
02:47Because it's the power center of the body.
02:49So, it helps a lot with that.
02:52Also, with surfing, stability, and coordination.
02:56So, if you learn that, you'll know how to surf?
02:58Yeah.
02:59It's kind of like a simulation.
03:01Oh, wow.
03:03So, it's easy.
03:04It's not like you're going to jump into the sea right away.
03:06You don't know how to do that.
03:07You're just going to swim, right?
03:08So, this will help a lot.
03:11So, more or less,
03:12you'll have a feel of how to surf.
03:14If you've never surfed before, right?
03:17So, this will help a lot.
03:18Oh, okay.
03:19That's good.
03:20So, it's kind of like anywhere.
03:22You just bring that tote bag with this,
03:24and then you can do it anywhere.
03:26Yes.
03:27You just put everything in there.
03:28Yeah.
03:29Just one bag.
03:30Franz is a native of Pangasinan.
03:32She was only eight years old
03:33when she first tried surfing in La Union.
03:36What made you fall in love with surfing?
03:40I think the freedom that comes with it.
03:43And then, it gives you that joy and stillness
03:47and excitement at the same time.
03:49When Franz finished her college,
03:51she was immediately inspired
03:53not only by her ambition,
03:54but also by her business.
03:56Why did you come up with the concept of balance boarding?
03:59It's coming from something personal.
04:02Because I was healing something back then.
04:04And then, I was like,
04:05I need to find something that I can create
04:08that would put me in a sense of balance
04:12and get me back to that equilibrium.
04:15And then, I thought,
04:17since I love surfing,
04:19I love woodworks,
04:20I love art,
04:21because my sisters are also artists.
04:25And then, I was like,
04:27I can try.
04:28While studying in Manila,
04:30she often went to La Union.
04:32She told herself that one day,
04:34she would live here.
04:36That's why when her business started,
04:37she chose La Union as her destination.
04:41At what age did you start your business?
04:44I was 21.
04:4621.
04:47What were your challenges when you started your business?
04:52I think, first of all,
04:54is the excess noise.
04:56Because I'm a psychology major,
04:58so all of my friends were looking for jobs,
05:01getting their first jobs.
05:02I was also tempted that I should do it also
05:06because it definitely sets you on a path
05:09where you have a stable income right away.
05:12But then, I was like,
05:14you know, my heart was like,
05:16no.
05:17I'll just give it a try, friend.
05:18So, even though I was so afraid,
05:20I just had to give it a try.
05:22That's all.
05:23Give it a try.
05:24Franz had a hard time selling Balboa.
05:27It wasn't like a known thing.
05:29So, for example, you sold a T-shirt.
05:32It's already known.
05:33Okay, let's buy a T-shirt.
05:34Let's try a new design.
05:36This was really totally different.
05:38New, yes.
05:39Or probably even alien here in the Philippines.
05:42So, I was like, it's hard.
05:44But then, I was able to get on with it.
05:49But then, you always have to get back
05:51why you started in the first place.
05:54And then, second,
05:55align it with how you wish to live your days.
05:58Because we're all just passing through.
06:01So, we're not going to last forever here.
06:04Because of her perseverance,
06:06Franz was also able to find her target market.
06:09The first target market were the surfers.
06:12But then, as we went along the way,
06:14there were also a lot of markets.
06:16Like, people who want to start
06:19amping up their core workouts,
06:22their lifestyle,
06:23even those who do yoga,
06:25even people who just stay at home.
06:27She also used social media
06:29to promote her product.
06:31Because of this, Balboa was known all over the world.
06:35Lots of people are inquiring
06:37for international orders.
06:39And right now, the website is being upgraded
06:42so we can ship seamlessly everywhere.
06:45Okay.
06:46Balboa sells for Php 3,199 to Php 5,899
06:53depending on what's included in the set.
06:56You can buy it from their store in La Union
06:58or online.
07:00What's your biggest lesson in your business?
07:03You need to learn to regulate your own emotion.
07:07That's heavy!
07:09Why regulate your emotion?
07:11Because it's not just about getting money.
07:14It's also about what you're going to do with that.
07:17And also learning how to manage yourself
07:22and your income.
07:24Thanks to France's partnership in her business,
07:27her tip is to start strong.
07:30Let go of the excess noise,
07:32the worries in your mind.
07:34Okay.
07:35Just give it a try.
07:36Okay.
07:37It's okay to try when you're afraid.
07:39It's okay to risk.
07:40Recalibrate.
07:41Figure things out.
07:43Take your time.
07:44Just don't give up.

08:08Get involved.
