00:00 We're seeing an increase every week, every month and year on year about a thousand people
00:07 a month, a thousand households, a thousand transactions.
00:13 If each transaction equates to two to three to four people within a household you can
00:17 do the math there.
00:19 We're growing in demand because of the current cost of living crisis that we're going through.
00:28 Dollars have increased, our dollar's going less and less, our demand has increased.
00:34 We wouldn't be able to do this without our volunteers.
00:37 It is National Volunteer Week this week, so this week's all about celebrating our volunteers
00:44 and the amazing work that they do.
00:47 The theme this year is there's something for everyone and there's certainly something for
00:51 everyone at Foodcare to volunteer.
00:54 You can collect, you can work in the shop, you can drive the bus, you can attend to the
00:59 garden.
01:00 We have a community garden where we grow fruit and veg and pass those on for free to our
01:04 customers.
01:05 The way that Foodcare works is that you come into the shop, you spend $8 off the shelves
01:12 of product that we purchase from Foodbank, which is a charity in Sydney that we buy each
01:17 week and then you're entitled to all our free fruit and veg that we purchase and get donated.
01:24 That's all of the free bread.
01:25 We also have a voucher system for people in crisis.
01:29 With that voucher system, it's essentially a $10 or a $20 voucher that you can use as
01:34 cash and then we offer free meat, eggs and milk off the shelves as well.
01:40 We are on the back of National Volunteer Week this week, launching a winter appeal for staples
01:46 for our homeless kits, so spaghettis, beans, long life products including milk and rice
01:54 and pasta.
01:56 Anything that you may need in a crisis situation.
02:01 That's what we're all about at Foodcare, volunteering, giving back to the community and helping people
02:07 in financial hardship who are doing it tough at the moment.
