00:00 Here's today's Derbyshire Times video bulletin.
00:02 Dozens of people have been arrested across Derbyshire during a clampdown on burglaries.
00:08 Throughout the week of action, Safer Neighbourhood Team spoke to residents
00:12 across Derbyshire about home safety advice to ward off potential burglars.
00:15 During their patrols, officers, along with police community support officers,
00:20 also visited those who had previously been targeted by burglars to provide reassurance
00:25 about the ongoing work to tackle the crime, and provided additional security measures to
00:29 fit to their properties. A total of 58 arrests were made during the week of action, 18 of these
00:34 were for residential burglaries. Detective Chief Inspector Christopher Marriott, who is force lead
00:40 for Serious Acquisitive Crime, said "Having someone enter your home without your knowledge
00:44 can be devastating and very worrying. We want to reassure everyone throughout Derbyshire that
00:50 burglary is a key priority for us and that dedicated teams of detectives continue to
00:55 work hard to disrupt this type of criminality." A Derbyshire mum of four says she is so grateful
01:03 that she is part of a community that is so close, after losing everything in a suspected arson
01:08 attack on her home. It's been a week since Kelly Rutter awoke to find her car in flames and a
01:14 petrol can sitting on the roof. The fire quickly spread to her home in Beach Crescent, Killamarsh,
01:19 leaving nothing inside that was salvageable. But in that time, and as she tries to put her
01:23 family's life back together, Kelly says she has been overwhelmed at her community's willingness
01:28 to reach into their pockets and help her in her time of need. She said "Everyone's really come
01:33 through for me and my family. There's been a whip round, people have donated kids' clothes,
01:38 businesses have held raffles to raise money and Nethergreen's Working Men's Club are doing a
01:42 charity night. Lots of local businesses like Sweeping Beauty, M's Sarnies, the Killamarsh
01:48 Dinos Football Club and Sarah Care have raised money for us. We've got to start from scratch,
01:53 but I'm really overwhelmed and grateful that I'm part of a community that's so close.
01:57 I wouldn't even know where to start if I hadn't had everyone's support."
