00:00The opinion of the Senators on the Panukalang Divorce Bill is divided based on the survey conducted by Senator Gingoy Estrada.
00:07Others have no opinion and will study the Panukalang Divorce Bill first.
00:12Ma'am Gonzales has the floor.
00:17If the Panukalang Divorce Bill has passed the third and final reading in the House of Representatives,
00:22the Senate will go through a long process.
00:26For now, Senate Bill 2443 or the Dissolution of Marriage Act is in the Committee on Rules and is not yet debated in the plenary.
00:34However, Senate President Pro Tempore, Senator Gingoy Estrada, has already surveyed fellow Senators on the Divorce Bill.
00:56To Estrada's questions, there are six favors on the Divorce Bill.
00:59Those are Senators Lisa Contiveros, Robin Padilla, Grace Poe, Aimee Marcos, Pia Cayetano, and Raffy Tulfo.
01:07There are five contras.
01:08Senate President Cheese Escudero, Senator Gingoy Estrada, Francis Tolentino, Joel Villanueva, and Bato de la Rosa.
01:16Senate President Cheese Escudero used to say that he prefers the process of annulment to the process of divorce.
01:23The grounds were widened, but they did not give a way for the cases like this to be handled by the POW.
01:29So what will benefit from this is the rich who can pay their lawyers.
01:34It's easier for them.
01:36What about the poor women? I thought we were doing this for them.
01:39According to Estrada and Villanueva, part of their consideration is to be a Christian.
01:54How can this affect our Filipino families?
01:57Maybe there will be a drive-thru in all corners of the Philippines.
02:01If the husband and wife are fighting, they will separate.
02:04Maybe we are not ready for that.
02:06So we need to study this carefully.
02:09Contiveros said that he was sponsored by the Divorce Bill in the Senate.
02:12I'm willing to work with my colleagues across the aisle to come up with a divorce law acceptable to all.
02:18But of course, the needs of our countrymen should be centered.
02:23Especially our women who want to get away from toxic and abusive relationships.
02:30Senator JV Ejercito will listen to the upcoming discussions, but he is more likely to favor divorce now.
02:37Senator Sunny Angara and Bong Revilla are still not able to make a decision on the issue because they are still studying the bill.
02:45For GMA Integrated News, Maeve Gonzales, for Tutok 24 Horas.
