00:00And now another leaf has dropped in the wide receiver chase for the bag.
00:07I'm Mike Fisher, your trustee and trusted reporter.
00:10We are in Frisco, Texas, home of the Dallas Cowboys, where the Cowboys and
00:14C.D. Lamb obviously highly aware of what just happened in Minnesota Vikings.
00:18After a long wrestling match with Justin Jefferson, arguably the best receiver
00:22in football, have just done the deal.
00:23It's four years and the average per year is $35 million.
00:27That makes Justin Jefferson, on paper, the second highest paid player ever.
00:35I'll make it the highest paid player ever, not counting quarterbacks.
00:38$35 million is the biggest non-quarterback salary in football history.
00:43And the Vikings give him the bag and he's earned it.
00:47Now comes C.D.
00:48Lamb and the Jones family and their reasoning or their excuses, whatever
00:52you want to call it, on why they've waited and waited and waited on giving
00:55C.D.
00:55Lamb $30 million APY or more.
00:58And it's always going to, for two years, we've discussed that number.
01:02The idea of 30 million APY.
01:04Well, now that number theoretically just went up and the
01:06Cowboys are out of excuses.
01:08They talk, the Joneses do, about waiting for some leaves to fall.
01:11Well, this is a gigantic leaf, the Justin Jefferson deal.
01:16This obviously has ramifications, by the way, across the league.
01:19For instance, in Pittsburgh, where they talk about, the Steelers
01:23whisper about, trading for a wide receiver like Hayuk or Debo.
01:28Well, those guys are looking at the Jefferson contract too, and
01:32they're going to want to get paid.
01:33In the AFC North elsewhere, you check out what the Bengals are doing,
01:38where they've got a pair of wide receivers in Chase and Higgins.
01:43They both want to get paid.
01:44Now they're looking at this deal.
01:46So there are ramifications all across the league for what the Vikings and
01:50Jay just did to secure him and his long-term future in Minnesota.
01:55Now, the next shoe to drop because the leaf just dropped is the Cowboys
02:00with no more excuses and no more reasons to not accelerate their
02:05conversations with CeeDee Lamb.
02:07By the way, we reported at CowboysCountry.com that on the 29th, a couple
02:12of days ago, four days ago or so, the Cowboys did indeed kind of hit the
02:18gas pedal at least a little bit, or maybe turn the ignition at
02:21least a little bit on these talks.
02:23There is a timetable, a stated one, the Cowboys would like to get CeeDee Lamb
02:26done before we get to training camp on July 23rd or so, and of course,
02:30this week is mandatory mini-camp, and CeeDee Lamb has sat out OTAs.
02:36It's a holdout, even though they're voluntary.
02:39That may change things as well too, as we move forward in the week.
02:43In Frisco with the Cowboys.
02:44Fish out.
