Leeds United: Georginio Rutter breaks social media silence
Transcript
00:00 Moving away from that then if we look at well, I say look if we cautiously look back at the playoff final
00:08 Yeah, it wasn't a great day
00:11 Let's be honest for all all associated with Leeds United on the field things didn't go well
00:17 there was a lot of poor performances including one by
00:21 Routier of course who hasn't looked good for Leeds for some time. Let's be honest boats. He is
00:28 Let's be honest a quality player too and one that despite his recent dip in form you'd want to hold on to now
00:34 Yeah
00:34 We discussed before we started recording here that no one really from the the squad has said much to be honest
00:40 I like on their social media accounts, for example since the the the faithful day at Wembley
00:46 But now Georgina Routier has done that of course
00:49 He's got on social media and Lee you I believe know exactly what he's been saying
00:55 Yeah, I mean, it's not an awful lot but it is I mean it is telling really that obviously, you know
01:00 You normally get lots of posts from players and stuff or you know, you know for their PR companies or whatever
01:04 Whoever it's themselves. So however, they choose to do it in the aftermath of games
01:07 Well, I mean obviously there's more when there's a when there's a victory but but you know devastating for everybody losing the playoff finals
01:13 It's not surprising
01:14 But there was a lot of like quiet silence from the players afterwards
01:17 But Routier has been one of the first senior ones to come out Cooper Cooper was out straight away, you know
01:21 True captain leader, you know
01:22 I think he put something out within a couple of days or whatever about how proud he was of this club and that the
01:25 Club would bounce back. I'm sure the will the roots out
01:27 Yeah the weekends and with it with just social media posts basically not really saying the right lot
01:32 But even at the very very end saying sort of see you soon
01:35 I think that got a lot of people excited sort of thing, you know, because it started off addressed. Hello Leeds fans
01:40 Basically saying you know that like it's been a bit of I think it was like about a week after the defeat and that it's
01:45 Still extremely disappointing. It's obviously still hurting. There's no doubt about that
01:49 But as I say, I see you soon at the end and that kind of got people thinking, you know
01:52 You know, that's obviously him sort of saying he's gonna stick around then you can't read too much into things really
01:57 But I mean it does it sound it's more promising than not promising, isn't it?
02:00 Definitely and stuff and I know it's also on his Instagram story straight away
02:03 He was away on all that must have think it was Mauritius and he was there was a picture of him in the gym
02:07 And again, you know, I mean like you don't take too much to it
02:09 but he strikes me as someone who'll get his head down, you know and try and really bounce back from this and
02:14 basically to all extents and purposes that that sounds like you know that he's
02:18 Like probably gonna you know stay committed to the cause and and whatever and as I say try and bounce back and it would make
02:24 Sense as well for Routier to stay. I mean, there's no doubt about it this summer that big names will leave I mean
02:28 Somerville and Nantes over the two that you don't know because they might stay but they're the two would make most sense
02:34 I would think you know
02:35 They're both gonna get in hefty fees and they're the two that I think most people including us would expect to go
02:40 Archie Gray's obviously gonna be a massive massive demand and that would be the real heartbreaker if he was to leave this summer
02:46 But hopefully it's can keep hold of him, you know, wait and see what happens with that
02:49 But Routier's you're the one that you would expect there to be big interest in
02:53 Yeah, probably you're right not based on his performances towards the end of the season
02:56 But he went for sort of like hernias surgery came back from that and that kind of just seemed to totally like stall his momentum
03:02 Really the same as it did with the teams and he hasn't got the same play
03:05 It didn't look the same prayer in the last few games apart from the odd little flash
03:08 But the season as a whole I mean, there's so many games where I've watched him and like you were just toying with defences
03:13 Particularly this at this level, you know
03:14 Like defenders didn't really know what to do with him. I mean sometimes wonder what if George knows what he's gonna do next himself
03:20 You know, is that sort of impulsive player just like twisting and turning but he's got unbelievable skill on him
03:25 Obviously he needs to sort of like sort of shooting out a little bit
03:28 I mean he does miss chances and you know, that's but he's still young as well
03:30 Obviously, he's only 22 and people forget that so he's definitely someone leads want to be keeping hold of and the thing is it just makes
03:37 sense because obviously with him if somebody's gonna come in from which they might well do and as I said
03:41 They might well be interested in based on those performances
03:43 I mean if leads sell him then unless they get an astronomic bid, they're gonna basically be making a loss on him
03:49 You got remember this is record signing territory 35 million pounds and you can't really say anybody coming in with a bid
03:54 Anywhere near that realistically someone might try and chance to run and get him on the cheap, but hopefully not
03:59 I think personally that he could potentially be a lot better next season even better
04:05 Which is quite an exciting sort of thing to say
04:07 I suppose if you base it on how good he was at his best this season because he's still new to the league a
04:13 Still young he's still only 22
04:15 Be he's had what 18 months in the game because obviously came in when leads were fighting relegation in the January transfer window and that
04:21 Wasn't ideal far from ideal now. He's had this heartbreak as well to go with but he's you know
04:26 I think he'd be a resilient character and someone will bounce back Daniel Farker and Patrick Bamford is on as one of his podcasters said
04:33 Before that he's the sort of player that can get himself down very quickly, you know
04:37 Like if you try something it doesn't come off
04:38 He can then almost try too hard and stuff and so you wonder like how this will hit him like in particular of all the players
04:44 route air how the heartbreak will hit him but
04:47 You know even just putting that little post out and the fact that you sort of like you can tell he's getting his head down
04:51 And stuff I think you know, he's he's a clever bloke as well
04:54 I think you'll get his head down and he'll bounce back strongly
04:56 So yeah, it's so dangerous to say, you know
04:59 predict anything this summer in terms of who's gonna stay and who's gonna go I mean it just it really could on food just
05:06 Don't know how it's gonna unfold but at this stage anyway bearing in mind as I say the transfer fee leads paid for in the contracts
05:12 He signed the initial signs were seeing and stuff and what he's got to offer it
05:16 It would suggest that it's looking reasonably positive, which should be big new big boost for leads, obviously
05:21 It's amazing what football fans latch on to at times on social media isn't it?
05:25 When you see a player just like, you know, three words at the end of a end of a pose anything
05:29 Oh my gosh, that could mean anything. Yeah
05:34 I think people probably just you know, like it's better than not I suppose it's probably thinking a it's better than not putting anything
05:40 You know and then obviously someone just being absent for ages and not be you expect players to need a bit of time after that
05:45 But you know, that's the sort of thing
05:48 That doesn't strike me as a sort of post you'd put out if you saw thinking I'm getting the hell out of there
05:52 You know and things can very very quickly change with offers and whatever but to me that sort of suggested, you know
05:56 Anyway, like it was looking reasonably rosy for next season
05:59 but I mean you're totally right like probably we probably read too much into anything and
06:03 That nothing was surprised this summer. Nothing. Nothing. Well, nothing. Nothing ever surprises at Leeds United. Let's be honest
06:08 So we shall wait and see but hopefully hopefully it's looking good. Yeah
06:12 Yeah, very true
