What do you think of pedestrianising Surrey Street in Sheffield? Vox pop
Transcript
00:00 Pedestrianisation of all city centres is a good thing for a start. Surrey Street particularly I think would benefit from it because of its location, because it's so tight into there.
00:14 I see no reason why you can't make allowances for wedding cars, but not a whole stream of them, but just the bride. That's not going to create any problems.
00:27 In terms of bike lanes in general, which is always an issue, they're not connected. You need a clear path and suddenly the bike lane stops and appears on the other side of the road, which is a dual carriageway and you're thinking how the hell do I get across there.
00:47 And the other thing is that if you're going to ride a bike into the city centre, you need a secure place to park it. I've had a bike nicked. £4,000 worth of e-bike and it's painful. You don't want it to happen and that's the critical issue I think.
01:09 I mean the whole thing's a bit chaotic anyway. It's just not very functional and it's all a bit cornered off, isn't it? So we kind of need more, again, more spaces to be able to walk and a place where people can be able to park and go to the weddings and stuff and come back out rather than being in chaos as is.
01:33 Would you approve of pedestrianising Surrey Street?
01:37 Yeah, I would go with that. That would be really nice.
01:42 Why?
01:43 Because it's more freedom and more able to get around where we want to go to rather than having to be diverted all the time and having to be around dangerous areas and places that aren't safe.
