What do you think of how quiet it is in Sheffield city centre now?
Transcript
00:00I certainly like a silent city, yes. Why? I guess noise pollution. Kind of annoying,
00:07right? To have traffic. Yeah, that's much nicer. What do you hear? People walking.
00:16Bit of construction in the background still. The water. Just much more peaceful, yeah.
00:24And do you think that cities should be noisy and bustling and that's a sign of a city?
00:34I mean, it's part of a city, sure, but it doesn't have to be everywhere.
00:42And what's your favourite sound?
00:45What's my favourite sound? I don't know, my own voice, maybe.
00:49And noise-wise, it's a much more attractive place.
00:56Whether that's enough to outweigh the harder access to get here, I don't know.
01:03I'm gonna be on the fence on that one. It's a very different city from the one I left in 1973.
01:12What are your favourite sounds in a city, what you say?
01:18I like hearing people talk. I like listening to snippets of conversation that other people use.
01:24And obviously, having left Sheffield so many years ago, you hear bits of old Sheffield
01:29being spoken on the street and I find myself slipping into it a little bit, you know.
01:34That knows what I mean.
01:36It's great to be silent. I like to hear all the shouting and bawling and
01:41busses and all that. It's all good.
01:45What do you like about it?
01:48It's a lot bussier.
01:49It's just, well, it's just quieter and better. It's much better.
