00:00This staff also low-key has a couple legitimate head coaching candidates for the future in Sacco.
00:06You know, Joe Sacco's been a head coach at the NHL level before.
00:09Jay Leach, you know, at the AHL level, candidate to be a head coach at the NHL level.
00:16Both young. So I think it's an interesting staff of like, you know.
00:20And Chris Kelly too.
00:21Chris Kelly for sure.
00:23Poke the Bear is powered by PrizePix,
00:26the exclusive daily fantasy partner of the CLNS Media Network.
00:32And welcome into Poke the Bear episode 237 presented by PrizePix.
00:36Go use that promo code CLNS to get up to $100 cash back on that first deposit.
00:43If you're picking Celtics stuff, different, you know, Jason Tatum more or less points,
00:48Jaylen Brown more or less points, Derek White.
00:51Chris stops when he was in. You're probably doing pretty well on there.
00:54So hopefully continue that prior to game four.
00:57And if you want to go to game four, if you want to go down to Dallas,
00:59everyone's talking about the resale value of the tickets in Dallas
01:03plus a flight is less than what it would be for like game five here, which I think is true.
01:08That's not surprising.
01:09It isn't. It's not.
01:11Go to game time. Use that promo code CLNS to get $20 off your first purchase.
01:16Terms apply.
01:17Also, if you want to go to that watch party for game four at the garden,
01:21it's not like my cup of tea, but it's basically like you're at the game.
01:26I mean, you're there with a bunch of fans.
01:29If my friends were all going, I could be convinced for sure.
01:32But you can get tickets there on game time.
01:35So go to game time. Use the promo code CLNS to get $20 off that first purchase.
01:40Terms apply. I'm Evan Marinovsky.
01:42That is Connor Ryan.
01:43Connor, what is up?
01:46Evan, I'm doing well. How are you doing?
01:48Doing great. Doing great.
01:50You had quite the Wednesday night. How was the Brady ceremony?
01:53I have to say it exceeded my expectations.
01:56I think maybe it's just the, I don't know, maybe the sarcastic, the, you know,
02:01I think most people go into those things thinking it's going to be just all fluff or it's going to
02:05be, you know, the way like some of those things can be set up where it's a very long ceremony.
02:12But I exceeded my expectations, Evan.
02:14I think all the speeches were great.
02:17A lot of good surprises.
02:18And what it kind of took from it is like, obviously it was Brady's big day, but
02:22it kind of felt like a tribute and a reflection on kind of the entire dynasty.
02:26So like, whether it's like Randy Moss getting moved to T.S. with like an ovation,
02:30all these other players who play key roles for 20 years of dominance
02:35to kind of get their flowers, get their ovations in front of a packed Gillette Stadium.
02:40And some of the other things, right?
02:41Like you had Drew Bledsoe there.
02:43You had Jay-Z show up.
02:44You had Kenny Chesney.
02:46Yeah, that was pretty crazy.
02:49It felt like a nice bow on, you know, what?
02:51Bill Belichick got the ovation before he spoke, like that stuff.
02:55Exactly.
02:55Yeah.
02:56So it doesn't make me mad that that dumbass Netflix special was before this.
03:01It does feel like if this was the first time Belichick came out
03:04and had like a, like an embrace with Brady, it would have hit even more.
03:07It was still awesome.
03:08Like the ovation and all that stuff was great.
03:10But that stupid Netflix special kind of took some of the thunder away from it.
03:15But as a whole, you know, for what was
03:18such a, I think, significant part of, I think, all of our lives in terms of growing up here
03:21and every Sunday being able to relax as the Brady and the Patriots would drop 40 on the bills.
03:27Yeah.
03:28Relive that and I think appreciate that and kind of put a final bow on that 20 year run.
03:34Was it very cool to be a part of?
03:35It's easy to go into those things being like, all right, let's see what,
03:38you know, like you look at some of those things like the Red Sox ceremonies,
03:41they go on forever and just you have some eye rolly kind of moments there.
03:45This one, I think, hit on all the right notes and it was very, very cool to be a part of it.
03:49I think the best thing is they did it in the off season.
03:51It was an event in and of itself.
03:52It wasn't prior to a game.
03:55You know, you went for that.
03:57The only, you know, knock was it was the night of game for the NBA finals.
04:01That's the tough thing.
04:02And but three, that's right.
04:04That's right.
04:05Game three.
04:06Um, I mean, I didn't I didn't watch it.
04:08I was actually in Foxborough during this, just not at that.
04:12I was at Fox Sportsville.
04:13Oh, damn.
04:14No, no, no.
04:15I was at the Fox Sports Center for the Poxborough Prep League during the summer.
04:19It was there with Mark Diver.
04:20So we were catching up.
04:22We were putting together our Bruins lineups for this upcoming year.
04:25I mean, I don't I don't know, Evan.
04:26I hear rumors that when you're not over at the Foxborough Center,
04:30we hear that you always hang around Toby Keese.
04:33I love this bar bar.
04:35Oh, I can't help it.
04:36It's just too good.
04:37I can't get away from it.
04:39Evan, his red solo company levitates off the ground for a few minutes.
04:43Like the Baron in Dune when he goes across the.
04:45Yes.
04:46Yes, exactly.
04:47I just watched it for the first time the other night, by the way.
04:50Great film.
04:50A little weird.
04:52Weird, hard to follow.
04:53I fell asleep probably like four times in the first like hour because it's not the biggest
04:57sci fi movie guy, but I rebounded and I I kept looking up everything during the movie to try
05:02to understand it.
05:03I watched the thing after.
05:04So I get it.
05:04I'm ready to watch Dune, too.
05:06As you say, I'm always behind these these things.
05:08I'm never like ahead of it.
05:10I see these films and TV shows years later.
05:12So I mean, what came out in what, 2021?
05:16Like, that's not that bad.
05:17If it wasn't like Breaking Bad or like I ruined your life by saying insert redacted character
05:23name here was deceased at the end of it.
05:25But yeah, well, that was different.
05:28That was different.
05:29I forgot about that one.
05:31I had a funny Wednesday night, though.
05:33So this is a CLNS tie in.
05:35So when I got home from the prep league, I was watching the Celtics game three and I
05:40listened on the radio coming home and they Grandy and Max are electric.
05:46I mean, that is a hell of a like Cedric Maxwell.
05:50You know, when you like talking to the mic, like if you're on Xbox or PlayStation with
05:53some friends and you put the mic like right here, he'll put them.
05:56I swear it's like the mic is right there and he's screaming into it whenever something
05:59big happens, which honestly is great because it's not in my ears.
06:02It's in the car.
06:04So anyway, I come in after that third quarter Celtics are up a million and I walk in and
06:08there's a whole bunch of people at my house watching and I'm like, I've seen enough.
06:11It's over.
06:12The game is over.
06:13The series is over.
06:14And of course, the Celtics almost blew it the fourth in that fourth quarter.
06:16Yes, yes.
06:18But anyway, so I go upstairs.
06:19I'm playing MLB the show and I'm watching the Garden Report, which is the like, you
06:24know, we do Bruins postgame shows.
06:25They do Celtics postgame shows.
06:27They get a lot of viewers and they do after like every game.
06:31And there's a bunch of people that go on.
06:32So I'm just, you know, just does Carl Corsini jump on that, too?
06:35Does he bring the whiteboard?
06:36He should have.
06:37He should have.
06:37Yes.
06:38He breaks down the pick and roll.
06:39He does.
06:40He does a triangle offense.
06:41He's like, here's how they're taking away the corner threes for Dallas.
06:48Yeah, exactly.
06:48And the best thing was, so I'm sitting there and Jimmy Toscano was promoting is like hard
06:53hats.
06:53They have these cool hard hats that are selling now.
06:56And I commented, you know, hard hat stays on during sex.
07:00And they put it on for everybody to see.
07:04And all the comments, I mean, come on now.
07:07I mean, I had to say it.
07:08It came to my head.
07:09I had to say it.
07:09It was it was a late night.
07:10It was like 12 o'clock.
07:12And so John Zanis text me on the side and says, just jump on.
07:15Jump on with us.
07:16And I'm like, do you really like you really want me to jump on like this Celtics?
07:20I know nothing.
07:21I'm not good at basketball.
07:22And I jumped on for like, you know, 10, 15 minutes.
07:25The comment section either didn't know who I was or thought I was like seven years old.
07:30So it's a nice blend.
07:32There was a couple like hockey socks.
07:34I was like, come on, guys.
07:35Like, you know, have respect.
07:37You thought you were jumping in there.
07:38You are you going to be like Dr.
07:42Strange showing up with the portals and Avengers?
07:45That's like that's like if you showed up to the portal scene, they're like, who the fuck
07:48are you?
07:48Who are you like Charles Barkley showing up on the NHL set?
07:52Oh, yes.
07:53And everybody like it's called Barkley's here.
07:54It was like, oh, Evan's here.
07:56Yeah, I would.
07:58I would have been hyped, Evan, if I saw it.
08:00Well, I appreciate it, but it was fun.
08:03I think I turned some people onto my side.
08:05Hopefully they'll come subscribe to Bruins rink side.
08:07And so that was fun.
08:08It was a fun time.
08:10Good times for all.
08:12We're almost eight minutes in.
08:12We haven't even touched the Bruins.
08:13It was such a big night on Wednesday for Boston sports.
08:17You had the Brady ceremony.
08:19You had the Celtics.
08:20One went away from the finals.
08:21You had the Red Sox.
08:22They did do something.
08:23They won a game.
08:24They won a game.
08:25I think they came back.
08:26So good for them.
08:29Congrats, guys.
08:30And the biggest news.
08:32Yes, Jay Leach is back.
08:34Jay Leach is back in black and gold.
08:38Jay Leach is an assistant now on Montgomery staff.
08:42Joe Sacco has been promoted to associate head coach.
08:45And John McClain, who was an assistant before,
08:48who comes from a skills and skating background,
08:51is going to go back into sort of a position like that.
08:56Clearly a good hire.
08:56I mean, Leach was sort of, you know,
08:58he's the Providence head coach for quite a bit.
09:01I believe he was a name that was mentioned
09:02for the job after Cassidy left.
09:05So I think just having him on the staff,
09:07like, I think this is a good hire.
09:09Yeah, absolutely.
09:10I mean, I think one, Jay Leach is a pretty accomplished coach.
09:13As you said, I think, you know, before he,
09:15even after he went to the Kraken,
09:19held in high regard here,
09:20especially was viewed as like a potential coach in waiting.
09:23Still only 44 years old.
09:25So in terms of adding more talent to the coaching staff,
09:28I think that's great.
09:28But also I think in terms of,
09:30I think it kind of settles everyone's roles a little bit more
09:33and it's more clearly defined, right?
09:34Because it's not like they're, you know,
09:36I think a lot of the headlines,
09:37I think even the one I wrote was like,
09:39Bruins reshuffle their coaching staff, which is true.
09:41Like they reshuffle, they move guys around,
09:43but it does seem like it's putting more people in spots
09:46where it's kind of their forte, right?
09:49Like you look at Joe Sacco gets promotion,
09:51he's still going to be running the PK,
09:53which is obviously what he's been known for, for a while.
09:56But, you know, he primarily did a lot
09:58with the defenseman last year.
09:59And again, he's a forward.
10:00And it's not to say you can't do that.
10:02But when you have someone like Jay Leach,
10:04who was a defenseman,
10:06is that was kind of his bread and butter
10:07throughout his career as a coach
10:10to have him come back and get the reins of the defense.
10:12You put Joe Sacco in a spot where he can be
10:14kind of a more of an overarching guy.
10:17And then even John McLean, right?
10:18Where he moves back to the skills and scheme department,
10:20but it's not really like a demotion or anything.
10:23Like he was, that was kind of his focus last year
10:26when he was a coach.
10:27And he was an eye in the sky coach during games as well.
10:30So, you know, he's just kind of,
10:31I think putting another spot over here.
10:33Again, his strengths and his talent can be
10:35probably maximized with working with this team
10:37as opposed to just being on the coaching staff.
10:39So I think, yeah, you look at just bringing in
10:42a talented coach like Jay Leach, obviously helps.
10:45I think it's still held in pretty high regard here.
10:48But I think more than that, just bringing him in
10:50just seems like it slots everyone in the proper spot
10:52where whatever their focus or their emphasis is as coaches.
10:58I think it just benefits the Bruins that much more.
11:01This staff also low-key has a couple legitimate
11:04head coaching candidates for the future in Sacco.
11:07You know, Joe Sacco has been a head coach
11:08at the NHL level before.
11:11Jay Leach, you know, at the AHL level,
11:14candidate to be a head coach at the NHL level, both young.
11:19So I think it's an interesting staff of like-
11:21Chris Kelly, too.
11:23Chris Kelly, for sure.
11:25And I think it's interesting, one, because Kelly always gets-
11:27I know with Ottawa, Kelly was kind of mentioned on Twitter
11:29as like a guy, you know, played there for a bit.
11:32You know, would he be a candidate?
11:33Wouldn't shock me if after this year,
11:35things change in the sense that like one of them gets a job.
11:39And if, you know, in the next couple of years
11:42or just the way the NHL head coaching carousel works,
11:46if, you know, down the road, Jim Montgomery is let go,
11:49you might have your answer in-house.
11:52So I think that's another element to it as well.
11:54Not saying Jim Montgomery's getting fired.
11:56He's not.
11:57I'm just saying that, you know, the way the league works,
11:59coaches don't last very long.
12:02You never know.
12:03You just, you never know.
12:04So you do have the in-house guys there.
12:09So good on him.
12:10He gets to return after a little rendezvous out to Seattle.
12:13Now he's back and back where he belongs, I guess.
12:17So good for him.
12:18Congrats to him.
12:20And it looks like a pretty strong coaching staff.
12:22There's more, you know, we've talked a lot about the Bruins
12:26going for the number 10 pick with the New Jersey Devils.
12:29But there's another team in the top 10
12:33who is considering trading their pick.
12:35And they just so happen to also need a goalie.
12:40But first, a quick word from our friends over at PrizePicks.

13:56Again, use code CLNS for a first deposit match of up to $100.
14:02PrizePicks, pick more, pick less.
14:05It's that easy.
14:06Now let's get back to the show.
14:07So a team we've talked about in the past is Ottawa.
14:12You know, they've been interested in Lena Solmark,
14:15but they also have the number seven pick in the NHL draft.
14:17They also have your pick.
14:19They have the Bruins pick at 25.
14:24They got in the Dubrinka trade that went to Detroit.
14:26So you gotta like do the Charlie Kelly, like, you know.
14:28Remember the clip of Bill Belichick and Tom Brady
14:31where they're trying to devise how to beat Ed Reed
14:34and Belichick sits back in his chair and he's like,
14:36oh, so like it goes here and then it goes like here.
14:39That's kind of how you have to like map out this.
14:41The trade tree, yes.
14:45How it went around.
14:47But so anyway, according to the fourth period,
14:51one of the execs of the senators said,
14:54quote, we had interest in the number seven pick.
14:56Teams will call you and say,
14:58are you interested in moving the pick?
14:59And you don't know what that's going to look like
15:02because you don't know what's going to be available there.
15:04You have to stay very flexible.
15:06The fourth period, and that was quoted by the Ottawa Citizen.
15:08The fourth period wrote this,
15:09but the interview is with the Ottawa Citizen.
15:12The senators could move back in the draft
15:14or trade the pick entirely for immediate help.
15:16The uncertainty in who could be available
15:18at the number seven slot adds to the mystery.
15:21And the senators meant, or, you know,
15:22Poulin mentioned that the senators,
15:26no celebrities going one,
15:27but after that it is completely wide open,
15:29which is true, it is.
15:30I mean, Lev Shanoff from Michigan State
15:33seems like a pretty obvious pick at number two.
15:35But even after that, it gets, it opens up.
15:38I saw there was a mock draft yesterday by The Athletic
15:40that Caden Lindstrom going fourth.
15:42Fourth, yeah.
15:43Yeah, other spots, he's been like 14th.
15:46So I think it's open.
15:48You see Iserman go,
15:50I saw one that had him seven or eight,
15:51then I saw one that had him at 21.
15:54You have the Denver defenseman
15:56who is all over the top 10.
15:58The good thing for the Bruins is,
15:59probably I guess Sherman ahead,
16:00if they do get a top 10 pick,
16:02is that it does seem like it's very heavy.
16:04You got celebritie one,
16:05then a lot of like defensemen and wings
16:08are all kind of making a majority of the top 10,
16:11which I don't know if maybe that's,
16:13you want more top 10 centers,
16:14but it does seem like if you get between seven and 10,
16:18there's probably going to be one or,
16:19the second or the third or the fourth,
16:21probably center on the draft board
16:22is probably going to be there for you.
16:24Yeah, like I saw like Berkeley Caden
16:26in that draft that Lindstrom went fourth,
16:28went like 12th.
16:29And he was initially pegged as the guy higher.
16:32So like, I think there are different options.
16:36But I don't mind it.
16:37Like I'm all for it.
16:38Like get in there, get a high-end player,
16:41get your hand, you know, develop them,
16:43all that stuff.
16:44Like I'm for it.
16:45And now if they got Cole Iserman,
16:46I mean, that would be awesome.
16:47Be you guy, new report, mask guy.
16:50Speaking of locals,
16:51I mentioned this in the Jay Leach segment.
16:53Yes, congrats to Ryan Warsofsky,
16:56next head coach of the Sharks from Marshfield.
17:00Congratulations to Ryan Warsofsky
17:02for getting the big promotion to the Sharks bench boss.
17:06But the senators, it's interesting
17:07because senators, this is according to the fourth period,
17:10have been evaluating the gold tending market as well.
17:13GM Steve Sayos has reached out
17:14to the New Jersey Devils about Markstrom.
17:18Lena Solmark and National Predators,
17:20UC Soros, apparently I can't read.
17:23However, the senators have wanted
17:24to move Jonas Corposalo in a deal.
17:26And that seems to be a sticking point.
17:28I don't know how that would work with them.
17:29Yeah, I don't know who the hell wants Corposalo.
17:32Anybody want Jonas?
17:34Anybody want Jonas?
17:35Here he is, we're dangling him.
17:38By the way, that person who was speaking
17:39in the quotes was Senator Senior Vice President Dave Poulin.
17:42I should also mention that.
17:45So, I mean, again, we've talked about this
17:47with the number 10 pick.
17:49Could the Devils be desperate enough
17:51to do a number 10 for Olmark swap?
17:54I think the same question goes with the senators.
17:56It seems like they want Lena Solmark.
17:58I think the sticking point in this kind of trade,
18:00I think they probably would do that.
18:02I mean, it sounds like they would give more
18:04from what other execs or another exec has said.
18:07But would Lena Solmark accept a trade to Ottawa?
18:10That's the biggest thing.
18:10And I think like New Jersey,
18:12I think you have a better chance than not.
18:15I don't know about Ottawa.
18:17Yeah, no, I agree.
18:18I think that is the biggest sticking point.
18:20I just can't see Olmark signing off on a trade out there.
18:25Because again, unless it's something
18:28where you have a long-term deal locked up there.
18:30But again, if you're Olmark,
18:32you're trying to pick where your next spot is going to be.
18:33And you look at Ottawa and they play, what is it?
18:36Like 35 minutes outside of the city.
18:40Doesn't really get high marks.
18:42That's a team that has some good pieces,
18:45but they're not like the Devils
18:47where you look at just the talent they have.
18:49And you'd be like, all right,
18:50maybe they're a goalie away.
18:51There's so many of these teams that we've talked about
18:52with Olmark as possible fits where it just does seem
18:57like they're just one piece or two
18:58from being a legitimate contender.
19:01Even like, there's other teams people have mentioned
19:03where again, maybe they're not a proven contender,
19:06but if he goes there and it's a place where like,
19:08again, it's where NHL players go
19:10and they settle down with their families.
19:12Like Raleigh is a popular place
19:13for a lot of guys to settle down.
19:15Even like Columbus, where that team is not
19:17a good team right now, but who knows
19:19what Don Waddell wants to do there.
19:21That's a team that has a lot of people
19:22settle down in the Columbus area.
19:24You don't really hear that about Ottawa all that much.
19:27So I just think you look at all the multiple factors
19:30that I'm sure going through Olmark's head is,
19:33you know, he kind of figures out what his next step is.
19:36I just can't see Ottawa being that spot now.
19:38Like the Bruins find out that the number seven pick
19:40is there one for one or for something like that.
19:43I wouldn't do it if it's bringing back Corporate Solo
19:45because I think he stinks and I don't like it.
19:47I have no, I have no interest in that.
19:49No, but I think beyond just looking
19:52at that number seven pick in Ottawa,
19:54I think it just reinforces that maybe
19:56the Olmark market is something that is higher than we thought.
20:00I feel like we talked about this right as the year ended
20:04and we're like, all right, like if they get
20:05two second round picks, you know,
20:06the biggest thing is just the cap space.
20:08That's great.
20:09Look at it now and you look at just who's out there,
20:12what are being rumored as being possible trade shifts,
20:14whether it's a top 10 pick, whether it's an impact player,
20:17like, you know, Marty Natchez or something like that.
20:21It's going to be fascinating to see
20:22just how this market pans out.
20:24Because like I feel like what happens
20:25if Olmark does get traded
20:26and it is for a high second round pick
20:29and another prospect, again, nice return for an asset
20:33that you don't plan on having a long term.
20:35But you see all these rumors,
20:36you feel like people are going to get let down
20:38if it's not a 25 goal scorer
20:41or a top 10 pick or anything like that.
20:43It just feels like the market is so tough to gauge.
20:45That's the thing.
20:46I think if it ends up coming in a little bit less,
20:48people are going to be like,
20:48what were you guys talking about?
20:50This was so underwhelming.
20:51And it's like, well, these were the rumors.
20:54And I think also it's silly season.
20:56And so the lead up to the draft is it is.
20:58We get to imagine, which is fun.
21:00Also, if it was a second rounder
21:02and like a high prospect.
21:05That's not bad.
21:06Like, I mean, that's not great.
21:07I mean, it's not that it's not great.
21:09It's not like my ideal scenario,
21:11because my ideal scenario is you trade him
21:13for the number 10 pick seven pick.
21:16And it's like, holy crap, we're in the top 10 now.
21:19If you're the Bruins.
21:21But if it was a second rounder and a high prospect,
21:24that's two, two.
21:27He's got two higher end prospects
21:30coming into your system.
21:31And I'm OK with that too.
21:32So I want the cap space.
21:35I want an infusion of one or two higher end players.
21:39And if it's top 10 pick, awesome.
21:41I think that that's terrific.
21:43I just think in this situation,
21:44I think seven is, that's not happening.
21:47Just in the sense that,
21:49I don't think he's accepting a trade to Ottawa.
21:51I just don't.
21:52I don't see it.
21:53I don't see it.
21:54All the things you said.
21:55And I also think the team in front of him
21:56is not good enough.
21:57Like one thing we've talked about in the past
21:59is if you go to a Carolina or New Jersey
22:01or Colorado or in LA,
22:03you know, you have a chance to go to a really good team
22:05and put up good numbers.
22:07Who was the last goalie in Ottawa?
22:09I know they haven't had amazing goaltending.
22:10Like who was the last goalie in Ottawa
22:12to put up like top 10 in the NHL numbers?
22:15Like, I honestly, I cannot remember.
22:16Was it Craig Anderson?
22:18Like top 10 too.
22:21They've had like some guys
22:21who obviously have gone on like runs
22:23and have had good little stretches here,
22:25but like top 10.
22:26Oh, I mean, I, again, they're not,
22:29they've not been a good defensive team for a while.
22:32And I just think that that also doesn't bode well
22:34along with the location.
22:37And I don't think they're sort of in NHL no man's land
22:41with that team.
22:41Like, you know, they have good young players coming up.
22:43Everybody wants Brady Kachuk,
22:45but like contending next year.
22:49I don't know.
22:50I don't know.
22:51So yeah.
22:52I mean, again, it's a fun thing to think about
22:53the number seven pick,
22:54but am I in that number 10 pick with New Jersey?
22:58I think that's the,
22:59that's the sweet spot on the baseball bat.

24:57Now let's get back to the show.
24:58So fun little story.
25:00This is years ago now,
25:01but Evander Kane was on the part
25:03of my take podcast a couple of days ago
25:06and mentioned that when he KO'd Matt Cook,
25:09the Bruins sent him a gift basket.
25:11I think that's amazing.
25:13That's outstanding.
25:14And then to think of kind of
25:16Evander Kane's relationship after that
25:17with the Bruins soured,
25:18but for a fleeting second.
25:20He was on their good side.
25:22I mean, that was also
25:23that was also, I think,
25:24like less than a month
25:25or maybe just a little over a month
25:26after the the Matt Cook hit on survived.
25:29So it was like right after that.
25:30The Bruins fans are still pissed
25:31about how that whole thing
25:32went down, obviously.
25:33Then you got what I think was
25:34rookie Evander Kane there.
25:36I want to say it was,
25:37I think that the thrashers
25:38last game of the season too.
25:39So like literally Matt Cook's
25:41final game to close out
25:43the regular season just gets
25:44walloped one punished by Evander Kane.
25:46Was that the last game of the season?
25:49It was.
25:49I'm sure that that was what?
25:512010.
25:51So Penguins obviously
25:52went into the playoffs,
25:53but it was like April
25:5510th or something like that.
25:56April 7th, something like that.
25:59When that game was so
26:02video is great.
26:02Still one, you got to throw back
26:04thrashers jerseys, which
26:05feels like the NHL
26:06wants to go back to Atlanta.
26:08I don't know why, but that's
26:10that's topic for another another day.
26:12But I just think you look at
26:15that video and
26:16it's not surprising at all to see
26:17that the Bruins maybe sent him
26:18a little little gift basket.
26:19Maybe it was Dunkin Donuts
26:21gift card couple of flowers.
26:24Something like that.
26:25Not surprising based on just
26:27how much you know we were
26:28talking about all time Bruins
26:30sports Bruins villains.
26:32Matt Cook's gonna be right up there.
26:33I was like going through like
26:34all the other plays he had right
26:35where he elbowed Ryan McDonough.
26:37Remember he like stepped on
26:38Carlson's heel when he like
26:41severed his.
26:41Yes, like that.
26:42Yeah, yeah.
26:44That pretty shitty player.
26:46So there were now in hockey.
26:48I believe there is a little protector
26:51you can put on your Achilles
26:52to protect from things
26:54like that happening.
26:54But it's fluke plays.
26:55That was intentional
26:57when he stepped on his Achilles.
26:58That was as bad as it gets.
27:00Such a scumbag.
27:03And I just the way he played.
27:06He was a jackass on the ice.
27:08And when that Evander that fight
27:10because Cook was going after Kane.
27:11I was just watching the video
27:13that as you were talking and like
27:15Cook goes after Kane and he's like,
27:16alright, you want to go?
27:17Like, let's do it.
27:18And just like boom,
27:20like it was such a just clean too.
27:24And Cook went right out.
27:25Cook went right out.
27:27I think I think at the end
27:28of that video to Kane
27:30mentions that the very next time
27:31they met he got a high elbow from Cook
27:33and then Cook wouldn't fight him.
27:34So that's the other YouTube video.
27:36There's a YouTube video right after
27:37that.
27:37It's like, you know,
27:38Cook elbows Kane up high.
27:40The other thing I found
27:41interesting from that interview
27:42is reading your story in Boston.com
27:44that Kane has watched the video
27:46like 300 times.
27:47Respect.
27:48You always feel like hockey players.
27:49Like, I'm pretty humble
27:50about those things.
27:51I want these guys to be watching
27:52these videos like 500 times
27:54when that happens.
27:54Like, man, I watch that shit
27:56before I go to bed every night.
27:57To watch Tori Krug obliterating
27:59Robert Thomas.
27:59Like, how many times
28:00do you watch that video?
28:02Yes, 100%.
28:04Speaking of Krug,
28:05I saw somewhere and I don't know
28:07if it's real or not.
28:08So like, you know,
28:09this is tough stuff, man.
28:10This isn't on the show agenda.
28:11But I don't know if there's rumors
28:13or something out of the St.
28:14Louis about them buying Krug out.
28:19I don't know how real it is,
28:21but would you take him back
28:22at a lower price?
28:25I mean, listen, I love
28:27I love Tori Krug's game.
28:28I love what he provided here
28:29as a veteran.
28:30I don't know.
28:32I just think you look at where
28:33Laura is and what he provides
28:35and Krug bring him back on a cheap deal
28:37would be awesome.
28:38Like just having him here
28:39is like a third pairing
28:40kind of guy on the left side.
28:42But I feel like that's going to cut
28:43into what you hope Laura built into.
28:46So again, if you want him
28:47back on a cheap deal, like.
28:49You explore that option, I guess.
28:51But you look at just what his role is,
28:53what his strengths are
28:54at this stage of his career
28:55and what you hope
28:56Mason Laura develops into.
28:58And again, I also don't feel
28:59like Tori Krug at this stage
29:00of his career is going to be like,
29:01all right, and here's the time
29:02of my career where I'm signing
29:04the one million dollar cap hit deal.
29:06Like he still can probably be
29:07a very coveted asset for a team
29:08that needs like a power play,
29:10you know, quarterback
29:11right at the top of the list.
29:12So listen, Krug's great player.
29:15I just don't feel like he fits
29:16with what this team needs right now,
29:18especially with Laura here.
29:19Laurie wasn't here.
29:21Screw it.
29:21Bring him back as the
29:22just the power play specialist.
29:23But like with Laura there now,
29:26give him time to kind of settle
29:27into that role and be your your 20,
29:30you know, 22, 23 year old guy
29:31that you build here for the long term.
29:33So daily face off Frank Zara Valley
29:35had him as like a buyout candidate.
29:39For this offseason.
29:40And then like I think I saw
29:41his Bruins Benders podcast tweeted out,
29:44you know, would you guys
29:45would Bruins fans want him?
29:47I'm in agreement with you.
29:48Love Tory Krug.
29:49Love what he brought.
29:50Hell of a player.
29:52I just think with the emergence
29:53of Mason Lowry, I don't know
29:55if that's what you need.
29:56I think you need more of a veteran
29:58shut down left shot defenseman
29:59than you do a veteran power play specialist.
30:03And again, the power play was bad
30:04last year at times,
30:06struggled down the stretch.
30:08He would help that,
30:09but I just think that gets
30:10in the way of Lowry.
30:11And then it's like, all right,
30:11so your left side is Lowry,
30:13Lindholm and Krug.
30:15That's not like the toughest
30:18Gary to play against.
30:19You need a shutdown guy in there.
30:20I just look at what Lowry brings.
30:22He's, you know, his skating ability,
30:24his ability to activate
30:25move down the half while he does
30:27some of the things that in time,
30:28you hope he becomes Tory Krug, right?
30:30Like, which is how mobile he can be.
30:32He's also six, five,
30:33and he's also a lot younger
30:35and a lot cheaper.
30:36Like, again, it's just in terms of
30:38you look at it
30:39from a business perspective,
30:40like it just makes the most sense
30:41in terms of going with the asset
30:43you have that's younger,
30:43that even maybe has higher upside
30:45or even if it becomes production wise,
30:47what Tory Krug is,
30:48you have more to work with a guy
30:50that can also play
30:5122 minutes a night down the road
30:53and be a six, five guy
30:54that's going to continue
30:55to fill out there.
30:56100 percent, 100 percent.
30:57Someone else who's an interesting name
31:00was Patrick Liney,
31:02entered the NHL PA
31:04players assistance program in January,
31:06has struggled on the ice
31:07the last couple of seasons,
31:09signed a big deal with Columbus,
31:13carries an eight point
31:13seven million dollar
31:14average annual value.
31:17Would you take a flyer on this
31:19if they dangled them
31:20and ate some of that money?
31:23I probably wouldn't.
31:24And again, like you look
31:25at just the baseline numbers
31:26and you can, you know,
31:28view a guy that in the right spot
31:30could go back to being
31:30a thirty five forty goal scorer,
31:32right? The talent's there.
31:34I just don't think it's worth it
31:35in terms of one, like
31:36what the price is going to be,
31:37even for a depressed asset like that
31:40in terms of just where
31:41his production has been from,
31:43you know, his his early years.
31:46And again, it just comes down to
31:49what you're paying to get them.
31:50Like he's still got an eight
31:51point seven million dollar cap hit.
31:53You have the cap space,
31:54but how much of that are you
31:56going to allocate towards a guy
31:57that has all the potential
31:59of being a forty goal top six player?
32:01But you just don't really know there.
32:03You add in like the defensive
32:04part of his game.
32:05It just.
32:07I think if you have this cap space
32:08and you have some of these assets
32:10that you can dangle out there,
32:11I wouldn't use it on a guy
32:13that's like a better Mike Hoffman,
32:16right? Like just kind of.
32:18Twenty five, thirty five goalscore
32:20that can help you, I guess,
32:21but like at what cost in terms,
32:24especially his cap hit
32:25when you're giving up all that stuff.
32:26I I think there's other options
32:28if the Bruins are looking
32:29for trade chips that make
32:30just a little bit more sense.
32:32I get the desire from some
32:34to that would want to do that
32:36because you do need to score goals
32:37at a better rate next year.
32:39In theory, like he could help that.
32:43I just I don't know.
32:44That's a lot of money.
32:44How much are they eating?
32:46What's it going to take to get him?
32:48You know, I guess if they let's say
32:50like, OK, hypothetical,
32:51if the if the Blue Jackets said
32:53we're going to eat half.
32:54So you're paying like.
32:56What, 4.3 around that?
32:58And you have to give up,
33:00you know, a late round pick
33:01or something.
33:02I'm just off the top of my head of,
33:03you know, we don't know
33:04what the market would be,
33:05but it would be something around that.
33:07Maybe like maybe,
33:09but that's still like
33:10a good chunk of money.
33:12That's not like, you know,
33:132 million a year.
33:13That's 4.3 million per year.
33:16And that takes you out of
33:17probably signing another wing.
33:19Like, because again,
33:20if DeBrusque walks.
33:22Ideally, you know,
33:23you're signing a number one
33:25center this offseason,
33:26probably Lindholm.
33:27And then like I think
33:28you're going after either
33:29like a Bertuzzi,
33:32a Toffoli, a Duclair.
33:35Two or, you know,
33:36two or more of those kinds of wingers,
33:38like, you know, Mantha, whatever.
33:40Like, would you take
33:42Line A over those guys?
33:44You know, I get why people
33:45might want to, but.
33:47I don't know.
33:48A lot of question marks there,
33:49so I don't know if that's
33:50the best use of.
33:52Use of your funds, so to speak.
33:55Anyways, Connor,
33:56what can the people
33:56look forward to from you
33:57over at the globe and boston.com?
33:59Yeah, well, I'd be covered
34:00every step of the way this offseason,
34:02whether it's trade rumors,
34:03free agency, the draft,
34:04which may be all of a sudden
34:05we have to start looking at
34:07the mock drafts of a
34:09couple of trades go down,
34:10so we'll see there.
34:11But that'd be electric.
34:12We start breaking down prospects.
34:14We got, you know,
34:14we'd have to do some sort of fun game
34:16of like picking players and.
34:17The big board.
34:19The big board.
34:19Yeah, the Felger and Mads big board.
34:21We'll do the same thing.
34:23But yeah, we'll have all that stuff
34:24over at boston.com
34:25and the Boston Globe.
34:26So follow along there.
34:27If you want to follow me on Twitter,
