00:00For Women in Science, the international award dedicated to women who work in the scientific sector,
00:10born in 1998 on the initiative of L'Oreal and UNESCO, reaches its 22th edition in Italy.
00:17As every year, L'Oreal Italia for Women and Science awards six researchers who, after a rigorous selection,
00:23have been awarded as many awards, each of the value of 20,000 euros,
00:27which will allow them to carry out the research project.
00:30For L'Oreal Italia, the support for women in science, female empowerment and gender equality are central elements.
00:57Also those of women, who not only bring some excellent ideas, but they also bring a diversity of thought.
01:05That is why for 20 years now we have been supporting young women researchers in their projects
01:10in order to help them to overcome some of the obstacles that they are facing as women in research.
01:16Initiatives like the one that L'Oreal has been carrying out for 22 years are extremely important
01:22to achieve gender equality inside and outside the world of scientific research.
01:27It is a really significant award because we need a lot of women in science,
01:32in technology, in mathematics, in all those subjects called STEM subjects.
01:37We need it because gender equality is a goal, not only of the 2030 International Agenda,
01:44but also and above all of our country, because we are 10 points below the European average,
01:49so we still have a lot to do.
01:51At the intervention of the Chairwoman Cappella,
01:53they followed the video message of the Minister of the University of Research, Anna Maria Bernini,
01:58and the message of the Minister for Equal Opportunities and Family, Eugenia Maria Rocella.
02:03Both of them recognize the award of UNESCO L'Oreal Italia as a great value
02:07and an important role in bringing more and more young people closer to STEM subjects,
02:11as also the winners of the 2024 edition testify.
02:15I am very satisfied and proud to have received this recognition from L'Oreal.
02:21I consider it an important award for my career,
02:26as it will allow me to carry out a research that I care a lot about,
02:31that is, a research focused on the prediction of the rupture of the atherosclerotic plate inside the carotids,
02:39and this could allow a better prevention of the ischemic brain ictus.
02:44In addition to Kurti, Bernadette Basilico, Federica Fabri, Veronica Nava, Chiara Trovatello and Giada Peron have also been awarded.
