00:00What are Synergy Grants?
00:04Synergy Grants are special forms of grants
00:08that are made for research projects of excellence
00:11and are financed by the European Research Council.
00:15Since 2007, when the European Research Council was established,
00:201,000 projects of Italian universities
00:23for a value of almost 1 billion euros have been financed.
00:26Synergy Grants are aimed at research groups
00:30with different skills and expertise
00:35that work together to find innovative solutions
00:39in the research sector.
00:41They are therefore a key point
00:44for European research and innovation.
00:48Innovation is one of the European Commission's political priorities.
00:52The Horizon Europe programme
00:55has an incomparable financial supply worldwide.
00:59We are talking about almost 96 billion euros.
01:03The importance of innovation for European competitiveness
01:07has also been recently highlighted
01:10by Mario Draghi's report,
01:12which sees innovation as one of the three fundamental elements
01:16for greater European competitiveness.
01:19It is crucial to remember
01:21that investing in innovation
01:23also means investing in the well-being of European citizens.
01:27It is also important to remember
01:29that there are estimates by the European Commission
01:32that predict that by 2040,
01:34the Horizon Europe programme
01:37will produce an increase of almost 800 billion euros.
01:42This is a fundamental figure.
01:44In the same way, it seems that,
01:46according to these estimates,
01:48every euro invested will produce an increase
01:51for every European citizen of 5 to 11 euros.
01:54Therefore, the European Commission,
01:56by investing in innovation,
01:58invests in the competitiveness of the European Union
02:01and in its total interest.
