00:00The UK's richest family, whose estimated net worth is £37bn, was on trial for human exploitation.
00:08The owners of the Hinduja Group, an international group with 200,000 employees, brought over
00:15three domestic workers from India to their Geneva mansion and allegedly paid them as
00:20little as £7 for 18-hour workdays. That is less than one-tenth of the amount required
00:25by Swiss law. Prosecutors accused the Hindujas of taking away the workers' passports and
00:31spending more money on their dog than on their domestic staff. Lawyers representing 79-year-old
00:37tycoon Prakash Hinduja and his wife Kamal denied the allegations.
00:41I firmly believe that they should have been acquitted, but the shock will pass. We will
00:48recover quickly and go all the way and take the case to the federal court and even to
00:53the European Court of Human Rights.
00:56They were acquitted on earlier charges of human trafficking on the grounds that the
01:00staff had willingly come to Switzerland. The Swiss court sentenced Prakash and wife Kamal
01:05to four and a half years in prison and son Ajay with wife Namrata to four years.
