2008 The Mission

Written by Mark Fielding Darden in 2008

I wrote this right after I read Eric Clapton's autobiography. It was a very open, honest and moving book. He's been sober and attending AA meetings for decades now, even when on tour. I respect him hugely.

At the same time, I was going through a divorce after twenty years of what I thought was a marriage. As I wrote this song, I was thinking of how I could overcome my failures and become someone better... like Eric did. The marriage ended anyway, but not because I didn't try.

I was very pleased with the lead guitar work on this song. It was so easy to hear in my head as the notes came out... and about half way through the ending, it goes from country to blues. My favorite hook comes right at the very, very end.

Mfd: guitars, song, vocals, dueling pianos, percussion, video
