00:00Travel from Valenzuela to the IA Terminal in 45 minutes?
00:15That's possible in the Metro Manila Subway, where we'll update you on how many percent of the ride is over.
00:20Plus, you'll see some things that have never been seen on TV,
00:25including the part of the subway that's under the river.
00:29C'mon, let's change the game!
00:36With three active train lines,
00:39this is the network of trends in Metro Manila.
00:42But this is what Japan International Cooperation Agency, or JICA, proposed in 1973.
00:49Along with a subway.
00:52Finally, after five decades, the underground train system is being built.
00:58And we have an exclusive update.
01:03To see is to believe, that's right.
01:05And we're here at Valenzuela Vipo.
01:10The only permanent things we see here are these tunnel rings.
01:16The rest is just for construction, including our ventilation, our railings right here.
01:22Everything we see here, including the conveyor belt, is all used for construction.
01:29East Valenzuela is just one of 17 stations in eight cities,
01:33including three central business districts.
01:37Just a quick update for our viewers.
01:40They have 15% physical progress.
01:44And right behind me is our tunnel boring machine.
01:48This is where it starts, and this is where it ends.
01:51We're currently in the middle of East Valenzuela and Quirino stations.
01:58So we're in the middle.
02:00And up until this point, from where we left off earlier,
02:04from Valenzuela Vipo to here,
02:07they've already completed 1.1 kilometers.
02:11We've also reached the part of the subway that you wouldn't think is under a river.
02:17The tunnel that we're building right now,
02:21it goes through Mindanao Avenue.
02:25Is it safe to construct a structure like this under the river?
02:31Actually, in between our segments,
02:33it has a rubber gasket, which is a watertight oxygen level that we maintain here.
02:39We have detection for, for example, earthquakes.
02:44It also has control measures for floods.
02:49This is important because the average depth of the subway is 30 meters,
02:53which is higher than a typical nine-story building.
02:59We also got to see the inside of the tunnel boring machine,
03:03or the machine that digs and places segment rings that will be built in the tunnel.
03:10From its cockpit, which also serves as the control center of the tunnel construction,
03:15to the chamber, where the tunnel rings that have six panel segments are built.
03:21The five in the back are the long ones, the big ones.
03:25Those are the main parts of our tunnel ring.
03:28The sixth piece that will be built in our panel segments is here.
03:36This is where the sixth piece will go.
03:38This will be the specific lock for our tunnel ring.
03:42In other words, in the puzzle, this will be the final piece of the puzzle
03:46so that our rings will be solid.
03:54When this project is finished,
03:56it will change the public transport system here in the Philippines.
04:01For GMA Integrated News,
04:03Changing the Game!
