00:15Henry's cat had decided to clean out the loft
00:18and put all the old rubbish he found up there
00:21into the dustbin.
00:23He breathed a great sigh of relief when it was all done
00:25and thought he'd spend the rest of the day
00:26in the garden asleep.
00:29Just as he dozed off, Chris Rabbit dashed up
00:33and said,
00:34Let's have a race! Let's have a race!
00:36Then dashed off again,
00:38but almost immediately, Chris Rabbit returned,
00:42shouting,
00:43I won! I won!
00:45Henry's cat thought for a moment and said,
00:47Oh, that's not a very good sort of race.
00:50Why don't you have a proper race?
00:52What's a proper race then?
00:54asked Chris.
00:55Well, a proper race, said Henry's cat,
00:58has lots of people running and swimming
01:00and things like that.
01:02Yeah, we'll have a proper race with running and swimming
01:05and things and lots of prizes
01:06and a special prize for rabbits.
01:09And he dashed off,
01:11leaving Henry's cat wondering what he'd said.
01:14In the meantime, Chris was telling everybody
01:16there was going to be a big race with lots of prizes
01:19and a special prize for rabbits.
01:21Oh, what sort of race?
01:23asked Douglas Dog.
01:25Running and swimming and everything,
01:27said Chris.
01:29I can swim, said Denise Duck.
01:31And I can crawl, said Sammy Snail.
01:36And I can eat, said Pansy Pig.
01:39And I can bark, said Douglas Dog.
01:43And I can leap, said Philip Frog.
01:48And I can sleep, said the dozy voice of Ted Tortoise.
01:52They all decided what they were going to do in the race.
01:54And as they were all gathered round talking about it,
01:57Henry's cat walked by looking for the dustman
01:59to take away his rubbish.
02:01And at that moment, Chris Rabbit bounced up
02:04and said,
02:06Here he is! Here he is!
02:07Henry's cat is the judge and he gave us lots of prizes.
02:10And we start now!
02:13And leapt off.
02:14Suddenly, everybody started doing their thing
02:16as fast as they could,
02:17like swimming,
02:19eating,
02:20barking,
02:22crawling,
02:23sleeping,
02:25and everything.
02:28Henry's cat wasn't quite sure what he was supposed to be judging.
02:31But after an hour or so, he decided it was time to stop.
02:35So he banged on an old bucket.
02:37Oh, everybody stop, the race is over.
02:41Line up and I can judge you properly, said Henry's cat.
02:45And walked up and down in a very proper manner
02:47as he judged them.
02:48And then he wrote something on a piece of paper and said,
02:51It's a draw, with everybody winning.
02:55And a special prize for Chris Rabbit
02:57because it's his birthday this year.
02:59Well, this was so exciting because none of them had won a race before.
03:04Prizes! Prizes!
03:05shouted Chris.
03:06Oh, I was just coming to that, said Henry's cat.
03:10Just follow me.
03:12And they all marched back to Henry's cat's house.
03:14And there were prizes all ready and waiting outside the back door.
03:18Henry's cat gave each of them a prize.
03:20Oh, look at that!
03:22Even the tortoise who was still asleep.
03:24And as a special prize, Chris Rabbit got a hot water bottle,
03:27which Henry's cat explained was useful for keeping carrot juice in
03:29when crossing the desert, something Chris had always wanted.
03:33Oh, wow!
03:34He immediately dashed off shouting, I won! I won! I won!
03:37Henry's cat sighed with relief.
03:40It was all over.
03:42He sat back in his chair and rocked himself off to sleep,
03:45thinking with some satisfaction that although the heat
03:48that although the human race could not solve its problems,
03:51his race could.
