00:00I would like to thank the Concord Club, which was chaired by Dato' Wang Chong Wai.
00:08One of the main issues that was raised was the following statement of the Prime Minister yesterday
00:17regarding the SPM candidates who managed to pass the 10A decision will be given a place
00:30to continue their studies in matriculation.
00:35The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education will work together
00:43to ensure that the students who pass the 10A will be given a place.
00:53This is one of the principles of the government to ensure that every student who succeeds in their studies
01:07will be given a place.
01:11Based on your assessment, do you feel that the universities will be able to absorb these students
01:19who have got 10As as the Prime Minister says it's automatic?
01:23We believe we don't have much issue to facilitate those students with 10As and above.
01:33Because the places at the university under the ASASI as well as under the matriculation are sufficient
01:41enough to cater for the numbers of students who got 10As and above.
01:50How would you describe the position of the Prime Minister because it is unprecedented?
01:57This is not unprecedented actually because this is part of the policy of the government under the PH government
02:05to provide opportunity to all students who are able to achieve certain levels of excellence in their studies.
02:21This is part of our current government also to make sure that access to education,
02:28especially to the excellent students and also to all, must be given due recognition.
02:35If I recall correctly, it's not a minimum number of subjects to take for instance 10,
02:43but some may take 10 and still be straight A students.
02:46So what about these students, they are straight A but they didn't get 10?
02:49We are also working for those students who got straight As and are not able to enter.
02:55So as such we have opened up their process so they can appeal to the respective department
03:06either under the Ministry of Higher Education or under the Ministry of Education itself.
03:13For the Higher Education Ministry, we are opening up.
03:16We have at our lobby area in the Higher Education Ministry for them to appeal.
03:24Can we say the Malaysian government is now ready to remove quota system for 10As at least?
03:32We apply to all. We apply to all students who deserve regardless of their background.
03:41It's not a question of quota, regardless of their background for the 10A students and above.
