00:00Time for school, Charlie Brown, by Charles A. Brown.
00:29Charles M. Schultz, adapted by Maggie Testa, illustrated by Robert Pope.
00:38Poor Charlie Brown, he can't kick a football, or throw a decent pitch, or even fly a kite.
00:46But when it comes to worrying about school, he is the world champ.
00:53You look down, Charlie Brown, Linus says.
00:58I worry about school a lot, Charlie Brown replies.
01:02And then I worry about worrying so much about school.
01:06Charlie Brown decides to get help.
01:12What's your problem? Lucy asks.
01:15I worry about tomorrow, Charlie Brown answers.
01:20Then when tomorrow becomes today, I start worrying about tomorrow again.
01:28I think I can help you, Lucy tells Charlie Brown.
01:32What you need is confidence.
01:39Throw out your chest and face the future, Lucy shouts.
01:43Now raise your arm and clench your fist.
01:46Charlie Brown does what Lucy tells him to do.
01:49Suddenly, Charlie Brown isn't worried about school anymore.
01:56He might ace every pop quiz.
01:59He might become hall monitor.
02:02He might even talk to the little red-haired girl.
02:05Lucy interrupts Charlie Brown's daydream.
02:08You look ridiculous, she says.
02:11A few days after school starts, the teacher tells the students about the spelling bee.
02:17Charlie Brown thinks about entering it.
02:19It could be good for him.
02:21He could gain confidence.
02:27Charlie Brown goes to raise his hand to volunteer, but his hand won't go up.
02:33My hand is smarter than I am, Charlie Brown groans.
02:37Charlie Brown enters the spelling bee anyway.
02:40You're crazy, Lucy whispers.
02:43Don't do it.
02:44You'll just make a fool of yourself.
02:50Charlie Brown throws his hands up in the air.
02:54I can try, can't I?
02:56Charlie Brown asks.
02:57What's the good of living if you don't know how to use your hands?
03:02Charlie Brown says, I don't know.
03:04Charlie Brown asks.
03:05What's the good of living if you don't try a few things?
03:12Lucy leans over again.
03:14Spell acetylcholinesterase.
03:17Charlie Brown gulps.
03:20Maybe I shouldn't have entered, he says.
03:26But as the spelling bee gets closer and closer, Charlie Brown gets braver.
03:32He feels more confident.
03:34Nobody thinks I can win, Snoopy, Charlie Brown tells his dog.
03:39But I'm going to show them.
03:44I do have trouble remembering some rules, Charlie Brown admits.
03:49I before B except after T?
03:53Is it V before Z except after E?
03:57Good grief, thinks Snoopy.
03:59It is the day of the spelling bee.
04:03Charlie Brown feels calm.
04:05He feels confident.
04:07All the words in the first round are easy, he thinks.
04:14Soon it is Charlie Brown's turn.
04:17Maze, he repeats after the teacher gives him the word.
04:25Charlie Brown is confident.
04:27Charlie Brown isn't worried.
04:29He smiles.
04:30He takes a deep breath.
04:33He begins to spell M-A-Y-S.
04:41Charlie Brown blows it.
04:44Soon he is back at his desk and he is worrying.
04:48What will his friends say?
04:50What will Snoopy do?
04:52What will Snoopy do?
04:57Yes, ma'am, Charlie Brown answers when his teacher calls his name.
05:02Why did I have my head on my desk?
05:08Because I blew the spelling bee, Charlie Brown yells.
05:13That's why!
05:14Charlie Brown covers his mouth with his hands.
05:17Yelling at the teacher is never a good idea.
05:22Oh, good grief, he says.
05:25It is the worst day of Charlie Brown's life.
05:29He woke up looking forward to the spelling bee
05:31and he ended up in the principal's office.
05:38On a day like this, a person really needs his faithful dog
05:43to come running out to greet him, Charlie Brown says on his walk home.
05:47And Snoopy is there waiting for Charlie Brown when he gets home.
05:52Happiness is a warm puppy.
05:59I hope you enjoyed that story.
