00:00Aside from cheaper electricity charges, the government led by the Department of Energy or DOE
00:05is looking for alternative power sources to help Filipinos with their energy needs
00:10like the establishment of a renewable power plant in Albay.
00:14Noel Talakay will give us the details to this game-changing development live. Good evening, Noel.
00:19Good evening, Monique. 100% clean, renewable and reliable source of energy. That is the main goal
00:32of the Energy Development Corporation. That's why this company pushes
00:38to establish a geothermal power plant in Manito, Albay.
00:43The Department of Energy is targeting 30% or 54,000 megawatts for renewable energy by 2030
00:55under its project the National Renewable Energy Program or NREP, which by 2040
01:03it is hoped or expected to reach 50%.
01:07We have a lot of helpers. We were told by Sir Jerome and Sir Harvey and Sir Guys that this is JF24.
01:21So it's like a deodorant. 20% protection but all the energy security.
01:29Today, the Energy Development Corporation inaugurated the Palawan Binary Geothermal Power Plant
01:35in the province of Albay. It will provide 28.9 megawatts of renewable energy to the country.
01:42It is an expansion of the current 140 megawatts at the Baco na Matino facility.
01:50Binary technology is not new. In fact, we already used it in our latest plant in Upper Mahiaw.
01:59And just before this Palawan Binary, we haven't mentioned it yet.
02:05But we have 3.6 megawatts at Mt. Apo that was built two years ago.
02:11The 7 billion worth project is one of the four binary geothermal power plant of Energy Development Corporation or EDC.
02:21According to the EDC, it employs a zero-discharge system that ensures brine and other fluids are efficiently re-injected.
02:31That's why this will also address climate change because it will not contribute the carbon dioxide
02:38and nitrous oxide emission produced by burning coal, oil, gas which is present in our current
02:45and most commonly used power supply.
03:16When it comes to electricity price impact to the consumer,
03:23Kaenglit clarifies that they are a generated company, not an energy distributor.
03:29The electricity bill of the consumer still varies on the power distributors like Moralco.
