00:00Congratulations, Home Secretary.
00:10Thank you very much.
00:11It's been a long time coming for you.
00:12Thank you.
00:13Well, look, it's a real honour to be asked by Keir Starmer to serve as the new Home Secretary.
00:18The first duty of any government is to keep our country safe, to keep our community safe
00:25and to keep our borders secure, and so that is why my first task as I go into the Home
00:29Office will be the Labour's first steps, which means trying to get neighbourhood police
00:33back on our streets in our communities and also setting up the new Border Security Command
00:39to go after the criminal boat gangs that are organising the dangerous boat crossings.
00:45We know there are a lot of challenges ahead and after 14 years there is some difficult
00:51legacy that we will inherit and we know that that will mean hard graft and not gimmicks
00:58ahead in order to tackle that.
00:59I think what we also know is it feels that our communities have faced damage and often
01:06felt fractured and sometimes brittle as well and our task has to be to bring people back
01:13together and to restore respect and to restore trust as Keir Starmer has said today, to restore
01:20politics to public service as well.
01:23So thank you and let the change begin.
