For the latest LP Eats food review on the search for Preston's best burger, we headed down to Cheapside to try out the scran at Boo... Safe to say it left an impression

00:00Good morning, good afternoon, good evening. Welcome to the latest episode of LPEats. Now
00:10as you'll know, we're on a mission to find the best burger in Preston. And unfortunately,
00:15the weather's not really playing along. Burger's supposed to be good vibes, supposed to be
00:19summery, barbecue, that kind of thing. But we're having a pretty grim start to July,
00:25so the weather's not playing ball, but spirit's high. I'm going to go across Preston today,
00:30head over to a place called Boo. Looks a very, very chic burger place, very modern, very
00:38kind of like, you know, one of those places you get in modern town centres. So I'm really
00:42excited to try it. Food looks good, menu looks really good, so I'm not going to let the weather
00:47hold me back, I'm not going to let the weather bring me down because I'm dead keen to see
00:50what the burgers at Boo are like. We've done a couple in the town centre so far, this one
00:54promises to be good as well. Come with me, let's go try Boo, see what it's like.
01:06Hello burger fans, my name's Jack Marshall. When I left here, I was walking to Boo, raining,
01:11not very pleasant start to July, feeling pretty underwhelmed by it all. Weather had me down,
01:16needed something to cheer me up and no spoilers, I mean, we are literally about to cover it,
01:20but boy, did I find something to cheer me up. Headline of this whole thing is this is one of
01:25the best burgers I've ever had. There's no way to sugarcoat it, Boo has one of the best burgers
01:31I've ever had. It was incredible, it was everything you want from a burger. Now we'll come to the
01:36individual scores in a minute, but I just want to start by saying this was outstanding, I'd really
01:42urge anyone to go and try it for themselves. If you're a burger fan, if you're a meat fan,
01:47if you're a regular person, if you're a vegetarian, go and try it, it will convince you
01:51to come back to the meaty side of things, because oh my goodness, this thing was incredible.
01:57Now we'll start from the meat, it had everything. It had that proper beefy flavour, which I know
02:03lots of people will have obviously, but some of them don't. Proper beefy flavour, it was like a
02:07classic smash burger, so it was like, it wasn't overwhelming, but it had the juiciness as well,
02:12it had like a lovely salt and peppery taste to it as well, and a lovely buttery juiciness coming
02:17through it. Everything about it was just classic and bang on and perfect. There's no way you could
02:23have looked at that and say, I can find something to improve on that. It was a five out of five,
02:27no notes, perfect. That's exactly what you want from a burger. Second, the moisture of the whole
02:32thing. Now I've mentioned how juicy the burgers themselves were, so that was really good, but
02:38add on to that, the fact that it had like melted American cheese, I really love the salty gherkins
02:42on it as well. It had their homemade burger sauce on it as well. This whole thing just came together
02:48flawless, perfect, exactly the right amount. It wasn't falling apart, it wasn't making the bread
02:53soggy, but it was there. It was like juicy enough to, you know, contribute to the meal itself and
03:00not just be like, oh this is just meatiness and the flavour of meat or whatever. There were other
03:04things coming in as well, but nothing overwhelmed anything else. It was balanced really well and I
03:09know that sounds really hoity-toity and snooty when we're talking about a burger in the middle
03:13of Preston, but it did, it balanced really nicely. Everything about it really, really kind of like
03:18worked. Five out of five for that, ten out of ten so far, brilliant. Extras. Now this burger on its
03:24own didn't come with fries or anything like that, but they had something called ziggy fries, so I
03:28thought let's have a bash, we'll have some ziggy fries. They were really nice, they were like crinkle
03:32cut, but in a really weird way I've never seen before. They were delicious, but I'm marking them down
03:38here, four out of five for these, because they were lukewarm, they weren't like hot and fresh, that's
03:44the only way I mark them down. They tasted delicious, I loved the shape, I loved the crispiness
03:49of them, perfect apart from that. As for the salad on the burger, as we've touched on, salad was really
03:54fresh, really nice sauces, everything about that, perfect. Four out of five for that, I'm going to mark them
03:58down because the chips are a little, not cold, I'd be harsh to that, but they were lukewarm, they weren't like
04:02piping hot. Now on to the vibe in the place, I'm giving them a 3.5 out of 5 for the vibe in the place, because
04:09I mean, I get that the whole point of it was very minimalist and black and white and simple
04:15and that's it, just you know, we're keeping everything really simple, but the whole vibe
04:22in there was just a little lacking in atmosphere, so that's the only thing I'm marking them down on.
04:26Everyone was there friendly, they were dead quick and efficient system, whatever, got my food pretty
04:30quickly, that was all great, but I don't know, it was just lacking a bit of personality to it, but that
04:36might just mean other people might go in there and love the fact that it's dead minimalist, that's just a
04:39personal thing, this is my rating, so 3.5 out of 5 for that. And then finally on to the value now, don't get
04:44me wrong, this was an expensive burger, I spent £13.45 on the whole meal, which was the burger,
04:50the fries, the ziggy fries and a can. It's a lot of cash, it's a lot of cash for a meal, you couldn't be
04:56doing that every week, you couldn't be doing that, you know, you'd be doing that once a month at most
05:00I reckon, but the way, the reason I'm going to give them the score, which I'm going to give them, which
05:06I'll tell you in a minute, is because this was so good, it overrode the fact that this was more
05:11on the expensive side, but it didn't have been so good, so in the end it was almost worth it, and I think
05:16when I'm giving them a score, I'm going to give them a score of 4 out of 5, I think to myself, would I go
05:20back, would I pay that again, and I would, I'd happily pay that again, it was so good, genuinely, I can't
05:25emphasize this enough, go and try it for yourself, so anyway, final scores, they've got a 21.5 out of 25,
05:32which is a brilliant score, really, really good, I can't fault this place, apart from the slight lack
05:37of atmosphere and the fries being a bit lukewarm, it was stunning, like I say, I'll be back, check it
