For the latest in our LP Eats review series on kebabs in Preston, we headed down to Falafel+ - a charming street food van located on Fylde Road near UCLan. Tempted by their chickpea-based offerings, we ploughed on and grabbed another kebab to review, and here's what we made of it...

00:00 Hi all, Jack Marshall, Digital Reporter with the Lancashire Post here.
00:09 Another Monday, another LP Eats Kebab review.
00:13 Not raining this week but it is absolutely freezing so continuing to be rewarded by the
00:19 weather gods for poking them really and enjoying the good weather.
00:23 That's hubris for you.
00:24 So anyway, today we're going down to Falafel Plus which is like this little kind of street
00:29 food vendor van just around the corner from where we are in the UCLan offices.
00:34 So I'm just heading down there now, really keen to see what it's like because it seems
00:37 dead poppy all the time, there's always a queue so very excited to see what kind of
00:41 stuff they're serving.
00:42 So yeah, let's go see what they've got and grab something.
00:45 Righto, so chicken shawarma wrapped and secured.
01:14 It's very cold out here so there was a little wait but the fact that there was a line is
01:20 kind of a good sign.
01:21 People are obviously into it and there's a lot of young students who go there quite regularly
01:25 so that was nice and the guy himself was absolutely lovely.
01:27 He was really, really polite and pleasant and chatty on a Monday morning to brighten
01:32 your day up.
01:33 So let's head inside and crack it open and see what we can see.
01:36 All right, Kebab fans, so yeah, let's start off with the wrap on this Falafel Plus chicken
01:43 shawarma wrap.
01:44 It's a bit pale, it was obviously store-bought which is obviously something which we'll address
01:47 but cracking it open, it was full of salad, plenty of sauce as you can see which is always
01:52 a good thing, plenty of garlic mayo, you really want your breath to be honking after one of
01:57 these.
01:58 So it was looking pretty good at this stage, there was plenty of chicken in there.
02:01 It was pretty big, you don't really get the scale of it from this, it was a pretty hefty
02:05 bit of kit so that was always good.
02:08 Yeah, cracked on, few bites, very nice, chicken was good.
02:12 Yeah, pretty solid, it didn't blow me away but it was solid, it was good, it was filling.
02:18 So yeah, I was pleased with it, it was nice, especially from a Falafel place, obviously
02:21 it's not a specialty.
02:23 So yeah, here are the scores.
02:24 All right guys, so here we are with the scores on the doors for the chicken shawarma wrap
02:30 from Falafel Plus.
02:33 So yeah, I was really impressed by the wrap, I almost said the falafel then, I'm sure I
02:38 would be impressed by the falafel, it did smell amazing when I was there and I had to
02:41 resist getting some just on the side.
02:43 But anyway, focus on the kebab.
02:45 Starting off with a 9, like we always do.
02:48 Little underwhelming on that front, simply for the reason that it was kind of store bought,
02:52 it was one of those wraps which you can just pick up in a pack of 8.
02:56 Nothing really much else to say about it, it's not handmade so not really much to comment
03:01 on but yeah, little underwhelming.
03:02 It's a 1 out of 5 on that front.
03:04 It was there, it was fine, it held it together, that's it.
03:07 Honest to me, there was plenty of chicken in it, it was nice, it was tasty, it had plenty
03:12 to it.
03:13 Yeah, it didn't blow me away if I'm honest, it was fine, it was nicely seasoned chicken
03:19 shawarma.
03:20 It felt more like pan fried rather than the classic cut off a thing which is understandable,
03:26 cut off a big spit which is understandable given that it's a little food van.
03:30 So tasty, plenty of it, okay, fine, 2.5 out of 5 for me.
03:35 It tastes a little falafel as well which is okay in my book.
03:39 On to the vibe of the place, that was a 5 out of 5.
03:41 The gentleman who was running it was so friendly, really nice, it was hammering it down with
03:45 rain, it was just really cold on a Monday lunchtime so the fact that he was in such
03:52 good spirits and really keeping everyone going in those kind of conditions was really nice
03:56 and people queuing up so obviously he's a bit of a popular figure.
04:00 So yeah, 5 out of 5 on that front.
04:03 On to the extras, I'm going 4.5 on the extras front because the salad in there, it was just
04:07 a few lettuce leaves but it was lettuce mainly in there and it was just really crunchy, fresh,
04:14 it added a lot to it, I really liked it.
04:17 I don't know, sometimes salad can just get a bit warm and sweaty in kebabs like that
04:22 and this wasn't, it was something else too, it was a different texture, different temperature,
04:28 different everything so that was really good.
04:29 So that's a 4.5, there was also chips there as well and the garlic mayo, there was loads
04:33 of it and it was, my breath was going for the rest of the day so that's what you want
04:37 from your garlic mayo.
04:38 That was great, that's 4.5 out of 5.
04:40 And then finally the price point, the whole thing was pretty hefty, cost £5.50 which
04:44 I think is ok for a lunchtime.
04:47 Alright nothing to write home about, that's 3.5.
04:49 So overall the scores for Falafel Plus are 16.5 out of 25 which means that they are in
04:56 third place so far having done 4 kebabs.
05:00 So yeah, thanks very much for watching, stay tuned for next week where we'll be visiting
05:03 another local Prestonian kebab house to try out another one in the LP series.
05:09 Cheers!
