00:00:00You'll have 10 seconds for each of the optical illusions.
00:00:04Your task will be to read the hidden number.
00:00:06You'll go from the easiest to the hardest riddles.
00:00:10Start off with an easy one for warm-up.
00:00:12Told you, it's 784.
00:00:28Moving on.
00:00:39I hope you were able to see the number 5346 here level up.
00:00:44How about this one?
00:00:57The correct answer is 725.
00:01:01And another one.
00:01:06Yes, it's 786.
00:01:16Now only 5% of people can read the next three numbers.
00:01:19Wanna give it a go?
00:01:31If your answer is 6012, it's correct.
00:01:35And here's another tricky one.
00:01:50It's 182.
00:01:52And if you saw it, you must have eagle vision.
00:01:55Told you it won't be easy, but try this one.
00:02:08The correct answer is 3708.
00:02:12Let's see how you handle some black and white illusions.
00:02:27And the first one is hiding the number 476.
00:02:31There you go.
00:02:33If that was too simple, how about this one?
00:02:46I hope you guessed it was 86347.
00:02:51And now let's test your eyes with some hidden words.
00:02:54You still have 10 seconds for each of them.
00:03:06I'm sure you figured out it's the word NEVER.
00:03:10Can you read what this picture says?
00:03:24I can't sleep.
00:03:25How sad.
00:03:28This one is hiding the name of some month.
00:03:30You have to think outside the box to read it.
00:03:33Feel free to pause the video if you need more time.
00:03:37Well, the secret was to split it in half.
00:03:43Then you can see it's July.
00:03:46How about this one?
00:03:58It's the word RUN hiding in the back.
00:04:01Another one for you.
00:04:15I hope you found the gold.
00:04:18Here comes a tricky one.
00:04:30It takes some brain power to see it's BRAIN.
00:04:35Another one in this category.
00:04:36It's only getting more complicated.
00:04:49If you read the word MUSIC between the lines, you must be a genius.
00:04:55Now let's see if you can decipher these secret messages.
00:04:58I give you 10 seconds for this one.
00:05:08Well if someone says it's just a bunch of letters without meaning, you can easily prove
00:05:13them wrong.
00:05:15What do you see here?
00:05:28The power of imagination makes us infinite.
00:05:30Couldn't agree more.
00:05:32Here's another one.
00:05:46I hope you always desire to learn something useful.
00:05:51You deserve some dessert for all that mental activity.
00:05:54Here's just one cupcake among all those ice cream cones.
00:05:57Try to find it.
00:06:08There it is, yum.
00:06:11Get a tomato to go.
00:06:13I can only see a bunch of apples, but maybe you'll be luckier here.
00:06:25Find it.
00:06:27There's a butterfly hiding somewhere among those flowers.
00:06:30Do you see it?
00:06:36Fantastic!
00:06:42It's right there.
00:06:45Can you find the one and only pineapple in this image?
00:07:00Great job!
00:07:02One of these colorful leaves is in fact a mushroom.
00:07:05Can you spot it?
00:07:18Well done!
00:07:20How about a safari to give your eyes another test?
00:07:24Do you see anyone hiding in these leaves?
00:07:31Yep, it's a chameleon.
00:07:41And those guys know how to blend with the surroundings.
00:07:44There must be a groundhog hiding somewhere in the rocks.
00:07:47Find it in 10 seconds.
00:07:55Wow, that was neat.
00:08:04One coyote won't do you much harm, but if it brings some friends, better make sure this
00:08:09area is coyote-free.
00:08:21Start looking for a different picnic spot.
00:08:24One of those guys is right here.
00:08:27Watch where you step.
00:08:28I hear there are snakes on the ground.
00:08:43Found one.
00:08:44Better be careful.
00:08:47I don't see anyone roaming in this territory.
00:08:49Let's see if you have sharper eyes.
00:09:01What a beautiful gazelle.
00:09:03Did you manage to find it?
00:09:06The next illusion was created back in 1860.
00:09:09It shows how your brain perceives depth and shapes.
00:09:13So do you think the black line lines up with the blue one?
00:09:27If you answered yes, you're wrong.
00:09:29In fact, the black line stems from the red line.
00:09:34Now take a look at these illusions and remember what you see first.
00:09:38It can tell a lot about your personality.
00:09:51If it looks like a mountain to you, you're a down-to-earth person.
00:09:54You're persistent, reliable, and like to plan things.
00:09:58Overcoming obstacles makes you feel really happy.
00:10:01You appreciate stability and don't like to take risks.
00:10:04If you saw the upside-down wolf first, you're a natural leader.
00:10:08You keep your emotions under control even in the most stressful situations.
00:10:12Others admire and respect you for that.
00:10:14Remember, it's okay to ask for help sometimes if you need it.
00:10:18How about this one?
00:10:33If lips caught your eye first, you're realistic and always take things the way they are.
00:10:38You don't look for hidden meaning in what happens to you and what others say to you.
00:10:41It helps you get along with people well.
00:10:44If you noticed the trees first, you're an ambitious person and a perfectionist to the
00:10:48core.
00:10:49You're never happy with just okay and will always strive to be number one and make yourself
00:10:54and others happy.
00:10:56In the case the first thing you saw was the roots, you're an extremely progressive person.
00:11:02You love trying all the new technology and styles.
00:11:05You never settle and always try to make your life better and more exciting.
00:11:11Here comes the next one.
00:11:24If it looks like a parrot to you, you're the soul of any party.
00:11:28You like to be the center of attention, wear something bright, talk loudly and laugh your
00:11:32heart out.
00:11:33You have plenty of friends who love that about you.
00:11:37If you see a girl in a beautiful long dress, you must be the mysterious artsy type.
00:11:42You prefer to observe others being active and loud and get inspiration for your work.
00:11:46You notice little details and remember them to later put them on your canvas or paper.
00:11:53You have 10 seconds to decide what you see in this illusion here.
00:12:09If it's clearly an image of an elephant and a giraffe, you're a reliable and hardworking
00:12:13person.
00:12:14You feel responsible for yourself and your work and don't like to let others down.
00:12:19People appreciate you for that and share their secrets with you.
00:12:23If you saw some rabbits between the trees, you're not as simple as you might seem.
00:12:28You always think before you say or do something.
00:12:30You have a strategy for every life situation.
00:12:33It's important to you to be accepted and loved by others, so you do a lot to please them.
00:12:40New illusion, same task.
00:12:53If you see just two horses crossing a waterfall, you're an adventurous person.
00:12:58When someone offers trying something new or going to a new place, you're always up for
00:13:02it.
00:13:03You realize you might not like it in the end, but you'd rather try it and be sad than regret
00:13:07not going.
00:13:10In case you noticed several faces first, you always see the big picture and can find the
00:13:14right decision quickly.
00:13:16You know what you want and how to get there and never reconsider your own choices.
00:13:21These qualities will take you far in your career.
00:13:23Moving on.
00:13:25Not a beautiful landscape, but is it hiding something?
00:13:40If all you see here is some sea and rocks, you're a calm and balanced person.
00:13:45Sometimes you're in a bad mood, but you always look on the bright side of life and move on.
00:13:49If you also noticed some animals drawn on the rocks, you have a great eye for detail.
00:13:54You always listen to both parties in a conflict before taking sides.
00:13:58You like doing research and drawing logical conclusions.
00:14:01Alright, what does this one say to you?
00:14:17In case you're positive it's a portrait of a young girl, you're an extrovert and can't
00:14:21survive a day without people.
00:14:23You're active on social media and enjoy going to social events where you can make even more
00:14:28friends.
00:14:29If you see some horses and birds, you're more of an introvert.
00:14:32You love being alone outside.
00:14:34You have some great friends, but you appreciate your personal space.
00:14:39Those who see the face and the horses at once, you've got the best of both worlds.
00:14:43You feel comfortable at a party with a few hundred new people around and alone reading
00:14:47a book.
00:14:48What can you say about this illusion?
00:15:03Those who see a face of a woman, you're realistic and pretty content with your life.
00:15:08You don't expect too much from others and are ready to stand your ground if you have
00:15:11to.
00:15:12If you see a saxophone player, you often prefer your imaginary world to the real one.
00:15:18In your dreams, you have turned your favorite hobby into a career.
00:15:22Try doing that in real life.
00:15:24What are your thoughts on this one?
00:15:39If it's clearly an older man to you, you've always been wiser and more reasonable than
00:15:43others your age.
00:15:45That's why people often ask you for advice, and you enjoy helping them out.
00:15:49If you see a young girl and an older man in the arch, you'll always be a child at heart.
00:15:55Your family means the world to you, and you always ask them for advice and protection.
00:16:15picture.
00:16:17If you see a horse in this picture, you're a very valuable friend.
00:16:21You have excellent communication skills, and you're very confident and reliable.
00:16:26But if the first thing you saw here is the horse's head, it may mean you're critical
00:16:31of everything, and the opinion of others can't throw you off the path.
00:16:36The next illusion.
00:16:37Those who saw a crocodile here love a quiet life and don't like to open up to something
00:16:43new.
00:16:44If you saw a boat, you're more creative than other people and pay attention to small
00:16:48details.
00:16:50Those who see a young woman here have an analytical mind and use their left brain more.
00:16:56If you see an old man, you're likely to be a very gentle and sensitive person who
00:17:01can be very empathetic to other people.
00:17:04You're more creative, and you use the right side of your brain.
00:17:08The white pillars in the picture mean you like comfort and safety.
00:17:13But you should leave the comfort zone to gain more experience and achieve something
00:17:17new.
00:17:18But if the first thing you see is the silhouettes of two men, then you're the kind of person
00:17:23who doesn't sit in place and is ready to move constantly.
00:17:28Are these flowers or a woman's face?
00:17:31If it's flowers for you, then you appreciate the world you live in and just love nature.
00:17:37And if the first thing to draw your eye was a woman's face, then you have a great ability
00:17:42to highlight details from the environment that will help you to make the right decision.
00:17:48If an orange explosion is painted for you here, you have incredible leadership qualities.
00:17:54But if the first thing you see in this picture is black fingers, then you're a very compassionate,
00:18:00generous, and kind person.
00:18:02Hey, did you see two faces here?
00:18:05You're an extrovert, you're social, and you're constantly thinking about other people.
00:18:10But you also get influenced easily, so try to surround yourself only with good people.
00:18:16But if you see a candlestick here, you're the exact opposite.
00:18:20You think more about yourself than about other people, and you like to sit at home rather
00:18:24than having noisy parties with a bunch of people.
00:18:27Ooh, this one is scary.
00:18:30If you see a skull here, it means it's hard for you to make decisions and move forward.
00:18:36But you need to find the courage and overcome the circumstances.
00:18:39It's the only way for you to become stronger.
00:18:42And if you see a woman, you're probably feeling like a squeezed lemon, both emotionally
00:18:47and physically.
00:18:49Perhaps you have just ended a difficult period in your life.
00:18:52In any case, stay on the bright side!
00:18:56If you see trees here, you must be an ambitious person who loves to bring everything to perfection.
00:19:03If you saw the roots at the first moment, it means you're a progressive person who
00:19:07strives for improvement.
00:19:09If the whole picture looked like dark lips to you, then you're a person who doesn't
00:19:13like to go deep into something and study too much.
00:19:16Hey, where are those chocolate lips?
00:19:19Now what do we have here?
00:19:21Is it a river and a cliff?
00:19:23Then you're an optimist who adapts easily to the changes in life.
00:19:27But if the first thing you see is a white cat, then you like stability, and you're
00:19:33in an emotional and mental balance.
00:19:36You're a cat lover, of course.
00:19:38And if you see a face here, then you're a very creative person.
00:19:42You see a new opportunity in every detail of the world, and you're very curious.
00:19:48Whoa, is this an explosion?
00:19:51Then you're easily scared.
00:19:53You often feel fear of something new and unknown.
00:19:56You may even be in conflict with yourself.
00:19:59But if you see a passionate kiss in the smoke, then you value relationships and family the
00:20:05most in life.
00:20:07This is the highest priority for you.
00:20:09Ooh, cute bears!
00:20:12If you saw them first, then you can easily solve problems.
00:20:15You see a picture from far away, notice all the details, and can find the best solution.
00:20:21But if for you, this picture is a mountain landscape, then you are a more intuitive person.
00:20:27You're guided by your sixth sense when decision-making.
00:20:31Are you a realist?
00:20:32If you saw a big blue cat here, then yes.
00:20:36You don't have much fantasy, but you see the world as it is, and it helps you make
00:20:40plans on how to conquer it.
00:20:43If a little mouse hits your eyes first, you can see the positive even in the worst-case
00:20:48scenario.
00:20:49For you, the glass is always half-full.
00:20:53The next illusion.
00:20:55If you see a girl at the window, then be careful.
00:20:58This may suggest that you expect something unpleasant to happen.
00:21:02And you're also probably an impulsive person.
00:21:05If you see a skull here, then you're pessimistic.
00:21:09Your friends may call you a cynic, but you consider yourself a realist.
00:21:15Creativity against analytics?
00:21:17What do you see?
00:21:18If the red saxophonist is the first thing you see, then you are a person who likes to
00:21:22systematize and analyze information.
00:21:25You must be good at math and foreign languages.
00:21:28And if you see a portrait of a woman here, then you're an emotional and creative person.
00:21:35Is it a bird?
00:21:36Then you're a daydreamer, though a little absent-minded.
00:21:40But you strive to make the world a better place and invent ways to do so.
00:21:44And if there's a big face of a lion here, then you're a very brave person who's
00:21:49ready to face their insecurities and come out the winner of any fight.
00:21:54And here we have…
00:21:55Crocodiles?
00:21:56Then, maybe you like to be in charge and manage your life.
00:22:01Orders from other people make you suffer because you're a natural leader.
00:22:06If you see a bird in the middle, you're ready to help others.
00:22:09You're reliable and friendly.
00:22:12Ok, if the first thing you see here is a car, then you're a person who appreciates their
00:22:17freedom.
00:22:18You like to break away on an unexpected journey, meet new people, and see new places.
00:22:24If you saw a person with binoculars, it means you have an analytical type of thinking and
00:22:29you like to look at things from afar, often missing small details.
00:22:33And although you can absorb a lot of visual information, you should focus on the smaller
00:22:39things too.
00:22:40If you saw the letter A, then congratulations!
00:22:43You have a very sharp vision, just like an eagle.
00:22:46So hey, you can dive on a salmon!
00:22:49And you have well-developed intuition.
00:22:52Oh, this one is harder!
00:22:54If you're a girl and you've seen a man's face here, then either you're looking for
00:22:59a partner, or your current partner is a priority in your life and you feel a strong emotional
00:23:04connection with him.
00:23:06But if you see a woman's face, then you feel comfortable and self-sufficient.
00:23:12Guys who saw a man's face are concerned about relationships with other men, whether
00:23:16they are colleagues, friends, or even other guys in the gym.
00:23:20If you see a female face, you're looking for your love.
00:23:24But take your time, or else you may push too hard.
00:23:31This is a test for Super Sherlock.
00:23:33Of course, it's two squirrels, right?
00:23:36Well, that means you're pretty lazy, and you don't get too much into details.
00:23:40Now tilt your head a little to the left.
00:23:43Now you can see a woman's face.
00:23:46But if that's what you saw from the beginning, then you're an incredibly attentive person
00:23:51who can get along well with other people.
00:23:54And now we will determine your psychological age.
00:23:58If the first thing you saw was old people's faces, then you have already lived a long
00:24:03and colorful life.
00:24:05You definitely have something to remember.
00:24:07But if you see a young couple sitting next to each other, then you're young and all
00:24:12the fun is waiting for you.
00:24:15Now be ready to give a quick answer.
00:24:18Remember what you see first.
00:24:19Let's go!
00:24:22If you notice a smiling face, you're an optimist.
00:24:25If it's the open book, you're smart and have a well-developed intuition.
00:24:30If it was roses, you're calm and kind.
00:24:33The tilted cross means that you're faithful.
00:24:36Balloons mean cheerfulness and good imagination.
00:24:40If the first thing you saw was a heart, then you're gentle and affectionate.
00:24:45The lion's face means that you're fearless.
00:24:48And if at first you notice the tie, you're determined and diligent.
00:24:53Oh, and if you saw the ice cream cone, then it's time for an eye exam, because there
00:24:59wasn't one in the picture.
00:25:04Get ready for a new set of absolutely amazing optical illusions.
00:25:09Do it hard and don't let them trick you.
00:25:11Number one.
00:25:12Look at these circles attentively, and you'll notice they're rotating.
00:25:24But that's just an illusion.
00:25:25The circles are completely still.
00:25:28Number two.
00:25:29Which is bigger?
00:25:30The hat's height or its width?
00:25:40They're absolutely the same.
00:25:42Your eyes are playing tricks on you.
00:25:45Number three.
00:25:46Which tower is leaning more?
00:25:51Ha, look at that.
00:25:55They're the same.
00:25:57Even though one tower seems to be lopsided when placed next to a copy of itself, this
00:26:01is called the leaning tower illusion.
00:26:04Number four.
00:26:05How many colors do you see in this image?
00:26:16However many you might see, in reality, there are only three.
00:26:20Number five.
00:26:21The patterns in this picture seem to be moving.
00:26:32But once you focus on one of the ovals, the whole image becomes still.
00:26:36Number six.
00:26:38What do you see in this picture?
00:26:39A moving star?
00:26:45Well, the star part is correct, but in reality, it's a static image.
00:26:52Once again, if you concentrate on any of its parts, the picture will stop moving.
00:26:56Number seven.
00:26:58It seems as if there are three cylinders in this image, and they're all rotating.
00:27:09But you know what to do.
00:27:10Stare at the center of the picture and all the movement will stop.
00:27:14Number eight.
00:27:15Which pencil is longer?
00:27:25They are of the same length.
00:27:27Number nine.
00:27:28Can you find three animals in this picture?
00:27:38Three bunnies are hiding in the tree branches.
00:27:42Number ten.
00:27:43Look at this rotating thingy.
00:27:52There's no doubt it's a 3D image, but in reality, it's just a set of rotating figures that creates
00:27:57such a three-dimensional effect.
00:28:00Number eleven.
00:28:01Look at the screen and move your head forward and backward while focusing on the center
00:28:05of the image.
00:28:14When you come closer, the lines will seem to rotate counterclockwise.
00:28:18As soon as you start to move away from the image, the lines will rotate clockwise.
00:28:23Number twelve.
00:28:24There is something hidden in this grid.
00:28:26Can you figure out what it is?
00:28:36If you can't spot it, try to shake your head, move further from the screen, or screw up
00:28:40your eyes.
00:28:41And just in case it hasn't helped either, let me make the grid less bright.
00:28:46Here we go.
00:28:47A lovely kitty.
00:28:49Number fourteen.
00:28:50Can you figure out which word is hidden here?
00:29:00That's bedside.
00:29:03Number fifteen.
00:29:04Look at this image and say which string is tied to the banana.
00:29:15I was almost sure it was string number two, but in fact, that's the third one.
00:29:20Number sixteen.
00:29:21Which word is brighter?
00:29:30If you remove the grid, it'll become obvious that both words are of the same color.
00:29:36Number seventeen.
00:29:37Each horizontal band seems to be lighter in the middle and darker near the boundaries.
00:29:48But in reality, all of them are of a uniform shade.
00:29:52Number eighteen.
00:29:53Which line is longer, A or B?
00:30:04They're both of the same length.
00:30:06This illusion is created because your mind perceives this image in 3D space.
00:30:10That's why your brain tells you that the line which is closer to you must be shorter than
00:30:14the more distant one.
00:30:17Number nineteen.
00:30:18Are the woman's eyes of the same color?
00:30:27In fact, they are.
00:30:29You can make sure of it by comparing the color of her eyes and the hair accessory.
00:30:34Number twenty.
00:30:35At first sight, it's just a red fan rotating over a bright green background.
00:30:39But try to concentrate on the black dot in the middle.
00:30:42You'll notice that the green under the fan is brighter than that of the surrounding ring.
00:30:47And the fan blades are actually redder than the central disc.
00:30:50Number twenty-one.
00:30:52These two discs are pulsating, changing between dark and light.
00:30:56But are they doing it at the same time?
00:30:59Keep watching, and you'll see that it depends on the background.
00:31:02When it's light, the discs pulsate in sync.
00:31:05But when one part of the background is light and the other is dark, the discs seem to pulse
00:31:09not simultaneously.
00:31:11Number twenty-two.
00:31:13Which word is hidden in this image?
00:31:23That's the word quality.
00:31:26Number twenty-three.
00:31:27Which creature has a longer mouth, yellow or green?
00:31:38Their mouths are of the same length.
00:31:41Number twenty-four.
00:31:42How about this picture?
00:31:43Which word does it hide?
00:31:52High five if you spotted the word quite.
00:31:55Number twenty-five.
00:31:56That's how a set of simple straight lines can trick your brain.
00:32:06The square made up of vertical lines looks wider and shorter than the one formed of horizontal
00:32:11lines.
00:32:13Number twenty-six.
00:32:14Look at this pyramid made of elongated diamonds.
00:32:17Are these diamonds darker at the top or at the bottom of the pyramid?
00:32:29All diamonds are identical, even though it surely doesn't look like that.
00:32:32But once we start moving around them, this way, and comparing them with one another,
00:32:36it becomes obvious.
00:32:38Number twenty-seven.
00:32:41hidden in this image.
00:32:50Right you are.
00:32:51There are three foxes over there in the tree.
00:32:54Number twenty-eight.
00:32:55Look at the wheel moving behind the red picket fence.
00:32:57Its spokes seem to be bent at the bottom.
00:33:08There's nothing wrong with the wheel, and the spokes are perfectly straight.
00:33:12Wanna make sure?
00:33:13Look, the fence is becoming transparent.
00:33:16Here you go.
00:33:17Number twenty-nine.
00:33:18Now, this wheel seems to be rotating clockwise, and the spokes are moving counterclockwise.
00:33:24But if you look at one of the spokes attentively, you'll notice it's actually staying in
00:33:28one place.
00:33:29Or rather, it makes a tiny shift forward and then returns to its place.
00:33:34Number thirty.
00:33:35Each word is hidden in this image.
00:33:47It's feather.
00:33:48Number thirty-one.
00:33:49What do you see in this picture?
00:33:59There's no definite answer here.
00:34:01Some people notice footprints, others, five bowling pins.
00:34:06Number thirty-two.
00:34:07How about this picture?
00:34:08Are those three pairs of alternating grooves and ridges?
00:34:11Or maybe you see three shiny oval tubes.
00:34:22The main trick is that the right side of the image looks like a folded surface, and the
00:34:26left resembles the tubes.
00:34:29Number thirty-three.
00:34:30Which word do you see here?
00:34:40It's the word change.
00:34:42Number thirty-four.
00:34:44Look at the blue lines.
00:34:45They seem to be moving in pairs.
00:34:53And how about now?
00:34:54They suddenly form an outline of a diamond.
00:34:58Number thirty-five.
00:34:59These wooden railroad tracks seem to be different in size.
00:35:10The lower one looks larger than the one at the top, but if we switch them, it becomes
00:35:14obvious that they're identical in size.
00:35:17Number thirty-six.
00:35:18Do these horizontal lines seem parallel to you?
00:35:28And what if I tell you they are?
00:35:30And what you see is just an illusion.
00:35:33Number thirty-seven.
00:35:34Try to figure out which line is longer here.
00:35:45If your answer is, come on, I know they're of the same length, you're absolutely right.
00:35:51Number thirty-eight.
00:35:52Can you see anything unusual in this picture?
00:36:03There's a dalmatian hiding here.
00:36:06Number thirty-nine.
00:36:07There seems to be a bulge in the middle of this checkerboard.
00:36:18But in reality, this checkerboard is regular, and each of its checks is perfectly square.
00:36:23You'll see it once we remove the tiny black and white ticks.
00:36:27Number forty.
00:36:28The blue horizontal stripes in this picture can't be parallel, right?
00:36:40But if we remove all the additional elements, it'll become apparent that the lines are
00:36:45Wow, you'll have five seconds for each of the illusions.
00:36:50Get ready for your mind to be bent.
00:36:53Can you tell which of the two yellow lines is longer?
00:36:56Seems obvious to me.
00:36:58Oh wow, I was wrong.
00:37:03None of them is longer.
00:37:04They are exactly the same length.
00:37:06This is a Ponzo illusion, not a Ponzi scheme.
00:37:09Your brain judges an object's size based on its background.
00:37:13Here, your brain decides the upper line that's further away has to be longer to catch up
00:37:17with the line that's closer.
00:37:19Here's another one for you.
00:37:21Do you think these lines are parallel to each other?
00:37:25Yep, they perfectly are.
00:37:30Again, your brain judges them based on their surroundings.
00:37:33All those short intersecting lines make you believe the longer lines are messed up.
00:37:38What about the red lines in this image?
00:37:40Are they straight or curved?
00:37:47This is the Herring illusion.
00:37:49The seemingly curved lines are perfectly straight and parallel to each other.
00:37:53The background makes you think otherwise.
00:37:56How many colors can you see here?
00:38:02Did you get red, purple, and green?
00:38:04In that case, you're all wrong.
00:38:07If you zoom in on this illustration, you can see all the spheres are of the same color.
00:38:12The stripes in the foreground make you believe the spheres are of different colors too.
00:38:16If you remove that foreground from the image, you'll see all the spheres are beige.
00:38:21Welcome to Ames Room.
00:38:23Nothing is impossible here.
00:38:25Which of these two people do you think is larger?
00:38:33Ames Room only seems to be a normal rectangular construction.
00:38:37It has slanted walls and an inclining ceiling and floor.
00:38:41The right corner is closer to you than the left corner.
00:38:44Your brain is used to rectangular rooms, so it corrects the image for you.
00:38:49The room seems normal, and the people inside seem weird.
00:38:53How many prongs do you think this trident has?
00:39:00The correct number is 3.
00:39:02Nah, just kidding, that would be too obvious.
00:39:05The empty space between the prisms forms the central prong.
00:39:09Take a closer look at the top of the prongs.
00:39:11There are just two openings.
00:39:13Can you tell what animal is hiding here?
00:39:20The secret here is to shake your head back and forth, or you can zoom out on the image.
00:39:25When you see the tiny version of it, it's obvious there's a cat hiding behind all those
00:39:29lines.
00:39:30Now focus on one point of this image for at least 15 seconds.
00:39:34Don't think of anything else, just keep looking.
00:39:37Can you see the image disappearing?
00:39:54It happens because the neurons in your brain filter information.
00:39:57They decide what's essential and what's useless.
00:40:00When you focus on one point, your brain receives no new information.
00:40:05Your peripheral vision takes new data from the surrounding white background and adapts
00:40:09the graphic to it.
00:40:11Here's the next illusion for you.
00:40:13Can you tell if the circles are moving or standing still?
00:40:21This image isn't animated.
00:40:23It's an example of a peripheral drift illusion that makes you see still images as moving
00:40:27ones.
00:40:28When you stare at one part of the image without blinking, that part stops moving.
00:40:33Can you count all the black dots in this image?
00:40:363, 4, 6?
00:40:43There are 12 of them, but you can't see them all at once.
00:40:46That's because your peripheral vision fails you at tasks like this.
00:40:51What do you see in this image?
00:40:57If you're sure there are some lines and a light blue circle in the middle, you're wrong.
00:41:02The background is entirely white.
00:41:04You see the non-existent light blue circle because your brain adds color into the bare
00:41:09negative spaces.
00:41:11What about this one?
00:41:12What colors are these funky shapes?
00:41:19Just like in the previous illusion, they're all empty and white.
00:41:22That's a watercolor illusion.
00:41:24Your brain fills in the shape that has a bright line and a darker line at its borders with
00:41:29a brighter color.
00:41:31Now can you tell if this image is 3D?
00:41:38It's perfectly flat.
00:41:40The white shade in the middle creates the bulge effect.
00:41:43If you move closer, you'll notice it's spread its luminance.
00:41:46The task here is simple.
00:41:48Follow this spiral from the beginning to the end.
00:41:52Gotcha!
00:41:56You can't do it because this spiral isn't a spiral.
00:41:59It's made up of concentric circles.
00:42:01Your brain fills in the gaps for you because it's confused by this crazy background.
00:42:07Can you tell which rectangles are darker?
00:42:14Believe it or not, the rectangles under columns A and B are the exact same color.
00:42:19The surrounding black and white bars make you believe column A is way darker.
00:42:24Can you find the right shadow for this fun couple?
00:42:29No, it's this one.
00:42:34Only one of the locks is unlocked.
00:42:36Can you spot it in 5 seconds?
00:42:43Good job!
00:42:45This drawing is missing one piece.
00:42:47Pick the right one out of the 3 possible options.
00:42:55Well done!
00:42:56There's a little mouse hiding somewhere between the mushrooms.
00:43:00Your task is to find it.
00:43:07There it is, cute little thing!
00:43:09One of these jellyfish can't swim because it's an air balloon.
00:43:13Can you see it?
00:43:20Well it does look a lot like a jellyfish.
00:43:23What's that chirping?
00:43:24All birds but one are having a chat.
00:43:27One of them doesn't speak their language.
00:43:34It's a snail right here!
00:43:36I'd love to have some coffee.
00:43:38Please help me find it.
00:43:42Yay, it was hiding here all the time!
00:43:48All penguins look alike, but one is more special than the others.
00:43:52Can you spot it?
00:43:58This little guy right here has slightly different eyes.
00:44:01Let's take it one level up.
00:44:03Can you find the odd one out here?
00:44:11You could be a detective with your sharp eyes!
00:44:14One of these plants is slightly different from the others.
00:44:16You have 5 seconds to find it.
00:44:23Here it is!
00:44:25All these moons must produce a lot of light.
00:44:28Check the odd one out.
00:44:34I knew it!
00:44:37How about a little safari?
00:44:39The zebra on the right is different from its pal on the left in 5 ways.
00:44:43Can you name them all?
00:44:50I only found 3 differences.
00:44:51Oh, now I see!
00:44:54How about these lions?
00:44:58Again, there are 5 not-so-obvious differences between them.
00:45:05Did you get them all?
00:45:07What about these antelopes?
00:45:10Oh, I didn't see the red nose!
00:45:17What a beautiful and peaceful landscape!
00:45:19It's different from the one on the left in 5 ways.
00:45:22Name them all.
00:45:28Well done!
00:45:30Here are 2 scenes from a busy city life for you.
00:45:33The task remains the same.
00:45:39I only managed to find 3 differences here.
00:45:43Let's go see some waterfalls.
00:45:45Nothing is wrong with the second image.
00:45:52I got it!
00:45:53What about you?
00:45:55The fall is my favorite season.
00:45:57Can you notice 5 ways these pictures don't match?
00:46:03Fantastic!
00:46:07It's beach time, but you can't relax until you find 5 differences here.
00:46:17Enjoy your well-deserved rest!
00:46:20Alright, enough, moving on!
00:46:23What you see in the next images can tell a lot about your personality.
00:46:27Let's start with this one.
00:46:33If it's a woman reading a book to you, you're a practical and goal-oriented person.
00:46:37You work a lot.
00:46:38You're great at planning and know how to keep your emotions under control.
00:46:43Those who notice Salvador Dali's face first of all are artists at heart.
00:46:47Even if your job doesn't have to do with creativity, you find your own ways to express
00:46:52yourself through drawing, writing, or music.
00:46:55If you noticed an armchair first, you never look for easy and obvious solutions in your
00:46:59life.
00:47:00You always surprise everyone else with your unique vision of the world.
00:47:04How about this one?
00:47:06What do you see here?
00:47:11If they're women with umbrellas to you, you've plenty of friends because you're open-minded
00:47:16and mix with new people easily.
00:47:18You enjoy spending time surrounded by others and share everything with them.
00:47:23If it's a sad man's face to you, you're wise beyond your years.
00:47:28But you need to stop and think about life.
00:47:30At these moments, you prefer to be alone.
00:47:33You don't have that many friends, but you're loyal and always ready to help them.
00:47:38What can you say about this image?
00:47:45If it's a man sitting down by the water to you, you must be smart and careful with
00:47:49what you do and what you say.
00:47:51You always think twice before making an important decision and rarely regret anything you've
00:47:57done.
00:47:58If you see a face here, you're more emotional than rational.
00:48:01You'll always pick a new and unknown path and never think for too long when you have
00:48:05to make a decision.
00:48:07It's easy to make you cry or smile, but you get over things quickly as well.
00:48:12Here's another illusion for you.
00:48:19If it looks like a couple of playful squirrels to you, you must be a natural explorer.
00:48:23You don't feel happy staying in one place and are always the first to try new things
00:48:28and visit new places.
00:48:29You're active, charismatic, and fun to be around.
00:48:33If you clearly see a woman's face here, you prefer to stick to the plan and don't
00:48:37like surprises.
00:48:38You're a natural leader and great at delegating tasks to others.
00:48:42They respect you and follow your lead.
00:48:45What about this one?
00:48:51If it looks like a lifeless forested area to you, you're most likely better at sciences
00:48:56than at arts.
00:48:57You can fix any gadget or at least carefully follow the instructions to one of those.
00:49:02Your mind is a well-organized chamber.
00:49:05If you instantly saw animals here, you must be into arts and creativity.
00:49:09You don't even know manuals exist.
00:49:12You like to live in the moment and always listen to your heart.
00:49:16Hey there!
00:49:17Are you ready to get your mind blown by some absolutely stunning optical illusions?
00:49:22Or do you want to check how easily your mind can get tricked?
00:49:26Then watch our 11 optical illusions and let me know which impressed you the most.
00:49:31So here's the first one.
00:49:32Look at it attentively.
00:49:34What do you see here?
00:49:44Most people are sure they're looking at a 3D sphere on a patterned monochrome background.
00:49:49Or maybe you even feel that the ball is suspended in the air in front of some flat surface.
00:49:54In reality, this is a 2D image.
00:49:57The illusion occurs because of how the elements of the pattern are placed.
00:50:02Another 3D image which is actually totally flat.
00:50:05I don't know about you but it seems to me that I'm looking at sand dunes colored in
00:50:08a dazzle of zebras.
00:50:20But no, this effect occurs thanks to the different thickness and position of the stripes.
00:50:27Now look at this picture.
00:50:29Don't take your eyes off of it even for a moment.
00:50:32See?
00:50:33The circles are moving.
00:50:43It's a popular motion illusion.
00:50:45One of the coolest things about it is that it grinds to a halt if you look at only one
00:50:48part of the image.
00:50:50Try it out.
00:50:51And if you start looking around, it begins to move again.
00:50:53Is it magic?
00:50:56These circles might look simple and unassuming at first.
00:50:59But try moving your head back and forth while keeping your focus on the dot in the center
00:51:03of the image.
00:51:05Do you see that the circles formed by the rhombi start to rotate?
00:51:17When you're tilting your head towards the screen, they move in one direction.
00:51:21When you get farther from the image, they move in the opposite direction.
00:51:25And isn't that cool?
00:51:27How about something even more baffling?
00:51:30Look at this image.
00:51:31This grating is moving vertically, right?
00:51:34Not really.
00:51:35It's moving diagonally.
00:51:45This illusion occurs when a diagonally striped pole rotates horizontally around its vertical
00:51:49axis.
00:51:50To the viewer, it appears as though the stripes are moving downward rather than around the
00:51:54pole.
00:51:55Why so?
00:51:56Because you see the pole through a vertical window, which provides you with very little
00:52:00information about what's actually happening to it.
00:52:04Look at this beauty.
00:52:06Doesn't this kinetic illusion make you feel as if the image is both streaming, shimmering
00:52:10and moving all at the same time?
00:52:22But the picture is actually a bunch of lines of the same color coming from the common center.
00:52:27The next illusion you're going to see is beautiful.
00:52:31The longer you look at the picture, the less static it seems.
00:52:34The image appears to be rotating, even though it's actually not moving, not even a bit.
00:52:48This illusion occurs as a result of your eyes reacting to the size variations of the circles
00:52:53and interacting color contrasts.
00:52:56Wow, isn't this image bright and pretty?
00:53:00But don't stare at it for too long.
00:53:02It can give you a slight headache and make your eyes hurt.
00:53:05Anyway, now that I've warned you, doesn't it seem to you that all these rings are rotating
00:53:09in opposite directions?
00:53:20I know this effect is extremely strong, but I promise, it's not an animated gif.
00:53:24It's a perfectly still image.
00:53:26But the design and colors make it look as if the rings are moving.
00:53:31Hey, look at this 3D purple landscape.
00:53:35Isn't it charming?
00:53:36The only problem is that, I bet you've already guessed, this is not a 3D image.
00:53:50It's the unusual bright pattern that creates this illusion.
00:53:55Here's another 3D illusion.
00:53:57This time, it's a checkerboard that seems to be bulging.
00:54:01Look at it attentively.
00:54:03The squares are perfectly straight.
00:54:05Their borderlines are parallel and perpendicular.
00:54:07But your brain insists this image is domed.
00:54:20The explanation is connected with the dots.
00:54:22They don't actually touch the borders of the squares.
00:54:25There's always a narrow margin, but your brain interprets those margins like lines,
00:54:30which messes up with your perception.
00:54:31And instead of the right angles, some of them seem acute while others appear obtuse.
00:54:38In this image, all of the edges are either vertical, horizontal, or at a 45-degree angle.
00:54:44But does it seem this way to you?
00:54:46I bet your answer is no.
00:54:57And there's one more thing you can do with this image to make it even cooler.
00:55:01Pause this video so that the image is static and move your scroll bar up and down.
00:55:06It'll appear that the illusion also has some elements of motion to it.
00:55:10Awesome!
00:55:11Now, how about we try to figure out what makes it possible for optical illusions to trick
00:55:16our mind.
00:55:17I mean, you know 100% that what your eyes are telling your brain is wrong.
00:55:22But you just can't make yourself stop seeing it.
00:55:26Scientists are sure that sometimes our brain may unconsciously bend our perception of the
00:55:30world to meet our expectations.
00:55:33It fills in the gaps using your past experiences.
00:55:36In other words, it's not your eyes that play tricks on you.
00:55:39It's the way your brain interprets the image sent by the eyes.
00:55:44As an expert said, an optical illusion is a mismatch between the visual impression of
00:55:48the actual properties of the object.
00:55:51Anyway, my favorite illusion is the one with bright rotating circles.
00:55:56What about you?
00:55:57Share your opinion in the comments.
00:56:01They say seeing is believing, but is it really so?
00:56:05Optical illusions have a mind-boggling way to trick our brains.
00:56:09They use a combination of colors, light, or particular patterns that can make us see things
00:56:13that aren't there.
00:56:15Today, we're taking our brains for a test drive to see how these illusions work.
00:56:20If you look at this image attentively, you'll notice a moving square that appears to be
00:56:25changing tones.
00:56:26What shades do you see?
00:56:27Dark, then light, then dark again.
00:56:30Wrong!
00:56:31The square doesn't change color at all.
00:56:34The creator of this illusion is a Japanese psychologist and artist, Akiyoshi Kitaoka.
00:56:39According to him, you can see your own brain changing its guess about the color of the
00:56:44square.
00:56:45Color is already an illusion created by our brains.
00:56:48It happens so that the color is created inside our visual systems.
00:56:53What our eyes perceive as blue is actually a wavelength that is reflected as that color.
00:56:59Neuroscientists say that about 50% of our brain is involved in the vision process.
00:57:05Visual signals are dispersed to more than 30 areas of our brain.
00:57:08Each area has a special function to process color, motion, depth, and form.
00:57:14All this information is combined, and voila!
00:57:17We can distinguish shape and color.
00:57:20Funnily enough, neuroscientists still don't understand the details of how all this happens,
00:57:24and neither do we, but we sure give it a try.
00:57:28Let's take a look at this staircase.
00:57:30It looks pretty simple, right?
00:57:33Well now, let's flip the image upside down.
00:57:35It still looks like a staircase, but instead of going from right to left, it looks like
00:57:39it's going from left to right.
00:57:41But don't blink!
00:57:43If you blink, the illusion will disappear, and you will be left with the original image.
00:57:47Whoa, I think my brain just got really tired.
00:57:52This illusion is known as Schroeder's staircase, and it was invented by a German scientist,
00:57:56Heinrich Schroeder, back in 1858.
00:57:59It's really simple, yet it reveals a fundamental mechanism of how our brain works.
00:58:04Let's understand why.
00:58:06If you sorta disassemble the staircase, you'll notice that the image is flat.
00:58:10What our brain perceives as a 3D image is just a combination of shadow and light.
00:58:16This means that the 3D itself is already an optical illusion.
00:58:21This happens because our brain captures images and tries to fit them into what it already
00:58:25knows.
00:58:26So it sees a shadow in a 2D image, and it understands depth.
00:58:30Basically, it creates an unreal perspective of the object in front of our eyes.
00:58:35In this case, we call it a three-dimensional perspective.
00:58:40In 2020, Japanese mathematician Kokichi Sugihara took this illusion one step further.
00:58:46Let's take a look.
00:58:48At first glance, it looks just like a regular staircase.
00:58:51Again.
00:58:52But now, let's place an object at the top of the staircase and flip it at a 100-degree
00:58:57angle.
00:58:58I can't believe my eyes with this one!
00:59:01The object that appeared to be on top suddenly looks like it's at the bottom of the staircase!
00:59:06No wonder this work won Best Illusion of 2020!
00:59:09According to Sugihara, with this illusion, we are literally witnessing the way our brain
00:59:13tricks us into perceiving unreal things.
00:59:17At the heart of the illusion is a simple trick.
00:59:19The stairs aren't really stairs.
00:59:22They continue to be a flat 2D surface, making clever use of angles and shading to trick
00:59:27our brains.
00:59:29The 2D image was printed and glued into a basic 3D structure, but there is no real depth
00:59:34in the stairs, just the illusion of it.
00:59:37Got it?
00:59:39Look at this image for a moment and tell me how many bars you can count.
00:59:43This illusion has left the internet baffled.
00:59:46People have counted as many as 11 bars, but most count about 7 to 8 bars.
00:59:52According to the creator of this image, there are only 6 complete bars.
00:59:55Try counting from top to bottom and you'll notice that the upper bars are real.
01:00:00But by the time you get to the 6th bar, things start to get blurry and confusing.
01:00:05That's because the last 2 bars are incomplete, so when you try to count them, they appear
01:00:09to multiply and only leave you more confused.
01:00:12If you trace your pointer down the 7th and 8th bar, you'll be able to see that they are
01:00:17incomplete.
01:00:18They were only put there to confuse you.
01:00:22Can you tell if the dark blue lines are parallel to each other or whether they're inclined?
01:00:28They sure look crooked, but in reality, they're not.
01:00:32This classical optical illusion was first described over 100 years ago, but it wasn't
01:00:37until the 1970s that it got its current name.
01:00:41The cafe wall illusion
01:00:43A guy named Steve Simpson noticed a similar effect on the wall of a cafe in Bristol, and
01:00:48here we are.
01:00:49Now, let's see how this works.
01:00:52First, let's blur the image a little bit.
01:00:55Oh, a little bit more.
01:00:57There you go.
01:00:58This way, you'll be able to see that the dark blue lines are parallel to each other.
01:01:02If you look closely, the little black and white bricks at the intersection of wide lines
01:01:07are what made this illusion possible.
01:01:09In addition to that, the curved elements inside the blue lines help to make the elusive effect
01:01:14even stronger.
01:01:15We'll understand why in a little bit.
01:01:19Up next, look at this black square crisscrossed with perpendicular white lines.
01:01:24If you look attentively, you'll notice that the white dots situated at the intersection
01:01:28of the grid shift their color from white to gray and black.
01:01:32When you concentrate on a particular dot, you'll see that it's white, but as soon as
01:01:37your attention wanders, the dot turns gray.
01:01:40That's the Hermann grid illusion.
01:01:42Amazing, isn't it?
01:01:44We can take this illusion one step further by positioning white dots at the intersection
01:01:49of gray lines.
01:01:50All of them are placed on top of the black background.
01:01:53If you look at this image for long enough, you'll notice black dots starting to pop up
01:01:57at the intersections of the grid, creating a scintillating effect.
01:02:02Another name for this illusion is a simultaneous light contrast illusion.
01:02:06As you perceive the dots as white at one moment, and then, almost immediately, you see them
01:02:11as black.
01:02:13So, why do our senses let us down by making us see gray or black instead of white?
01:02:20This illusion demonstrates one of the most important principles of human perception.
01:02:24You don't always see things for what they really are.
01:02:28The retinal cells in our eyes act as light receptors.
01:02:32When only one cell receptor gets illuminated, it perceives more light than when its colleagues
01:02:37are also illuminated.
01:02:39This prevents the firing of nearby receptors.
01:02:42With the Hermann grid illusion, the white lines are arranged in such a way that there's
01:02:46more light around the intersections than along the lines themselves.
01:02:50Thus, the dots at the intersections are more inhibited and you see darker spots.
01:02:57This next illusion is called the Pac-Man chaser.
01:03:00You'll see why.
01:03:01Stare at the central cross for five seconds.
01:03:08The image appears to be in motion, doesn't it?
01:03:11And you might also see a green disc appear in between the lilac spheres from time to
01:03:15time.
01:03:16Now, this image allows us to witness two illusions simultaneously.
01:03:21Even though the image appears to be in continuous motion, nothing here is moving.
01:03:25We promise.
01:03:26This phenomenon is known as the phi phenomenon.
01:03:29It happens when stationary objects are placed side by side and illuminated rapidly one after
01:03:35the other, creating an illusion of movement.
01:03:39Now look at the center of the image again.
01:03:41Can you see the green disc?
01:03:43This illusion is called an afterimage, and this happens when your brain tries to substitute
01:03:48an item with something else as the original item disappears.
01:03:52But why is it green, you might ask?
01:03:55That's because green is lilac's complementary color.
01:03:58If we were to change the color of the disc to blue, then the color of the gap changes
01:04:03to yellow, which is blue's complementary color.
01:04:06Neat, right?
01:04:18Look at the dot in the center for 10 seconds.
01:04:263, 2, 1.
01:04:29Now, quickly look at the ceiling and blink a few times.
01:04:32The colored squares have just moved there.
01:04:35What a beautiful pattern of rectangles!
01:04:37But just give it a second look, and you'll see they are, in fact, circles floating against
01:04:41the striped background.
01:04:43Stare at the central dot for 10 seconds and see what happens.
01:04:56Wow, the colored circles switched places!
01:04:59In fact, they're both gray now, and your brain makes you see colors that aren't really
01:05:04there.
01:05:05This illusion can make your phone grow.
01:05:07Stare at it.
01:05:08Magic is happening.
01:05:09Keep staring.
01:05:10Now, quickly look at the back of your phone.
01:05:13The logo is moving.
01:05:15How many colors do you see in this image?
01:05:17If you answered 3, you're a bit wrong.
01:05:20There are just two colors here, black and white.
01:05:23The grid creates the illusion of gray as they intersect.
01:05:26What about this one?
01:05:28There are just three colors here, red, blue, and yellow.
01:05:32The inner squares only seem different because of the grids and backgrounds.
01:05:36This grid is broken, but you can fix it right now.
01:05:39Stare at the center of the grid for 15 seconds and see what happens.
01:05:56Told ya!
01:05:57It all looks in order now.
01:05:58This happens because your brain prefers to see regular patterns.
01:06:02It's spread from the center to the edges of the grid.
01:06:05This image is perfectly static.
01:06:07Just stare at one part of it.
01:06:08Yep, it isn't moving anymore.
01:06:11This is one example of peripheral drift illusions.
01:06:14Your brain lags a bit when it's processing areas with different light intensity and makes
01:06:18you think the image is animated.
01:06:21Can you tell if this one is moving or static?
01:06:24I give you 10 seconds to figure it out.
01:06:35Static again.
01:06:36Contrasting colors create the illusion of motion.
01:06:40How many animals do you see here?
01:06:42There are 8 of them hiding between the lines.
01:06:45If you saw 5 or more, you'd have the eye of an eagle.
01:06:49Can you tell which of these two yellow lines is longer?
01:06:52It seems obvious the answer is the higher line.
01:06:55In fact, they're absolutely the same length.
01:06:58Your brain gets distracted by other elements of the image, like background lines.
01:07:02And you see the image in a distorted way.
01:07:06What about these two lines?
01:07:07Which one is longer?
01:07:09Again, they're the same length.
01:07:11The way circles are set makes the upper line seem longer to you.
01:07:16How many colors are mentioned here?
01:07:23If you got 7, great job!
01:07:25Nothing can distract you.
01:07:27Can you find the mistake here?
01:07:33The number sequence is alright, but you don't need an extra V.
01:07:38Let's go under the seat.
01:07:40Find 3 differences between these images in 10 seconds.
01:07:53Good job!
01:07:57Same task here.
01:08:03Did you spot them all?
01:08:06These images are different in 3 details.
01:08:09Can you name them?
01:08:15Fantastic!
01:08:18Oh, this looks delicious!
01:08:20Again, there are 3 differences between the images.
01:08:28Hope you found them all!
01:08:32These two images are different in 5 details.
01:08:35Try to name them in 10 seconds.
01:08:47Well done!
01:08:50Can you find 5 differences between these two?
01:08:59Well, nothing can hide from you!
01:09:03Help these kittens find 8 hidden objects.
01:09:16Meow, thank you!
01:09:21This dog is made of many little things.
01:09:23Can you spot 13 of them?
01:09:32Amazing!
01:09:37The fall is a busy time for farmers.
01:09:39Make their life easier and find 20 hidden objects they need.
01:09:51Wow, you could be a detective!
01:09:57Did you find 20 objects in this image?
01:09:59Feel free to pause the video if you need more time.
01:10:10Great job!
01:10:15This time, you only have to find 12 hidden things,
01:10:18but it's trickier because of all those dots.
01:10:29You did it!
01:10:33Moving on.
01:10:35What you see in these optical illusions can tell a lot about your personality.
01:10:39What is this one to you?
01:10:41Those who clearly see the mountains covered with snow mostly have their feet on the ground.
01:10:47You take things the way they are, like to plan everything and move ahead step by step.
01:10:52If you spotted the horses first, you like to be ahead of everyone and live at full speed.
01:10:57You're rather impatient and get bored of tedious work that needs a lot of attention.
01:11:02Now, what catches your eye here?
01:11:05If it's a peaceful creek in the woods, you always see the big picture.
01:11:09You stay calm even when everyone around you is losing it.
01:11:13You always know how to choose the right option out of many quickly.
01:11:17If it's a grumpy face to you, you tend to overthink things and see a catch in every situation and offer.
01:11:23You don't make friends easily, but when you do, it's forever.
01:11:27Time for the next illusion.
01:11:29Those who see a face here, you have a bright mind and you like to keep it busy.
01:11:34You're good at solving tasks of any difficulty, and you come up with the best ideas.
01:11:39Those who see a beautiful lady in a dress in this one, you're artists at heart.
01:11:44You take inspiration almost from anything and anywhere.
01:11:47You write, paint, sing, or create music, and it makes you happy.
01:11:52This one's pretty plain, or is it?
01:11:55If you see an owl landing, you're a great team player and easy to work with.
01:12:00You don't mind sharing credit for what you've done with others.
01:12:03Sometimes you're too afraid to speak up.
01:12:05Remember, your ideas are worth it.
01:12:08If it's a girl looking in the distance to you, you have amazing communication skills.
01:12:13You feel comfortable even in front of the crowd and like to share everything about your life on social media.
01:12:19How about this one?
01:12:21If it's a waterfall to you, you love travel and explore new places.
01:12:25You aren't afraid of anything, except for boredom.
01:12:28You always say yes to new adventures and places.
01:12:31If you see a young couple here, you're a true romantic.
01:12:35You believe that love always wins.
01:12:37Even when someone's mean to you, you forgive them easily and try to find an explanation for what they did.
01:12:43What are your thoughts on this image?
01:12:46If it's a person standing alone on a rock to you, you're mostly an introvert.
01:12:50You need your alone time to bring your thoughts in order and recharge.
01:12:54You don't have many friends, but you're loyal to them.
01:12:57If it's a face of a girl to you, you often live in the world of your dreams.
01:13:02You always try to improve your life and sometimes forget to see the good in everyday life.
01:13:07Try seizing the day every once in a while.
01:13:10What does this one look like to you?
01:13:13If it's a pattern of trees, you aren't afraid to tell the truth no matter what it is.
01:13:18You have a point on anything, and it's not easy to make you change your mind.
01:13:22Sometimes it's okay to ask others for advice and follow it.
01:13:26If you see a girl with her back to you, you're afraid to hurt the feelings of others.
01:13:31You try to avoid conflict by all means, and sometimes agree with others just to make them feel better.
01:13:37What animal do you see first in this curious pattern?
01:13:40If the giraffe is the first animal you saw, you're funny, influential, and charismatic.
01:13:46Like me.
01:13:47You're spontaneous and always full of energy.
01:13:50That's why you have plenty of friends.
01:13:52You can convince anyone of anything.
01:13:54Use this talent wisely.
01:13:56If you spotted the cat first, you don't like talking a lot and prefer to watch from a distance and analyze what you see.
01:14:03You're independent and self-sufficient, so you make your own rules and follow them.
01:14:08If you saw the duck first, you are a 100% optimist.
01:14:12You enjoy every moment and enjoy looking on the bright side of life.
01:14:17You enjoy exploring new places, learning new skills, and your curiosity has absolutely no limits.
01:14:24If the elephant has caught your eye first, you are loyal and genuine.
01:14:28You care deeply about everything and everyone around you.
01:14:31Your family and friends know they can always ask you for help, and you'll solve any problem.
01:14:37In case you noticed the bear first, you're logical and conservative.
01:14:41You have your own values, and you like to live by the rules.
01:14:44You're thoughtful and observant and aim for harmony.
01:14:48Those who paid attention to the rabbit, you're full of energy and spread joy like no other person.
01:14:53You have a great sense of humor and rich imagination.
01:14:56You like to share that happiness with others and easily become the soul of any party.
01:15:01In case the lion was the first animal you saw, you're a leader by nature.
01:15:06You like setting goals and achieving them, no matter how hard it gets.
01:15:10People gladly follow you because you're always 100% positive of your success.
01:15:16And if you saw an octopus, an optometrist is in your future because there's no octopus there.
01:15:22Time for an eye test. Eh, just joking with you.
01:15:28This fresh set of optical illusions will definitely challenge your visual perception.
01:15:33If your brain isn't happy when you look at things that spin and flash,
01:15:37be careful and get somebody to watch this astonishing illusionary art with you.
01:15:41Ready? Go full screen and let's get started.
01:15:45Take a look at this pair of circles.
01:15:53It's not an illusion. They're identical and they do rotate.
01:15:57But they don't actually move across the screen.
01:16:00The arrows confuse your brain, so it seems that the circles are shrinking and even moving back and forth.
01:16:05If you manage to focus your gaze so that they stop moving, you're a wizard.
01:16:11What about this shining star? Is it static or dynamic?
01:16:16Although the star seems to be pulsing, its size doesn't change at all.
01:16:21But its popping color creates an illusion of movement.
01:16:25Let's move on to our next one.
01:16:27Check this out. Can you spot any movement?
01:16:36No, it's not moving at all.
01:16:39Check this out. Can you spot any movement?
01:16:50This picture is static.
01:16:52But if you take your time to look at these flowers carefully,
01:16:55your brain will definitely convince you that they're moving.
01:16:59What about this picture?
01:17:10The direction of this pattern makes the brain think that the circle is rotating to the left.
01:17:15But it's a lie.
01:17:17The same goes for this cute pattern.
01:17:28Can you see it spinning around?
01:17:31What about this picture? Can you spot any movement?
01:17:40Well, in this case, it's not surprising because this image is animated.
01:17:45An optical illusion is not always an optical illusion, so be careful.
01:17:50Let's take a look at the next one.
01:18:00This star seems to be dancing because its asymmetrical shape confuses your brain's expectations.
01:18:06Maybe it's time to ask ourselves,
01:18:08what else is my brain lying to me about right now?
01:18:12What can you say about this beautiful pattern?
01:18:15Is it just a basic optical illusion or an animated video?
01:18:28That's right, it's an animation.
01:18:31Here's our next one.
01:18:34Here's our next one.
01:18:36If you focus all your attention on the middle of this picture, it will soon begin to move.
01:18:50But in fact, it stays the same.
01:18:53Don't let your brain play tricks on you.
01:18:55Your perception of this image may change if you blink a bunch of times and shake your head.
01:19:01Moving on, take a look at this tricky pattern.
01:19:04Is this image static?
01:19:14Yes, it truly is.
01:19:17Some optical illusions work by fooling around with contrasts in our field of vision.
01:19:31These two circles consist of small rotating striped circles.
01:19:35They appear to change the direction of rotating
01:19:38thanks to how our brains deal with information immediately within our focus.
01:19:43It's different from the way it processes peripheral information.
01:19:46You can see it when you focus on one circle and then on another.
01:19:51Are you dizzy yet?
01:19:52Let's move on to the next one.
01:19:54Zigzag is a great tool to create a bunch of optical illusions that can make you feel like you're flying.
01:20:00But this particular zigzag pattern is animated.
01:20:03Is it?
01:20:13Nope, it's a static picture.
01:20:15Be careful with zigzags.
01:20:17The next optical illusion will make you see with your eyes closed.
01:20:21All you have to do is stare at this Marilyn Monroe's nose at the center of this portrait.
01:20:27Continue staring at the same spot for at least 7 seconds.
01:20:31And try not to blink.
01:20:32Ready?
01:20:41Now take a look at your ceiling and blink a bunch of times.
01:20:44Close your eyes.
01:20:45Can you still see the portrait?
01:20:47Don't worry, it'll disappear in a few seconds.
01:20:50This optical illusion is called an afterimage.
01:20:53It appears after you've stared at an image for some time.
01:20:57Usually it requires around 30 seconds.
01:21:00Then you close your eyes or look at a white piece of paper afterwards.
01:21:04Overstimulation makes the rods and cones in your eyes lose sensitivity.
01:21:09That's why for a short period afterward, you interpret colors as their paired primary color.
01:21:15Now let's take a look at this tricky pattern.
01:21:18Is this image static or dynamic?
01:21:30It's not an optical illusion.
01:21:32This pattern is animated.
01:21:34If you managed to guess, great job!
01:21:37Now let's take a look at this one.
01:21:40Do these spheres move across the screen?
01:21:49Nope, they don't.
01:21:51If you were careful enough, you noticed the top moving when you squinted and concentrated on the spheres.
01:21:57This optical illusion is static.
01:22:08But if you take your time and focus on the center of the screen, it will begin to rotate.
01:22:14Let's move on to our next illusion.
01:22:17Let's move on to our next one.
01:22:19This optical illusion will make you feel like a magician and level up your concentration skills.
01:22:24At this point, you probably see that the static circles begin to move, pop and spin slightly.
01:22:30But which way?
01:22:40There's no right answer here.
01:22:43The largest circle probably spins to the left.
01:22:46But if you switch your focus to the center of the image, the same circle will begin to spin to the right.
01:22:52The movement will change depending on which layer of this image you're currently focusing on.
01:22:58Arrows inside these colorful circles may confuse your vision.
01:23:03Try not to look at them, and you'll notice that the circles inside this illusion aren't changing their shape or moving at all.
01:23:10It's pretty clear that this crazy watermelon isn't spinning.
01:23:14Isn't it?
01:23:16Nope.
01:23:17If you screw up with your eyes, you can verify this by focusing your gaze on the sphere.
01:23:22See? It doesn't move anymore.
01:23:25This figure can begin to move like a snake, and the black portion of the sphere will begin to rotate.
01:23:31But which way?
01:23:33Let's move on to our next illusion.
01:23:36Let's move on to our next illusion.
01:23:39Let's move on to our next illusion.
01:23:41This figure can begin to move like a snake, and the black points will begin to blink white.
01:23:55But don't let your brain fool you. This image is still the same.
01:24:00Are you dizzy yet?
01:24:02Let's experiment with disappearing dots.
01:24:05Focus on the central green dot. Try not to blink for a while.
01:24:12You will see one or more of the yellow dots disappearing, and then reappearing randomly.
01:24:18Here's another illusion with disappearing dots.
01:24:21Thousands of people worldwide complained that this simple optical illusion had made them question reality.
01:24:27There are 12 black dots at the intersections of this image, but your brain won't let you see them all at once.
01:24:34Well, how many dots did you see?
01:24:37There are 12 black dots in this image, and it's a fact.
01:24:41But most people can't see all 12 dots at once.
01:24:44When you're focusing on that black dot in the center of your field of view,
01:24:48your visual system is automatically filling in what's going on around it.
01:24:52You can't see all 12 dots at once.
01:24:55You can't see all 12 dots at once.
01:24:58You can't see all 12 dots at once.
01:25:01You can't see all 12 dots at once.
01:25:03Your brain is automatically filling in what's going on around it.
01:25:06And this regular pattern of grey lines on a white background makes your brain suggest that there are no black dots at all.
01:25:13That's why you miss the intermittent black dots, or they disappear and reappear as your eye jitters around.
01:25:20This cute animation is also very tricky.
01:25:24It pictures a moon and six stars surrounding it.
01:25:27There's also a dotted circular layer moving in the background.
01:25:30Try not to move your head at all.
01:25:33If you manage to focus your eyes on the moon and stay perfectly still,
01:25:37you'll soon notice that the stars begin to disappear.
01:25:40How many of them did you make disappear?
01:25:51There's no one correct answer here.
01:25:54The number of disappeared stars depends on your perception.
01:25:57This tricky wheel can make your brain think that it rotates, but it's a lie.
01:26:10You may notice that the wheel changes the direction when you tilt your head to the right or to the left.
01:26:16This trick will make your hands melt like water.
01:26:19Don't worry, it's not forever.
01:26:21Keep staring at the center of the screen for 30 seconds.
01:26:24Try not to blink.
01:26:25Try not to blink.
01:26:56Now, take a look at your hands. Are they melting?
01:27:00You can also look at some text and notice that your vision is wavy.
01:27:04Take a look at this tricky optical illusion.
01:27:07What can you say about this wheel? Is it static or dynamic?
01:27:19It's static. Your brain plays tricks on you.
01:27:22Now let's give your eyes a little break by changing the task.
01:27:26Can you spot an odd monkey out?
01:27:37Here it is.
01:27:39Can you find a different monster out?
01:27:42This guy in the right corner doesn't look as happy as the others.
01:27:46There are many zeros in here.
01:27:48Can you also see another hidden number?
01:28:00Here it is.
01:28:02Does this pattern make you happy or sad?
01:28:11This pattern consists of red apples only.
01:28:22Nope, here's one tomato.
01:28:25Can you find two similar emojis among this variety?
01:28:37Here they are.
01:28:38What about this set of emojis? Can you see two identical emojis?
01:28:51Here they are.
01:28:53Take a look at these emojis. Are they all different?
01:28:56Nope, these two emojis are similar.
01:28:59How many emojis can you find among this variety?
01:29:11There are three.
01:29:13What about this collection? Can you see three different emojis?
01:29:26Can you spot any identical emojis here?
01:29:37This task is tricky. All these emojis are different.
01:29:41If you managed to crack our trick, good job!
01:29:44Take a look at this set. Can you find a pair of identical emojis?
01:29:57Nope, it's impossible, because these two are similar.
01:30:02Does this cat crowd have any odd details?
01:30:12This guy over here is not a cat. It's a rabbit.
01:30:16Can you find a four-leaf clover in here?
01:30:27Here it is. Lucky you!
01:30:32How many shades of grey can you count in this bar?
01:30:42The correct answer is 11.
01:30:45Nah, just kidding. The bar in the middle is one constant color.
01:30:49The background makes you see more than one shade of grey here.
01:30:52You can see it if you cover the spaces above and below the bar.
01:30:56Can you tell which of the surfaces is darker? Is it A or B?
01:31:08Surface A only seems obviously darker.
01:31:11In reality, they are exactly the same color.
01:31:13Cover the middle of the drawing with your hand to check it.
01:31:16Scientists still can't explain this illusion.
01:31:19One theory says this might be because of how your brain
01:31:22interprets the signals from the photoreceptors in your eyes.
01:31:24The most active cells reduce the activity in neighboring ones,
01:31:28and this creates a contrast that's not in fact real.
01:31:32Now, find the darkest square in this picture.
01:31:42Whichever square you chose, you can't be right.
01:31:45They're all the same color, just set against different backgrounds.
01:31:49Moving on. Do you pick white or black pieces? I'll let you choose.
01:31:55Well, you can't pick black or white here because the pieces are all the same color.
01:32:00The background and the way you perceive light explains this illusion.
01:32:04How many colors do you see here?
01:32:14I clearly see four. Hmm, it's actually two.
01:32:18Red and white are the same color.
01:32:20I clearly see four. Hmm, it's actually two.
01:32:23Red and green, one shade of each.
01:32:26You get the illusion there are different colors here
01:32:29because some of them are surrounded by white and some by green boxes.
01:32:33By the way, white isn't a color in scientific terms.
01:32:36It's the presence of all colors. That's why we don't count it as one.
01:32:40Here's another one for you. Which side is darker?
01:32:50Nope, it's not the right side.
01:32:53It's one shade of red that seems darker on the right because of the black background.
01:32:57Oh no, this table is tilting to the right and about to turn over. Or is it?
01:33:09No worries, it's perfectly stable.
01:33:12The slanted lines create this tilting effect.
01:33:15Both rectangles are parallel. You can check it with a ruler.
01:33:19How many faults do you see in this square?
01:33:29The correct answer is zero.
01:33:31This square by Walter Ehrenstein is perfect.
01:33:34It seems curved because it's placed inside a pattern of concentric circles.
01:33:40Would you prefer a rectangular or square table?
01:33:49No matter which one you chose, just take any.
01:33:53They're of exactly the same shape and size.
01:33:56Here's a classic Ponzo illusion.
01:33:59Which of the green lines is longer?
01:34:08It's the one in the foreground.
01:34:11Just kidding, they're the same length.
01:34:13This illusion works because your brain interprets the image with perspective.
01:34:16And it's just a simple 2D image.
01:34:20How about a ride?
01:34:22Do you think this Ferris wheel is moving clockwise or counterclockwise?
01:34:33Sorry guys, the ride is closed today.
01:34:36Any movement you see here is just an illusion.
01:34:39Here's an easy one for you.
01:34:41Try to quickly say the color of these words.
01:34:47Hey, it takes forever to focus on the colors without reading them.
01:34:51The right half of your brain is trying to name the colors.
01:34:54And the left half is trying to make you say the words.
01:34:57This is known as the Stroop effect.
01:34:59And it's used as a test for jobs where concentration is a must.
01:35:03Can you count all the grey dots at the intersections in this grid?
01:35:17The correct answer is zero.
01:35:20This is a Hermann grid illusion.
01:35:22Your brain makes you think they are grey dots at the intersections because of the dark surroundings.
01:35:27If you look closer, all the dots are gone.
01:35:30Another good old classic, Necker cube.
01:35:33This was discovered in the 19th century.
01:35:36Do you think the blue wall is in the block or on the block?
01:35:46Is it the back wall or the side wall?
01:35:49There's no correct answer, so keep guessing.
01:35:52Is this just a set of some geometrical shapes or does it have a secret message?
01:36:05Eureka! That's the correct answer.
01:36:08Are you up for a helicopter ride?
01:36:10Pick the one with a longer line on top.
01:36:17It's impossible.
01:36:19They're equal in length and the surroundings make you believe otherwise.
01:36:23Time for some magic.
01:36:25You can turn this negative photo into a full-color image with the power of your brain.
01:36:30Stare at the dots at the center of the girl's face for about 30 seconds.
01:36:35Now, quickly turn your eyes to the center X of the white image on the right of the woman's face.
01:36:41Blink several times.
01:36:42Do you see the image of a girl in full color?
01:36:45If not, try staring at the negative image a bit longer.
01:36:48Or sit closer or further from your computer monitor.
01:36:51This illusion works when your rods and cones get overstimulated.
01:36:55The cells viewing the darkest part of the image are least affected by this.
01:36:59When you look away, they react the strongest.
01:37:02And you can see the reverse of the original image.
01:37:05Some optical illusions with a double meaning can tell a lot about your personality.
01:37:09What do you see here?
01:37:18If it's a profile of a man to you, you're pretty realistic and take things for what they are.
01:37:23You trust others and easily rely on them at work and in your personal life.
01:37:27You mix with new people easily.
01:37:29If you notice the word liar, you always look for a hidden subtext in everything.
01:37:35It's not easy for you to trust others.
01:37:36Even when things are going just fine, you're always looking for some surprises coming your way.
01:37:41How many pandas do you see in this image?
01:37:52If it's just two, you're an ambitious person focused on your goals.
01:37:56When you have a plan, nothing can take you off your course.
01:37:59You're direct and always say what you really think.
01:38:01If you saw five pandas or more, you're a really creative person.
01:38:05You always see the little things others might not notice.
01:38:08You get inspiration when you least expect it.
01:38:11Even from basic everyday events.
01:38:13What does this one look like to you?
01:38:25If you see a huge eye on the ground, you're a smart person.
01:38:29If you see a huge eye on the ground, you're a settled person who's pretty content with their life.
01:38:35You have your home, job and favorite places and wouldn't give up this comfort for some unknown path.
01:38:41If you see a landscape with some deep green abyss or a volcano crater, you long for adventures.
01:38:47You can't wait to explore the world and your biggest fear is settling down and not getting the chance to travel.
01:38:54Time for the next illusion.
01:38:58Time for the next illusion.
01:39:03Those who see a face of a young girl here are pretty emotional and sentimental people.
01:39:08You miss someone or something that made you really happy and still can't let go.
01:39:12Try to accept the best is yet to come into your life.
01:39:16Those who see a young man staring at a landscape here are at the crossroads of their lives.
01:39:22You realize you need some changes to be happier, but you don't know what to start with.
01:39:26All roads are open to you, just take that first step.
01:39:30Here's a really tricky one.
01:39:39If it looks like a landscape with a horseman to you, you're more extroverted than introverted.
01:39:44You enjoy your alone times, but mostly need the company of others to share with.
01:39:49You're fun, easygoing and a great team player.
01:39:52If you see a wolf here, you must be more introverted than extroverted.
01:39:57You feel comfortable in your own company and aren't afraid to listen to yourself.
01:40:01You aren't afraid of responsibility and prefer to get all the credits for what you've done.
01:40:06You'll have 5 seconds for each. Let's go!
01:40:09What comes to your mind when you look at this picture?
01:40:11If you noticed one big tiger first, you're pretty happy with your life right now and wake up with a smile.
01:40:17You like your job and have some great friends and a loving family.
01:40:21You don't want to change anything and just enjoy every day.
01:40:25In case you spotted a landscape with a tree and a little tiger first,
01:40:30you've had some problems in the past that you've managed to solve.
01:40:33But now you're cautious about everything and can't let yourself run around carefree.
01:40:37How about this one?
01:40:40If you saw a beautiful golden landscape with some waterfalls,
01:40:45you probably feel a bit bored and want to go for a walk.
01:40:49You can't wait to go to the park and enjoy the view.
01:40:53You can't wait to go to the park and enjoy the view.
01:40:57You can't wait to go to the park and enjoy the view.
01:41:00With some waterfalls, you probably feel a bit bored at the moment.
01:41:04Everything seems to be fine, but you're missing some bright emotions and adventures.
01:41:09Start with the little things, cook a new meal, or buy some clothes you'd never wear before.
01:41:14If you saw a young girl here first, looks like you've been a bit overwhelmed lately.
01:41:19You're trying to be one step ahead of everyone else at work with your hobbies and personal life.
01:41:25It's okay to give yourself a break and just live your life at your own pace sometimes.
01:41:30In case the animals hiding in the landscape have caught your eye,
01:41:34you're pretty happy with everything in your life, but your mind often wanders somewhere else.
01:41:39You run different scenarios in your head of you living a different life that could be even better.
01:41:45Try doing one of the things you've been dreaming about for so long.
01:41:49Moving on, what does this one look like to you?
01:42:00If it's definitely a guitar, you're someone who likes to have a good laugh.
01:42:05Your positive energy spreads onto others easily.
01:42:08That's why you're the heart of any party.
01:42:10You mix with new people well and have like a billion friends.
01:42:14If you're positive it's a landscape with trees reflected in the water,
01:42:18you feel cautious about letting new people too close to you.
01:42:22You might seem reserved at first, but when you're ready to accept those new people into your life,
01:42:27you build strong bonds and will never let them down.
01:42:32How about this one?
01:42:41Those who see a huge yellow-eyed fish here, respect the rules and feel uncomfortable breaking any of them.
01:42:48You prefer to stay out of trouble, so you'd never try anything unconventional.
01:42:53You follow the majority, and if something goes wrong, you're relieved to share the fault with everyone else.
01:43:00If you're one of those people who see a huge shift in this image,
01:43:04you never follow the crowd even if it's going the right way.
01:43:07You're a rebel at heart and you believe rules are meant to be broken.
01:43:11You like to take a chance and often win.
01:43:15Next, is this one all plain to you, or do you see the double meaning?
01:43:23Those who see a bunch of sheep and a wolf here, adapt to changes in life easily.
01:43:28You accept the fact that nothing lasts forever,
01:43:31and always look on the bright side to find the positive in everything.
01:43:36This helps you move on and save your energy for more important things than worries.
01:43:41Those who see a big wolf and a little wolf find it uneasy letting go of people, places, and situations.
01:43:47You don't like change, it confuses you.
01:43:50Even if things aren't perfect, you'd rather leave them the way they are because you're used to them.
01:43:56Sometimes, you just have to let things go their own way.
01:43:59It'll save you a lot of nerves.
01:44:02How about this one?
01:44:04If you see a polar bear here, you're an emotionally stable person.
01:44:08You know you can't plan everything in life, so you accept its surprises and find joy in them.
01:44:14You know you won't make fun memories if you stay on a perfectly smooth road.
01:44:19If you clearly see a hand in the middle of the road,
01:44:23you know it's a good sign that you're on the right track.
01:44:26You know you can't plan everything in life, so you accept its surprises and find joy in them.
01:44:31You know you won't make fun memories if you stay on a perfectly smooth road.
01:44:34If you clearly see a hand in this image, you love to plan everything in your life.
01:44:38You can't stand it when something doesn't go as you expected it to.
01:44:42You always think of all the possible outcomes before taking even the smallest decision,
01:44:47like what to buy for dinner.
01:44:49Try being more spontaneous. You might like it.
01:44:52Now, taking it one level up, can you see the hidden meaning here?
01:45:02If this one looks like a lake and some swans to you,
01:45:06you're a realist who's mostly in a good mood.
01:45:09You don't expect too much from anything or anyone.
01:45:12You're kind and forgiving and can explain and accept any behavior.
01:45:17It helps you protect yourself from disappointments.
01:45:20If you saw a band playing in the mountains,
01:45:23you're more comfortable in the world of your own dreams than in reality.
01:45:27You have your vision of how things should work out,
01:45:29and you feel sad when other people aren't as brave, nice, and caring as you expect them to.
01:45:35Try taking it easier on them.
01:45:38How about this one?
01:45:48If the first thing you saw here was a vase, you don't like to stay in the spotlight.
01:45:53You're a talented and creative person, but you're a bit shy
01:45:56and don't like it when other people are staring at you.
01:46:01That's why you prefer to express yourself through writing, drawing, or similar arts
01:46:06that don't take you directly on stage.
01:46:09If you clearly saw two profiles in this one, you love attention so much,
01:46:13you make a little show out of everything.
01:46:16You can make a loud joke or start singing as you go grocery shopping.
01:46:20You have plenty of energy, and the only way to let it all out
01:46:23is to get on stage and get all the eyes looking at you.
01:46:28This one looks pretty abstract. What do you think about it?
01:46:39Those who are sure it's an old man are really good at saving money.
01:46:44You plan your budget and never buy things you didn't plan to.
01:46:48You know your priorities well,
01:46:50and you don't feel like you're depriving yourself of anything.
01:46:54Saving makes you happy.
01:46:56Those who spotted a horse in this image are trying to stick to a budget,
01:47:00but it doesn't always work out.
01:47:02You could be saving for a new car for a couple of months
01:47:05and then spend it all on the shoes of your dreams.
01:47:08What really matters is that it makes you happy,
01:47:11so don't worry too much about it.
01:47:14Moving on, what can you say about this drawing?
01:47:20If you saw an old man's profile here first,
01:47:23you believe that you can achieve anything in life if you give it your all.
01:47:28You're patient and stubborn in a good way.
01:47:31You set goals and fulfill them one by one on the way to your dream.
01:47:35You prefer to call it plans, not dreams.
01:47:38If you saw a man on a horse, a river, and a figure on the ground,
01:47:42you believe in destiny.
01:47:44You think lots of things are just meant to be.
01:47:46You aren't lazy or anything,
01:47:48but you're sure sometimes success is just a matter of luck.
01:47:52When you have an uneasy choice to make,
01:47:55you prefer to wait it out and let the problem solve itself.
01:47:58Next, please.
01:48:00This one feels so cold.
01:48:02What do you see here?
01:48:03If it looks like a snowy mountain to you,
01:48:06comfort is your priority.
01:48:08Your home means the world to you,
01:48:10and you don't like to move from place to place.
01:48:13You can't focus on anything or get details done in a mess.
01:48:16You're ready to spend money and effort on nice little details.
01:48:20In case you haven't noticed yet,
01:48:22when you're drawing a picture,
01:48:24you don't have to worry too much about the details.
01:48:27You don't have to worry too much about the details.
01:48:30You don't have to worry too much about the details.
01:48:33In case you saw a huge face first,
01:48:35and no, it's not me,
01:48:37you prefer to invest in memories and emotions.
01:48:40You'd love to sleep under the stars
01:48:42as long as it takes you to a new place with people you love.
01:48:46You don't buy too many things
01:48:48because they make moving problematic.
01:48:50All you really need fits in one backpack,
01:48:53and you're happy it's so.
01:48:55What comes to your mind when you look at this image?
01:49:04If it's definitely a zebra to you,
01:49:07you enjoy arranging surprises for your loved ones.
01:49:10You prefer giving to receiving,
01:49:12and you'd go to the end of the world
01:49:14to make your family and friends happy.
01:49:16Their happiness is the best feedback to you.
01:49:19If you see some trees here,
01:49:21looks like you prefer getting gifts to giving them to others.
01:49:24You never show it even if you aren't 100% happy with the gift,
01:49:28and it makes people feel like they know you so well,
01:49:30and they made your day.
01:49:32So, you're doing a good thing your way.
01:49:35How many colors do you see here?
01:49:38If your answer is 3, you're not wrong.
01:49:41Do you think it's 17?
01:49:43Could be.
01:49:45Although the image went viral just recently,
01:49:47the explanation to this mystery
01:49:49is at least a century and a half old.
01:49:52It was discovered by an Austrian math and physics professor, Mach.
01:49:56He noticed you can easily distinguish
01:49:57between similar colors of slightly contrasting shades
01:50:00when they're close to each other.
01:50:03When you set them apart,
01:50:05the difference is barely noticeable.
01:50:07The professor thought it had something to do
01:50:09with the construction of the eyeball
01:50:11and the tissue the retina is made of.
01:50:14The band's effect was later named Mach bands in his honor.
01:50:18Years later, when they had better technology,
01:50:21scientists found the professor was basically right.
01:50:24Your retina is similar to a cinema screen.
01:50:27It captures light that's projected through the pupil.
01:50:30Receptors are all over that screen.
01:50:33Some of them are more active under bright light
01:50:36and send a whole lot of signals to the brain.
01:50:39When two cells send similar signals,
01:50:41you might think it's the same shade.
01:50:44Nerves are trying to solve this problem.
01:50:46They send stronger signals
01:50:48to make the difference more obvious
01:50:50at the border of different shades.
01:50:51Your brain then notices a clear boundary.
01:50:54This explains why you can see the difference
01:50:56between similar shades
01:50:58when they're next to each other.
01:51:00The transition between colors
01:51:02can look like a separate color.
01:51:04Some people can't see the difference
01:51:06between contrasting colors in the picture
01:51:08because of how their brains are built.
01:51:10The color-rendering abilities,
01:51:12brightness, and contrast
01:51:14of your laptop or smartphone screen
01:51:16is another reason.
01:51:18Then, there's also the amount of lighting
01:51:19in your house or office.
01:51:21Plus, you don't have the same optics
01:51:23in your eyes that screen light
01:51:25as anyone else.
01:51:27You also have a unique level
01:51:29of pigment density that affects
01:51:31how your eyes absorb light.
01:51:33You could even have more than regular
01:51:35three-cone cell types
01:51:37and see more colors than others.
01:51:39And some people are more affected
01:51:41by the Mach-Bands phenomenon than others.
01:51:43That's why there's no correct answer
01:51:45to how many colors the image contains.
01:51:47Sometimes, uncertainty
01:51:49can make different people
01:51:51see one thing differently.
01:51:53The dress that was somehow
01:51:55gold and white, blue and black,
01:51:57blue and white, and blue and blue
01:51:59at the same time
01:52:01became a real sensation.
01:52:03The picture was taken on a cell phone
01:52:05in a really weird lighting
01:52:07and overexposed.
01:52:09You can't tell if it was taken
01:52:11inside or outside,
01:52:13and that means you don't know
01:52:15if it's artificial or natural light.
01:52:17It's not clear if the light
01:52:19was reflected.
01:52:21There would have to be a shadow.
01:52:23Parts of the dress itself
01:52:25were in shadow.
01:52:27That shadow was reflecting
01:52:29off the dress itself,
01:52:31complicating things even more.
01:52:33Confused? Me too.
01:52:35When your brain doesn't have
01:52:37enough information,
01:52:39it fills in the gaps
01:52:41by making its own assumptions.
01:52:43It mostly makes them based
01:52:45on what it's previously seen or known.
01:52:47That's why your brain
01:52:49doesn't believe the dress
01:52:51was white and gold.
01:52:53Same with those who thought
01:52:55it was a natural light.
01:52:57Shadows and blue sky
01:52:59overrepresent blue light
01:53:01and make things seem yellowish.
01:53:03Oh, and the retailer of the dress
01:53:05officially confirmed it was
01:53:07black and blue,
01:53:09and that it was sold out
01:53:11in the first 30 minutes of business
01:53:13the day after it had gone viral.
01:53:15A new debate over the color
01:53:17of retro sneakers
01:53:19turns out to be pink and white.
01:53:21You can't be sure with weird
01:53:23camera quality, flash,
01:53:25and funky lighting.
01:53:27When you zoom in on the picture,
01:53:29you can notice the hand
01:53:31is unnaturally bluish.
01:53:33So, depending on how sensitive
01:53:35your eyes are to light
01:53:37and how your brain fills
01:53:39the visual information gaps,
01:53:41the sneakers can look
01:53:43different to you.
01:53:45In reality, they turned out
01:53:47to be pink and white.
01:53:49The picture has been
01:53:51drained of any red.
01:53:53Your brain still makes you see it
01:53:55because of something known
01:53:57as color constancy.
01:53:59Your brain can sometimes
01:54:01ignore information from
01:54:03the color of the light.
01:54:05It knows what strawberries are,
01:54:07and it also knows
01:54:09they're supposed to be red,
01:54:11so it helps you see them as such.
01:54:13When an astronaut posted
01:54:15a picture of some sand dunes,
01:54:17the Internet thought
01:54:19it was a definite pattern.
01:54:21Turns out your brain thought
01:54:23the sun was in the 1 o'clock position.
01:54:25It means it's supposed to be
01:54:27casting shadows from the upper right.
01:54:29In reality, it was casting
01:54:31shadows from the upper left.
01:54:33So, turning it upside down
01:54:35makes things more usual
01:54:37to your brain.
01:54:39How many black spots
01:54:41can you see in this image?
01:54:43There are 12 of them,
01:54:45but most people can't
01:54:47see them all at once.
01:54:49They look directly at it.
01:54:51Your peripheral vision
01:54:53isn't that perfect.
01:54:55Your brain has to fill in the blanks.
01:54:57The white between gray lines
01:54:59makes it think the dots
01:55:01are lighter than they are,
01:55:03so it decides to pretend
01:55:05there's just grayer
01:55:07and the dots aren't there.
01:55:09Although one of them
01:55:11looks twice the size of the other,
01:55:13these guys are of the same size.
01:55:15They're placed in an Ames room,
01:55:17invented by an American
01:55:19who claims to be a regular square
01:55:21but is a trapezoid.
01:55:23The walls and ceilings are tilted,
01:55:25and this makes your eyes
01:55:27see one person tower over another
01:55:29even when they move around.
01:55:31If you have a toy train track at home,
01:55:33you can see how the next illusion
01:55:35works in reality.
01:55:37You take two segments of the same size
01:55:39and put them next to each other.
01:55:41One of them looks obviously larger
01:55:43than the other one.
01:55:45That's because your brain compares
01:55:47the two sides of the pieces
01:55:49from the right side of the track
01:55:51that's on the left
01:55:53to the left side of the track
01:55:55that's on the right.
01:55:57When you compare squares A and B
01:55:59in the checker shadow illusion,
01:56:01you can tell square A is much darker
01:56:03than square B.
01:56:05Your brain expects the cylinder
01:56:07to throw a shadow on the board.
01:56:09It compensates for the alternating colors
01:56:11it expected to find.
01:56:13If you still don't believe
01:56:15the squares are of the same color,
01:56:17you can compare them
01:56:19in the Ebbinghaus illusion.
01:56:21The two circles in the middle
01:56:23of their circle sets
01:56:25are of the same size.
01:56:27Turns out the way you perceive
01:56:29the size of things is all about context.
01:56:31The circle surrounded by larger ones
01:56:33seems smaller,
01:56:35and the one in the company
01:56:37of smaller circles
01:56:39seems to be a giant.
01:56:41There are 12 dots here,
01:56:43all of them are lilac.
01:56:45Your task is to stare at the cross
01:56:47in the middle of the dot ring.
01:56:49The dot takes its place.
01:56:51It also gradually wipes away
01:56:53other lilac dots one by one
01:56:55as it moves around the circle.
01:56:57This is the after-image effect in action.
01:57:00The rods and cones adjust
01:57:02to the constant disappearance
01:57:04of lilac dots.
01:57:06They replace it with a color
01:57:08from the opposite end of the spectrum,
01:57:10which is green.
01:57:12Seeing motion in a still image
01:57:14is one of the most common types
01:57:16of optical illusions.
01:57:17A tile pattern of high-contrast colors.
01:57:19They activate neural signals
01:57:21at the same time.
01:57:23This is how the fake motion effect appears.
01:57:25Café wall illusion
01:57:27was first described
01:57:29in the late 19th century.
01:57:31The tile pattern of a café wall
01:57:33had straight parallel lines
01:57:35and grout in between them.
01:57:37It seemed the black and white lines
01:57:39sloped diagonally.
01:57:41That's because different types
01:57:43of neurons in your brain
01:57:45react to dark and light colors.
01:57:47Where there's contrast,
01:57:49there appears to be asymmetry.
01:57:53That's it for today.
