00:00It's no secret that it's been a bad two weeks for President Biden.
00:05He's been flooded with questions about his mental fitness, his mental acuity.
00:09Can he serve for four more years?
00:12And but there is a little bit of good news, a glimmer of hope for him in your polling.
00:17You found that his job approval rating increased by 2 percent over the past month from 37 percent
00:22to 39 percent.
00:24Is there any indication of why that is?
00:28That's right.
00:29I would caveat that with that.
00:31It's a slight increase, but an increase nonetheless.
00:36And we see that that's coming mostly from voters over the age of 60, from black voters
00:43and minority voters overall, as well as independents.
00:48So those are three groups that are certainly must wins for the Biden campaign.
00:55I think that he should be happy with that.
00:59But that said, a majority still disapprove roughly 18 percent of Democrats even disapprove
01:08of President Biden's job performance.
01:11So, you know, again, it's not necessarily the best news, but it's not the worst news.
01:17And I think some of this could come down to the fact that, you know, folks did watch the
01:24debate between President Biden and former President Trump.
01:29And I think maybe some of them liked what President Biden has done or what he stands
01:35for, but at the same time don't necessarily want to commit to voting for him right now.
01:41So while they may have increased in approval after hearing about some of the things that
01:46he's done, things that he wants to do, they aren't necessarily committing to voting.
01:51A slight uptick is good, but 39 percent isn't that high.
01:55So right now he's sitting here less than four months away from November, from Election Day.
02:01He's the incumbent facing increasingly bad news.
02:06Historically, it's 39 percent right now where he's sitting, running for reelection.
02:11Is that good news for a president?
02:14No, that's not good news.
02:17And you know, we can see that his overall vote share is higher than that.
02:22So it's not as if, you know, one is going to predict the other.
02:26But we do see historically that unpopular, severely unpopular presidents like President
02:31Biden don't tend to win elections.
02:36So you know, I would be, as the Biden campaign, working to do everything I can to get that
02:42approval number up.
02:43That is an indicator of several of how he might expect the vote to turn out on Election
02:50Day.
02:51And, you know, frankly, I don't see how he will necessarily capture enough of the vote
03:00share to win on Election Day without roughly 40 percent approval.
