Under new proposals from the Welsh government, free refills could become a thing of the past as politicians look to clamp down on unhealthy food and drink. The plans could also mean that deals like buy one get one free offers on foods high in fat, salt or sugar could come to an end.

00:06a thing of the past and could soon be banned in Wales.
00:11Under new proposals from the Welsh Government, unhealthy food and drink could face restrictions
00:15on deals and refill offers in an attempt to steer people towards healthier options.
00:21The Welsh Government say that they want to support people in Wales to make healthier
00:24choices and have announced a consultation period on the matter.
00:29The Llywydd Eluned Morgan says that obesity is a major issue in Wales and hopes that moves
00:34towards healthier foods can help people all across the country.
00:39The proposals also say that they want to consult on young people drinking high sugar energy
00:44drinks and a restriction on the sale of those drinks to people under the age of 16.
00:50The Senedd hope to have a final draft of the proposals by the end of the year and for the
00:54law to come into effect by the end of 2025.
