00:00But we do start with a very big controversy already before the Olympics even begun.
00:08You thought the sign-stealing scandal at Michigan and the New England Patriots was big.
00:12Well, how about the Olympics?
00:13How about this?
00:15The Football Ferns of New Zealand allegedly spied on by a drone ahead of their upcoming
00:22game at the Paris Olympics.
00:24A drone operator has been identified as a support staff member of the wider Canadian
00:31women's football team, aka soccer, detained by police.
00:36How about this?
00:37The incident happened at the New Zealand women's training facility on Monday.
00:41New Zealand is going to face Canada in their first match of pool play this Friday.
00:46And the Olympic Committee has already made some decisions, or at least we think they
00:52have, although not official.
00:54Canada has decided that their coach will not coach the game on Friday.
00:58Bev Priestman has removed herself from the match against the team.
01:04Also, Joseph Lombardi, the unaccredited member, also removed alongside assistant coach Jasmine
01:11Mander.
01:12Also, the Canadian soccer staff has got to undergo ethics training.
01:19So how about that?
01:21Ahead of the Olympics, sending in a drone, try and figure out what the opponent's going
01:26to do.
01:27Not the smartest idea in the world.
01:29Needless to say, Canada, I would assume, not going to be rooted for very heavily going
01:34into the Olympics, no doubt about that.
01:36All right, let's get to the very latest in college and this antitrust lawsuit that has
01:40been going on now for a while.
01:42The full settlement agreed of antitrust lawsuits involving the NCAA and college sports' wealthiest
01:47conferences is expected to be filed with a federal court by the end of the week.
01:51An attorney told the defendants of the Associated Press on Tuesday, the NCAA, the ACC, the Big
01:57Ten, the Big 12, the Pac-12, and the Southeastern Conference agreed on May 23rd to a $2.77 billion
02:03settlement with antitrust lawsuits that were challenging limits on college athlete compensation.
02:09We know the world has changed.
02:11College athletes are being paid, and so backtracking trying to get paid for millions of dollars
02:16that essentially was lost.
02:17Now, in terms of soccer going on at the Olympics right now, we already have one major upset
02:23brewing as we speak.
02:25Argentina was favored to beat Morocco.
02:28In fact, Morocco was 3-1 just to win the match, and as we stand right now in match number
02:32one this morning, Morocco leads Argentina by a score of 2-1.
02:38So we'll keep an eye on this for you.
02:39Mike DiCorsi will be with us in just a few minutes and give us the very latest on that.
02:43Meanwhile, what a great start yesterday it was for Paul Skeens.
02:46Over 100 pitches goes into the eighth inning.
02:49Couldn't get his team in.
02:50His offense couldn't give him any kind of lead, couldn't score any kind of runs, ends
02:53up giving up two runs in a very tough loss for him.
02:56You could probably say that this was the best start of his young career and his first appearance
03:02since the All-Star game, but he does take the loss against the St. Louis Cardinals.
03:07And Skeens right now, one of the favorites to win the National League, Cy Young, probably
03:10going to win the Rookie of the Year also.
03:12He talked about the tough loss after the game yesterday.
03:15I felt good.
03:18The complicated thing there is, you know, when I come out with no hitters or whatever
03:22in the sixth or seventh inning, the reason that I'm coming out in the sixth or seventh
03:26inning at 100 pitches is because I had some longer innings.
03:29Those were, you know, relatively quick, low-stress, low-pressure innings, so it kind of allowed
03:35me to keep going, but I felt good.
03:38So what do you attribute the efficiency early to allow you to keep pitching all the way
03:41to the ninth?
03:42Their approach.
03:43They were just trying to, you know, jump me a little bit, and that allowed me to get some
03:48quick outs, you know, in those first, I mean, really throughout the game.
03:53We'll see what happens with Skeens when he gets another start next week and if he climbs
03:56up the top of the charts for the National League, Cy Young award winner.
04:00All right, back to the Olympics we go.
04:02Coco Gauff is going to be the female flag bearer for the United States at the Paris
04:06Olympics Opening Ceremonies.
04:08Joining four-time NBA champion LeBron James, the Team USA announced yesterday.
04:14Also, Gauff is going to be the first U.S. tennis player to carry the flag.
04:19She's also expected to compete in both the singles and doubles on the clay courts at
04:23Roland Garros.
04:24Olympic tennis competition begins on Saturday.
04:27Had some announcements for upcoming Olympics.
04:29The 2030 Winter Olympics is going to be at the French Alps.
04:34The host by the International Olympic Committee made it on Wednesday.
04:38French President Emmanuel Macron helped present the bid to the IOC members, gave assurances
04:44that the national government will be formed after the 2024 Summer Games in Paris, and
04:49a lot of guarantees still going to happen before that.
04:51Meanwhile, the United States highly anticipated getting a Winter Olympics again.
04:56Salt Lake City was formally awarded the 2034 Winter Olympics.
05:00They were also voted in by the IOC in Paris.
05:03Utah, it's the second game hosting the Winter Olympics they hosted back in 2002.
05:08Also, French police have arrested a Russian man who is suspected of planning to destabilize
05:14the Olympics.
05:15He's 40 years old, was detained on Tuesday after police raided his house at the request
05:20of an interior ministry.
05:22The prosecutor's office said in a statement the evidence found that his home raised fears
05:26of his intention to organize events likely to cause destabilization during the Olympic
05:33Games.
05:34Good thing they caught this guy before any issues happen.
05:37By the way, before we go any further, my producer Frank tells me that in extra time, Argentina
05:42has tied up Morocco.
05:45So right now, they are all tied up at two, and again, in the Olympic format, it can be
05:49a draw, which by the way, was also plus money, in case you bet that too.
05:54So right now, 2-2 in extra time, Argentina-Morocco.
05:57All right, over to Major League Baseball.
05:59Mike Trout doesn't look like he's going to be back on the field for at least this week.
06:04Another injury with him last night leaves his rehab game, still has a sore knee after
06:08he had that surgery left after two innings with his rehab assignment with the Angels.
06:13Also, Christian Jelic, he has had back issues throughout his career.
06:17He exited Tuesday's game with back tightness.
06:19He of course is having a great year, all-star as well.
06:22Zach Wheeler was awesome yesterday, seven innings pitch.
06:25The Phillies beat the Twins by a final of 3-0.
06:27Nick Castellanos had a double.
06:30Wheeler is one of the favorites to win the Cy Young, and Philadelphia's got one of the
06:33best records in baseball right now, 64-37.
06:35In fact, that is the best in Major League Baseball.
06:38How about this rookie, by the way, for the San Francisco Giants?
06:40Got to be honest with you, don't know a lot about him until he hit his third home run
06:45and then his fourth home run, and now he's got his fifth home run in a row, five days
06:48in a row.
06:49Tyler Fitzgerald becomes the first Giants player since Barry Bonds to hit a home run
06:53in five consecutive games.
06:56Pretty impressive there on Tuesday night.
06:58Let's get to the NFL.
06:59Training camps are opening, and a lot of the discussion is about holdouts.
07:03Let's get right to them.
07:04CeeDee Lamb of the Dallas Cowboys hasn't got a new contract like some of the other wide
07:07receivers have gotten.
07:09Not expected to report to training camp like the rest of the team today.
07:13He skipped the mandatory mini-camp in June, naturally waiting for a contract extension
07:19that may or may not happen.
07:20Christian Darusaw has signed a four-year extension up to $113 million with the Minnesota Vikings.
07:28He's yet to make a Pro Bowl, but he is considered one of the core players of the Vikings, according
07:32to head coach Kevin O'Connell.
07:35Matthew Stafford has restructured his contract.
07:38He didn't get into the specifics.
07:40It's not an extension, but the head coach of the Rams, Sean McVay, says there was a
07:44lot of great dialogue.
07:46They're making an adjustment to his contract.
07:48What that means still remains to be seen.
07:49They're keeping this thing hidden.
07:50And by the way, a wide receiver retiring in the NFL.
07:54Michael Gallup, who's had a nice career in the NFL, just 28 years old, he signed a one-year
07:58contract worth $3 million with the Raiders, essentially is not going to live up to that
08:02contract.
08:03He's played with the Cowboys a number of years.
08:05He made the announcement officially yesterday that he is retiring.
08:09And so there you have it, the very latest news, notes, and information in the National
08:12Football League and everywhere else.
