Marcos inspects flood-hit Valenzuela, distributes aid

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on July 25, 2024 conducts an ocular inspection in Valenzuela City and visits the command center as heavy rains induced by a typhoon-enhanced southwest monsoon swamps Metro Manila the day before. The President also distributed government assistance to the flood victims at the Malanday National High School, which currently houses 352 families or an estimated 1,629 individuals. He inspected other evacuation centers to assess government support for the victims and Metro Manila's flood response. He ordered a 'relook' and 'reexamination' of the design of flood control projects since 'the amount of water was not as bad as Ondoy, but the effect was greater than Ondoy.' Before this, Marcos presided over a briefing on the impact of the recent disaster.

00:00The reason I did this was to really inspect because I wanted to see what
00:29what the situation was and I was right it's really different listening or
00:35reading the piece of paper than actually seeing it and seeing what people have
00:40to go through. So Valenzuela has this has the usual
00:45problem. So we have to re-look, we have to re-examine some of the designs of our flood control.
01:09For example, this was not that the amount of water was not as bad as Undoy.
01:15But the effect was greater than Undoy.
01:18Mas malaki ang baha. Mas maraming na baha na lugar kito kanong na Undoy.
01:23Mas marami tayo ang flood control ngayon.
01:26Pero climate change. This is what the effects of climate change are.
01:31Now, what we have, what we have seen is that one of the most important parts
01:40that nagka problema was the navigation gate that we went to.
01:47Na nasira. Because pinanggan ang isang parkol.
01:52Pasta hindi sumunod sa instruction, sinira niya.
01:55That is why the water is still 80% under water.
02:00Malabon, the same. Malabon, Valenzuela also.
02:03So we have to really look into that sort of thing.
02:22Like in Laguna siya, what, 81?
02:25In Valenzuela, I think they have 32.
02:29So marami na yung pumping station.
02:31Pero talaga, you have to put it somewhere.
02:34So nagsasak na, yesterday 12 o'clock was high tide.
02:37At 12 o'clock noon nag high tide.
02:39Nagsabay-sabay, maram, manakasangulan, tapos nag high tide.
02:42So at least now I'm very clear about the situation here.
02:46I will be going to inspect all the other areas when I'm, when we can travel.
02:53To see what else is needed in the other parts of the country that suffered flooding.
03:00Now, when I get back to the office, I will be putting together, now that I know what the situation is,
03:09where the areas are that need the most.
03:12We'll be putting together already the release packages for the LGUs.
03:18Here in NCR.
03:20Wala, not only NCR, in Region 3, in Palabarsan, NCR.
03:28Marami nang tumawag sakin, kanina umanggapan.
03:31So we'll put that all together so that we can go to DBM and drop them the releases so para magamit na ng ating mga local officials.
03:47you
